Union Ministers Hold Strategy Meet Ahead Of Parliament Monsoon Session
Several Union ministers, including Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, J P Nadda and Kiren Rijiju, held a strategy session at the defence minister's residence here on Thursday ahead of Parliament's Monsoon Session beginning from July 21.
With the customary all-party meeting being held on Sunday, the Group of Ministers are believed to have strategised over the government's stand over a host of matters amid the opposition raising heat on issues, including the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Bihar, the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor.
There was no official comment on the agenda of the meeting, but sources said it was related to the session.
Besides Defence Minister Singh, Home Minister Shah, Health Minister Nadda and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rijiju, their ministerial colleagues Piyush Goyal and G Kishan Reddy were among those who were part of the strategy session.
The opposition has been pushing for debate in Parliament on issues like SIR and Operation Sindoor.
Leading opposition parties such as the Congress, Samajwadi Party and Trinamool Congress have alleged that SIR, which is likely to be rolled out in other states, is aimed at benefiting the BJP. They have also seized on US President Donald Trump's claim of mediating the "ceasefire" between India and Pakistan to attack the Modi government.
The government has rejected Trump's claim, but the opposition has been insisting on a debate and has even demanded a special session of Parliament over the issue. The government has termed Operation Sindoor a big success, which inflicted massive damage on terror sites and military facilities in Pakistan.
The BJP and its Bihar allies have backed the SIR in the poll-bound state, asserting that it is aimed at ensuring that only eligible people are allowed to vote in the assembly polls.
Mr Singh usually chairs the all-party meeting. The Parliament session is scheduled to end on August 21.
Mr Singh later held a separate meeting with top defence brass amid indications that he may make a statement on Operation Sindoor in Parliament.

His statements assume significance as several Western nations have questioned India's stand on the Russia-Ukraine war and have threatened to impose sanctions as India continues to import oil from Russia. Touching on India's transformation over the past decade, the Vice President hailed achievements in rural development, infrastructure, and digital connectivity. 'People of my generation never believed there would be a toilet in every house, a gas connection, internet access, or world-class trains,' he said, asserting that 'Viksit Bharat' is not a dream but an ongoing reality. In a sharp critique of the rising commercialisation of education, he questioned the spectacle of coaching centre advertisements. 'This is not Bharat. We cannot have commodification. NCP's Tatkare says discussions held with BJP over possible merger
Amid speculation over a possible merger of the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), NCP's Maharashtra unit chief Sunil Tatkare on Friday clarified that there are no such discussions underway. However, he added that if any such move is considered in the future, it will be taken only after consulting the BJP's central leadership. Tatkare was speaking at a party workers' meeting during his organisational tour of Marathwada. 'The BJP leadership has accepted us with due thought. If any decision on merger ever has to be taken, BJP's top leadership will certainly be taken into confidence,' he said. Tatkare also remarked that the party's current experience within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has been 'more harmonious' compared to earlier alliances. Reflecting on the NCP's past, he noted that even in 1999, despite contesting against the Congress, the party chose not to align with the BJP, then led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee. 'Today, however, we have passed a resolution to remain with the NDA,' he said. On preparations for upcoming local body elections, Tatkare said the party is receiving encouraging responses from its ongoing tours in North Maharashtra and Marathwada. Referring to possible seat-sharing scenarios, he said, 'In some places, we may consider contesting outside the Mahayuti alliance. A final call will be taken after district-wise reviews in coordination committee meetings.' Responding to questions on the Public Security Act—recently backed by the NCP in the legislature—despite opposition from party founder Sharad Pawar, Tatkare said support for the Act does not indicate a rejection of Pawar's ideology. Cong concerned about Rahul's employment: BJP
Patna: BJP leader and road construction minister Nitin Nabin called the job fair organised by Congress in Patna on Saturday just an election gimmick. The minister alleged that Congress was playing a political fraud with dreams and hopes of youth. "Congress is not concerned about the employment of the youth of Bihar, but about the employment of its leader Rahul Gandhi. The people of Bihar understand this election trick very well," he said. "The reality is that in the job fair, Congress leaders were asking the aspirants about their assembly constituencies. Congress should clarify whether the candidates' qualification was being considered for giving jobs or it was vote-bank politics? Was it a job fair or an election survey form?" the BJP MLA from Bankipore asked. He said the BJP-ruled states have played a big role in real employment generation in the past years. "In Haryana, only 86,067 govt jobs were given during the Congress rule (2005-14), while this number increased to 1.43 lakh during the BJP govt (2014-24), and about 1.60 crore formal employment opportunities were created," Nitin said. "The NDA govt, which does the politics of development, is with the youth, and we are not just providing employment, but shaping their future," he added.
