New Delhi: Bengali actress Sumi Har Choudhry was recently spotted sitting roadside. Dressed in shorts and a black full-sleeved shirt, she sat by the roadside near Amila Bazar in West Bengal's Purba Bardhaman district on Monday afternoon. However, the locals were quick to identify her as actress Sumi Har Choudhury. The police later confirmed her identity.
In a viral video, she is seen speaking in broken English and Bengali.
News18 quoted the Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Bardhaman Sadar South, Abhishek Mandal, Choudhury as saying, 'She has been sent to a shelter home and efforts are underway to trace her family. We have informed the Behala police station in Kolkata." Authorities are now trying to understand how the actress, once active in the Bengali entertainment industry, ended up in such a condition.
'She seemed mentally disturbed, but kept repeating that she acted in serials. At first, we didn't believe her. Then we found her photos online,' the Indian Express quoted a local as saying.
Who Is Sumi Har Choudhry?
Sumi has worked predominantly in Bengali film and TV industry for more than a decade. Her most popular work is Srijit Mukherji's crime-thriller Dwitiyo Purush, starring Anirban Bhattacharya, Raima Sen and Parambrata Chatterjee. She was also a part of Khashi Katha: A Goat Saga, a bilingual film which featured Naseeruddin Shah and Anindita Bose in the lead.
Sumi also featured in TV shows like Rupsagore Moner Manush and Tumi Ashe Pashe Thakle.
As per her Instagram bio, Sumi is studied in Kolkata, lives in Bolpur Shantiniketan Jadavpur. She is a trained Bharatnatyam dancer. She has also mentioned about Theatre, Jatra, Television, Movies, food start up, traveling, books - things she likes in her bio.

Agency: PTI Last Updated: Gopeshwar, Jul 20 (PTI) An 18-year-old Sikh devotee from Punjab died on Sunday after slipping into a deep ditch on a footpath near Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, police said. The man, identified as Gurpreet Singh of Kale village in Amritsar district, was visiting Hemkund Sahib with a 90-member group, they said. Police said Singh left the main footpath leading to the Gurudwara and took an old, damaged trail that has been closed due to safety concerns. He slipped and fell into a 100-metre-deep ditch. Upon receiving information, police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel and other agencies reached the spot, carried out a rescue operation and retrieved the body, they added. Patna: The team comprising Samanway and Piyush on Sunday won the Open Category General Quiz, on the last day of the two-day Patna Mind Fest (PMF) 2025. Both belong to Kolkata. While the team of Calvin, Baibaswata and Anand stood second, Jayakanthan, Sangeeth and Zaman, comprising another team, won the third position. In the college category, the IGIMS team of Soham, Aman and Utpal clinched the top spot. The team of Prateek and Swetank and that of Kumar Vivek and Shashank Kumar stood second and third, respectively. In the school category, the team comprising Ishan Bhushan, Utkarsh Singh and Aayush Mishra won the first position. They were followed by the teams of Nand Kishore, Samantak, Sanskar and Yuvraj, Adhrit and Prateek in second and third positions, respectively. The Cryptic Crossword, the first event of day two contested by individual participants, saw Saksham Singh topping the rank in the school category. He was followed by Shubhi Srivastava and Nanya Dev Singh on second and third positions, respectively. While Adya Singh topped the college category, Shashwat Sanjeev and Vandita Vidisha were at second and third positions, respectively.
