How Erin Andrews, Charissa Thompson balance work and real-life relationships with NFL's biggest stars

New York Posta day ago
Fox Sports personalities Erin Andrews and Charissa Thompson lifted the lid on their close bond with the NFL's biggest stars following their offseason vacation with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and his girlfriend, Taylor Swift.
During a fan Q&A on the latest installment of their 'Calm Down' podcast, Andrews and Thompson didn't hold back when asked how they balance being professional and having 'fan energy' while interviewing the league's megastars.
'I don't,' said Andrews, 47, who is Fox's lead sideline reporter and covered Super Bowl 2025 in February. 'I'm a huge fan of all the guys I cover and I get so excited to talk to them.'

Thompson, who hosts the 'Fox NFL Kickoff' show and 'Thursday Night Football' on Prime Video, agreed with Andrews.
'I still get really excited for whoever it is,' Thompson, 43, said. 'I remember [Buccaneers quarterback] Baker Mayfield has this crazy, crazy comeback and I totally turned into a fan and that was probably not professional, but I didn't care, that was f–king awesome. I'm a sports fan and dramatic finishes, and no matter who it is — next week, it could be the opposite in terms of who I'm rooting for.
'I like to watch good football and if something good happens for guys we root for and care about, then yeah, I don't care… There is a time and a place, but then you also still need to have the balance of professional cadence.'

Andrews, who joined Fox in 2012 after a stint with ESPN, went on to explain that building relationships with the players comes with experience.
'Listen, it's taken us a minute to get where we are,' said Andrews, who is married to retired two-time Stanley Cup champion Jarret Stoll. 'You have to build up credibility… with not only with viewers at home, your bosses and also, the players and the coaches. You can't go into things when you first start with any job like, 'Oh my god!' People will look at you and be like,' You're an a–hole.'

'But I think of certain times that I've interviewed Patrick [Mahomes] or I've interviewed Aaron [Rodgers] after big games or anybody really… I love this about Fox so much, I remember when I first got to Fox, somebody said, 'They want to see you having a good time and smiling.' And it's so true.
'… There is nothing wrong with sitting on the [show] desk with Baker after an amazing game or any of these guys and be like, 'Can we just talk about this last play?' It's awesome.'
Front Office Sports reported last month that Andrews and Thompson, whose respective contracts expired after the 2024-25 season, will receive lucrative extensions before the start of the next NFL campaign.

Andrews and Thompson are open about their friendships with athletes, including Rodgers, who signed a one-year deal with the Steelers in June, as well as Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford and his wife, Kelly Stafford.
Last month, Kelce posted Instagram photos from his and Swift's offseason getaway with Andrews, Stoll, Thompson and her longtime boyfriend, Steven Cundari.

Page Six reported in March that Kelce and Swift dined with Andrews during a secret getaway to Montana.
Andrews and Thompson shipped a romance between Kelce and Swift, both 35, before the couple got together in the summer of 2023.
During a previous episode of their 'Calm Down podcast, Andrews and Thompson publicly encouraged Swift to give the three-time Super Bowl winner a chance after he failed to pass along a friendship bracelet at a July 2023 Eras Tour show with his telephone number on it.
Swift attended her first Chiefs game in September 2023 before stepping out publicly with Kelce a month later.

Elon Musk's ‘spicy' upgrade to Grok spits out deepfake clip of Taylor Swift dancing topless: report

Elon Musk's xAI chatbot Grok got a 'spicy' upgrade that reportedly spits out explicit deepfake videos, including a clip of Taylor Swift dancing topless, according to a report. Grok Imagine, the startup's new generative AI tool launched Monday, created a six-second clip of the 'Shake It Off' singer whipping off a silver dress to reveal her breasts and wearing skimpy panties, according to the tech-centric news site The Verge. Even more troubling was that its spicy mode conjured up the NSFW clip without mentioning nudity when prompted to show Swift celebrating at music festivals, the outlet found while testing the software. The video generating tool on Elon Musk's xAI chatbot Grok has a 'spicy' mode that allowed users to create a sexualized deepfake clip featuring singer Taylor Swift. Getty Images for TAS Rights Management The Verge published the video but ran a black bar to cover the superstar's bare chest. The new feature's lack of safeguards against creating celebrity deepfakes and adult materials 'feels like a lawsuit waiting to happen,' The Verge wrote. The Post reached out to Musk, xAI and representatives for Swift for comment. Swift has been a frequent target of AI-generated explicit content across various platforms. In January of last year, explicit AI-generated images of the 'Cruel Summer' singer were widely shared on platforms like Musk-owned X and 4chan, sparking public outrage and urgent content takedowns. The situation escalated with deepfake videos falsely portraying her in political and sexual contexts, including through Grok. The controversy led to tech companies tightening safeguards and prompted Swift to consider legal action. US lawmakers began advancing bipartisan legislation to criminalize non-consensual deepfake pornography. The user guidelines for xAI, which Musk has positioned as a rival to ChatGPT maker OpenAI, prohibit creating pornographic depictions of real people's likenesses. Grok Imagine, which is available for those with Heavy or Premium+ subscriptions to Grok, takes AI-generated images and transforms them into video clips of up to 15 seconds using style options that include Custom, Normal, Fun, and Spicy. 'Usage was growing like wildfire,' Musk wrote on X on Tuesday, though he did not address the content moderation challenges that have emerged alongside this growth. Musk has touted the features of Grok Imagine, stating that more than 34 million images have been created since the feature launched on Monday. xAI, Musk's AI startup, rolled out Grok Imagine, a video generation tool that includes a 'spicy' mode. AFP via Getty Images The timing of the Swift controversy could potentially be problematic for xAI, given the company's previous entanglements with deepfake incidents targeting Swift. Deepfakes are synthetic media — typically videos, images or audio — which are created using artificial intelligence in order to realistically mimic a person's likeness or voice.

Jussie Smollett Returns to Fox as Part of ‘Special Forces' Cast

More than six years after leaving Fox's Empire amid an uproar over an allegedly staged attack, Jussie Smollett is returning to the network. Smollett will be part of the network's competition show Special Forces: World's Toughest Test in the fall. The actor and singer is one of 18 celebrities taking on a series of challenges that mirror those of military special forces training. The cast also features a few familial relationships: Eric and Jessie James Decker are married, as are Andrew East and Shawn Johnson East. Teresa and Gia Giudice are mother and daughter. Smollett starred on Fox's music-industry drama Empire for five seasons from 2015-19. In January 2019, he claimed he had been attacked in Chicago, where Empire filmed, by two Black men who shouted homophobic slurs. The two men then said Smollett paid them to stage the attack, and Smollett was charged with filing a false police report; the charges were later dropped after Smollett paid a fine and did community service. His character was written out of Empire's final season, though he remained under contract with the series. In 2020, however, he was re-indicted by a special prosecutor and convicted of five counts of felony disorderly conduct related to filing false reports in 2021. He served six days in jail before being released; the Illinois Supreme Court overturned his conviction in 2024, ruling that the second set of charges violated Smollett's due process rights. Smollett has maintained throughout the case that he did not stage the crime. He recently participated in a Netflix documentary titled The Truth About Jussie Smollett? that's set to premiere Aug. 22 on the streamer. Special Forces will premiere Sept. 25 on Fox.
