Deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin informed that the date was set during a case management via online proceedings today before Court of Appeal deputy registrar Mohd Khairi Harun.
Advertisement 'On the same date, the court will also hear the prosecution's preliminary objection against Peter's application for review,' Wan Shaharuddin told Bernama. Also present at the proceedings were DPP Haresh Prakash Somiah and Peter's counsel, Datuk Rosal Azimin Ahmad. On March 14, Peter filed a notice of motion seeking a review and to set aside the conviction and sentence imposed by the Court of Appeal on March 4 under Section 468 of the Penal Code. Peter has also applied to set aside the warrant of committal dated March 4 issued to Kajang Prison against him, as well as for any consequential orders necessary to ensure justice in the matter.
Advertisement On March 4, the Court of Appeal ordered Peter to serve a three-year prison sentence after dismissing his final appeal against the conviction and sentence imposed by the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court in May 2022. Peter had earlier filed an appeal on April 19, 2023, to overturn the conviction and sentence, but failed the bid when the Kuala Lumpur High Court subsequently upheld the Sessions Court's decision. He has since paid the RM50,000 fine imposed. According to the charge, Peter, in his capacity as managing director of Asli Jati Sdn Bhd, was accused of falsifying a letter from Universiti Malaysia Sabah's Office of the deputy vice-chancellor dated June 9, 2014, by inserting false statements with the intent to deceive. The offence was allegedly committed at the Office of the Private Secretary to the Prime Minister, Perdana Putra Building, Putrajaya, between June 13 and Aug 21, 2014. The offence carries a maximum penalty of seven years' imprisonment and a fine under Section 468 of the Penal Code, upon conviction. * Follow us on Instagram and join our Telegram and/or WhatsApp channel(s) for the latest news you don't want to miss. * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? MACC to quiz Tan Sri over highway project funds

KUALA LUMPUR: A Tan Sri, who is under investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over the alleged misappropriation of sukuk funds linked to a Klang Valley highway project, is expected to be called in for questioning soon. The individual, who was recently discharged from hospital, is also being investigated for overseas asset ownership and high-stakes gambling activities involving millions of ringgit. MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that the Tan Sri, who is believed to be a highway concession holder, had yet to give his statement due to recent medical treatment at a private hospital. 'A statement has not yet been recorded from the Tan Sri, but I have been informed that doctors have recently allowed him to be discharged. My officers will be contacting him soon to arrange an appointment,' Azam told Astro Awani when contacted on Saturday. He added that while the individual is a key witness in the case, MACC has already recorded statements from 45 other witnesses, some of whom have been recalled to assist further in the investigation. 'He is indeed one of the individuals we have yet to question, but we already have testimonies from other witnesses. I cannot confirm whether additional witnesses will be required after his statement,' Azam said. According to sources, MACC had earlier obtained medical confirmation from the treating doctor regarding the Tan Sri's condition before proceeding to plan for his interview. The investigation centres around the suspected misappropriation of sukuk bonds intended for the construction of a highway. On June 3 last year, MACC disclosed that it had seized assets valued about RM143mil from the individual as part of the probe. They included luxury vehicles and properties owned by the Tan Sri, both locally and abroad, including in London and Switzerland. The seized assets comprised 14 personal bank accounts with RM4.5mil, eight company accounts with RM33mil, a luxury condominium and a parcel of land valued at RM24.5mil, nine luxury cars worth RM7.65mil, designer watches valued at around RM25mil, handbags worth RM3mil, jewellery and diamonds estimated at RM6mil and four horses valued at RM400,000. Other seized items included high-end alcoholic beverages worth RM3mil, foreign assets estimated at over RM15mil and gambling-related activities involving about RM20mil. A notice to declare assets has already been issued to the Tan Sri and related parties.

Sukuk misuse case: Tan Sri quizzed by MACC for six hours

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Wednesday (June 11) recorded the statement of an individual with the title "Tan Sri' for six hours in connection with the investigation into the alleged misappropriation of sukuk funds for the construction of a highway in the Klang Valley. MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the process of recording the statement, which began at about 9am, ended at 3pm and will continue tomorrow. He said that due to the Tan Sri's health condition, the process of recording the statement was conducted at his house in the Klang Valley. "So far, MACC has recorded statements from 52 witnesses, including the Tan Sri and his family same process will continue tomorrow,' Azam said when contacted today. Meanwhile, it was reported that the MACC also conducted a raid at the Tan Sri's residence in Melaka, but nothing was seized or confiscated. China, US Agree On Plan To Ease Trade Tensions After Talks In London

WORLD ISTANBUL, June 11 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- China and the United States (US) have agreed on a framework and implementation plan after two days of trade talks in the UK, China's top trade envoy Li Chenggang said late Tuesday, Anadolu Ajansi reported. 'The two sides agreed, in principle, on the framework for implementing the consensus of the two heads of state in their firm call on the 5th of June, as well as the consensus of the meeting in Geneva,' Li told journalists in London. He said both sides would report back to their leaders on the talks and the framework reached in the UK. Li said the Chinese and US teams worked 'very diligently' and had 'very in-depth exchanges' over the past few days, adding that their communication was 'very professional, rational, in-depth and candid.' He expressed hope that the progress in the talks would be 'conducive to increasing trust' between the two countries, to promote stable trade and economic relations, and contribute positively to global economic development. A new round of trade talks between the US and China aiming to reach a deal started on Monday in London. The talks were expected to revolve around China's restrictions on exports of rare earths to the US and Washington's restrictions on some tech exports to China, as well as the dispute over tariffs. The meeting followed US President Donald Trump's phone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping last week, with Trump saying later that the conversation "resulted in a very positive conclusion for both countries." The two sides are aiming to build on a 12th May deal struck in Geneva, when they agreed to a 90-day suspension of most duties and to roll back measures imposed since early April after Trump announced "reciprocal" tariffs on US trading partners.
