Liam Gallagher's split from Patsy Kensit sparked a Wembley nightmare that still haunts Oasis
Manchester rock legends Oasis are gearing up to headline seven nights at Wembley Stadium, with the first show kicking off this evening. The gigs are part of the Gallagher brothers' highly anticipated UK and Ireland reunion tour and fans are buzzing with excitement.
However, a past Wembley gig still lingers in the band's memory. Their 2000 show at the iconic venue is remembered by Noel Gallagher as 'dreadful' and it has gone down in music history as one of their most cringe worthy moments, something both Noel and Liam have publicly regretted.
As anticipation builds for the 2025 reunion dates, fans will be hoping for a far more triumphant return to Wembley, the Mirror reports.
Tonight's (July 25) gig marks the first time Oasis has played the Wembley Stadium venue since July 2009. The gig came just weeks after the Gallagher brothers split.
It was during the Standing on the Shoulder of Giants tour in 2000 that a now in-famous slurred performance unfolded - today though the Gallagher brothers are older and perhaps a bit wiser than they were 25 years ago.
Their second night at Wembley Stadium in July 2000 was meant to be a major moment, filmed for a live album and TV broadcast. But things quickly went off the rails, becoming a notorious disaster.
Reflecting on the performance years later in 2017, Noel said that Liam should 'hang his head in shame' over what happened that night.
At the time, frontman Liam Gallagher appeared drunk and was slurring lyrics, ranting expletives and sharing personal details on his private life in between songs.
Looking back on the night in a 2017 interview with Radio X, Noel called it a 'low point in Oasis.' He said: "It was a horrible two-and-a-half hours on stage. Liam can hang his head in shame. It was dreadful."
During the performance, Liam made slurred remarks about his breakup with actress and model Patsy Kensit. The couple officially confirmed their divorce in September 2000, ending their three year marriage.
Despite their split, they shared happier times and have a son together, Lennon. Liam and Patsy's break-up was finalised at the London Divorce Court, where Patsy was granted a decree nisi on the grounds of Liams "unreasonable behaviour."
However, in recent years Liam has admitted he has now stopped drinking before he's set to go on stage. Speaking to Radio X, he said: "I've not drank booze on stage since that famous Wembley gig. Remember that one where it all went a bit... "
"Apparently people like that kind of thing but now I steer clear of all of that, do you know what I mean? It's just water man, stuff like that," he concluded.
Despite the younger Gallagher brother's now sober performances, the in-famous uncut footage from 2000 is still available online. The band's Familiar to Millions release ended up externalising the chaotic show - and vocals were edited to salvage the recordings.
Now, 25 years on, despite all this, Oasis fans have never lost love for the indie duo, as thousands gather in London to see Noel and Liam take the stage.

Liam Gallagher said it was never a question that Richard Ashcroft would be joining them on tour after their shared history After embarking upon the biggest stadium tour of the year as special guest to Oasis, and selling out Manchester's Co-op Live, Richard Ashcroft today announces additional UK dates due to overwhelming demand. Richard will perform at arenas in Cardiff, Liverpool, London and Leeds in Spring 2026, with tickets on sale at 9.30am on Friday 1st August. The announcement follows the news of the October 3rd release date of his brand new album Lovin' You - his first all-new album since 2018's Natural Rebel and follows 2021's Acoustic Hymns, Vol. 1. Speaking on Radio 2 earlier this month Richard Ashcroft said: 'The album's due in September, just after I finish the dates with Oasis. That'll be coming out in September, and yeah, happy days, we'll see how it goes. I'm buzzing that I'm still here. I'm still making music, people pay me to make music, people pay me to sing live. It's like I can't complain.' Ashcroft has won huge praise from fans after being picked to join Oasis on their huge sell-out Live 25 tour. Speaking after seeing the band play at Wembley Stadium, David Baddiel said the former Verve frontman gave the Gallaghers a run for their money when it came to entertaining the crowd. Noel has even been spotted watching Ashcroft's sets before walking on stage himself. "Oasis were great tonight. But they were nearly outshone by their support, Richard Ashcroft, in incredible voice: still the Scott Walker of Britpop," Baddiel posted to X. "Don't think Richard has ever done a bad show," replied one of his followers. "Magnificent," agreed another, while a third said: "It's the absolute dream lineup. Chris Martin said Richard Ashcroft had the best voice going around. Richard Ashcroft and Oasis playing in 2025. It's what the world needs some GOOD THINGS! I can't wait to see them in Australia. Magic. How special to be at Wembley. Brilliant." Responding to Baddiel's video of Ashcroft singing The Drug's Don't Work, another X user replied: "This was a real moment in Manchester too. Something about that song still felt fresh / in the room as it were. The Oasis tunes being great, but definitely a stronger nostalgic tinge to them." Anne Nolan gives emotional bucket list update following cancer news
Anne Nolan opened up to Ed Balls on Good Morning Britain about her bucket list after receiving the news she is cancer-free from the second time. Anne Nolan has opened up about her bucket list ambitions following a major cancer update this week, admitting it might be "too late" to achieve them all. Appearing on Good Morning Britain this morning, the 74-year-old revealed she is now cancer-free for the second time and hopes to check off a few remaining milestones. When asked what type of stuff was on her bucket list by presenter Ed Balls, Anne said: "I'd love to go to Krakow and visit the camps. I sent my daughter there as a gift for her wedding. She went and said it was so moving. I've always wanted to go there." "I've always wanted to learn an instrument but I don't know if it's too late for me," she continued. "I'd love to learn an instrument. Piano or acoustic guitar. With acoustic guitar, you go to parties and can take it out to play along for the family." "I'd love to learn a language - French or Italian. I don't know if it's going to happen. I've also never learnt to swim so I would love to learn to swim," she added. The singer, best known as one-sixth of The Nolans alongside her sisters, also shared the emotional moment she found out she was cancer-free, the Mirror reports. Anne was first diagnosed with cancer in 2000 and in 2020, she learnt she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. "It's been very traumatic, when I received the letter a few weeks ago, I picked it up, and it said NHS, and I thought, 'Oh I don't want to know, I'm not sure if I want to know if it's bad news,'" she told Good Morning Britain. "And I put it aside for about ten minutes, and after a while my logical brain kicked in and said, 'You have to find out, you need to know'." "I opened it and it was all good news, and I had a bit of a weep at the beginning. I feel lucky, blessed, relieved, and then emotional thinking about my sisters having gone through the same thing but not surviving." Over the weekend, Anne spoke to The Mirror sharing that she thought about her late sisters, Linda and Bernie, both of whom she lost to cancer. Linda passed away in January this year at the age of 65, while Bernie died in 2013 at 52. She opened up, saying: "Although I was absolutely thrilled, I did think about them." "I didn't feel guilty because it's nothing to do with me but I did feel sad that they weren't as lucky as I was. It's an emotional thing for me to think about them not surviving and then I did survive. But that's just the luck of the draw."

Lewis Capaldi puts Noel Gallagher feud behind him at Oasis gig with famous pal
The Scots singer was spotted smiling with The View frontman Kyle Falconer. Lewis Capaldi and Noel Gallagher's infamous public feud hit headlines back in 2019 but appears to now be put to bed as Lewis attended the Oasis Live 25 tour in London. The Someone You Loved singer and The View frontman Kyle Falconer were spotted smiling for the camera at Wembley stadium as they waited for Oasis to take to stage at the weekend. Kyle and his wife Laura shared the snaps on Instagram as the doting dad took his young daughter Wylde to see her favourite band. Many fans would be surprised to see Lewis at the gig given his feud with the eldest Gallagher brother, Noel. Their spat first began when Noel said during an interview on Radio X in 2019 that he didn't know who Capaldi was. Despite Lewis' debut album ,Divinely Unexpired to a Hellish Extent, having just peaked at number one in the UK and Ireland, making it the fastest selling album of the year, Noel said: "Music is f***ing w*** at the moment". He then insulted the Glasgow-born star as he said: "Who's this Capaldi fella? Who the f***'s that idiot?" However, in true Capaldi fashion, the Scots singer left fans rolling about laughing as he took to his Instagram stories to celebrate Noel's comments in a sarcastic manner. While watching the interview, he responded: "F***ing c'mon! F***ing peaked – slagged off by Noel Gallagher! "Number 1 single – who gives a f***? Number 1 album – who gives a f***? Noel Gallagher has just slagged me off. This is dreams coming true." Capaldi didn't stop there as he wished Gallagher a happy Father's Day while he filmed himself enjoying Oasis' 2002 hit 'Stop Crying Your Heart Out'. Noel was quick to hit back with a tweet that poked fun at Capaldi's track Someone You Loved. He captioned the post: "@LewisCapaldi you big daftie. You might wanna try and find some joy in your tunes, you're destroying the 11yr old is in bits." Lewis further tormented the High Flying Birds frontman with a backstage photo beside his then-estranged brother and former Oasis bandmate, Liam Gallagher. A furious Noel referenced Capaldi's stunt in an interview with Variety and took things a step further as he poked fun at Lewis' appearance. He said: "F****** Chewbacca should enjoy his 15 minutes. The greatest day of his life that I slagged him off or called him an idiot. "It's the greatest day of his f****** life so far. He's just thinking 'wow'. "Well, I know you're Scottish and all that but f****** hell. It is like a third world country but for f***'s sake, man, you must have had a better day than this. Surely." Despite their public jibes, Lewis and Noel have met a few times since, with Noel later branding Lewis as a "good lad" despite his previous comments. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
