‘Didn't know you could read and write' – Online row between Conor McGregor and Liam Cunningham over Gaza-bound aid boat ‘Madleen'
Israeli naval forces boarded and seized the vessel carrying 12 people, including Swedish activist Greta Thunberg and French MEP Rima Hassan, that had tried to break a naval blockade of the war-torn Gaza Strip earlier today. The British-flagged yacht operated by the pro-Palestinian Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) aimed to deliver a symbolic amount of aid, including antibiotics and baby formula, to Gaza and raise awareness of the crisis. However, the vessel was boarded during the night before it could reach shore, the FFC said on Telegram, while the Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed the boat was under Israeli control. Mr Cunningham, best known for his role as Davos Seaworth in HBO's series Game of Thrones, has shared several tweets in the wake of Israel seizing the aid boat. The Dublin actor, who has been vocal about his support for Palestine, helped launch the vessel carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza in Catania, Italy, on Sunday, June 1. "The Freedom flotilla was attacked during the night,' he wrote on his X account today. 'The ship was rammed, boarded, and the 12 volunteers kidnapped.' He described it as 'more reprehensible behaviour from the genocidal regime in Tel Aviv'. We need your consent to load this Social Media content. "You forgot your goggles? You get seasick off the gargle? Bottler,' McGregor added, to which Cunningham responded: "Didn't know you could read and write, Conor. Thought you used your hands to tap out.' The MMA fighter then uploaded a picture depicting Greta Thunberg, which was originally posted by the Israeli Foreign Ministry. "Two bags full packed and ready to skid! Ah Liamo you little bottler!' he added. His post was accompanied by a picture of Liam Cunningham during the Madleen launch in Sicily with activists Thiago Ávila and Yasemin Acar, who are both onboard the vessel. He later added: "For the record, Liam Cunningham is a virtue signaling bottler. He was right there and did not go. That is absolutely embarrassing.' Speaking last week at the launch of a new People Before Profit pamphlet 'No To War – Defend Irish Neutrality', published in opposition to Government plans to change the triple lock system for overseas deployments, Cunningham said that it was never planned that he would be on the Madleen boat as it is a small vessel, RTÉ reported. He also said the Irish Government is 'siding with warmongers' while the actor endorsed an opposition campaign to 'defend Irish neutrality'. Under the current system, Ireland cannot deploy more than 12 Defence Forces peacekeepers overseas without a mission being approved by the UN, the Government and the Dáil. As part of the draft legislation being advanced by the Government, it is proposed to remove the requirement for formal UN approval and replace it with a stipulation that the deployments are in accordance with the UN Charter. The Government argues this will prevent the five permanent members of the Security Council – Russia, China, the UK, the US and France – from exercising their veto against Irish peacekeeping missions. However, Mr Cunningham accused the Government of 'lying' and 'obfuscation' over the mechanics of the existing triple lock, adding that the current system allows the UN General Assembly to approve such a mission in the absence of a green light from the Security Council.

Irish Love Islander Megan Forte Clarke 'easily charmed' as hopeful set for twist
Love Island's Irish beauty Megan Forte Clarke has said she is "easily charmed" as she makes her debut in the villa tonight. The reality TV show is back tonight, with 12 brand new singletons all looking to find 'The One'. The girls - Shakira, Meg, Alima, Sophie, Megan and Helena - enter the stunning Mallorcan Villa first and get to know one another. But it's dating that's on their mind and they quickly start talking about being excited to meet the boys and start shouting for boys to enter the Villa. They don't have to wait long as host Maya Jama arrives and takes them to the firepit for a chat. Getting straight to the point, Maya asks them what each of their types are with Shakira saying: "Tall, muscly, nice smile but for me it's all about personality. Witty, funny, charming." Helena laughs as she adds: "Personality always, my bar is low, I'm not fussy!" Meg teases that she wants: "Tanned skin, taller and naughty eyes." Sophie says: "I want someone that's a gentleman, not a man child." Megan says: "I'm easily charmed, which is the problem…" Alima says she's looking for: "A Prince Charming Disney Prince… with no facial hair." Maya then has a big announcement, which shocks the girls as she explains: "This year things are slightly different. You've told me what your type on paper is, but does that match your ideal man in reality? Come and join me by the pool." As the girls line up, Maya explains: "Girls, in front of you there are six love hearts and each boy has given me their dating profile which is written on each of these hearts - shall we have a look at what these boys have to offer?" On the boards the girls see descriptions for this year's boys: Ben, Dejon, Harry, Conor, Blu and Tommy. The girls have to decide who they'd like to couple up with based on these key stats with the boys' names, ages, jobs and a headline, such as "I like to play hard and work harder! I love to play, so I work very hard…", to help them decide who to pick. After discussing the profiles and trying to work out who might be right for them, Maya counts to three and they must run to a heart, with only one girl allowed to stand by each heart. With only seconds to make a decision, will they all get the boy they wanted? Or will the girls be left eager to swap. Now it's over to the boys. Decisions made, they enter the villa one-by-one to meet their match…will it be love at first write or were the girls too quick to judge their type? After the newly coupled-up Islanders spend a bit of time getting to know one another, later that evening, Maya makes a shock return to the villa with some huge news. Gathering everyone at the firepit, Maya reveals the day isn't over yet and someone new is already on their way. Suddenly, the series' first bombshell Toni makes a dramatic entrance into the villa. The Islanders are quick to realise she's come all the way from the US as Toni teasingly says: "Good evening UK! Surprise!" The Islanders can't believe there's an American bombshell and there's clearly some excitement amongst the boys… and some concerns for the girls. Maya then drops some more big news: not only has Toni just arrived all the way from the States, but she is also going to immediately steal one of the boys. Hearing the power is in her hands, Toni coyly replies: "Interesting…" And that's not all, Maya has more news for one Islander. The clock is ticking and their time in the villa could be over quicker than you can say señorita…

Conor McGregor involved in spat with Games of Thrones actor over Gaza aid boat
Conor McGregor has become involved in a social media spat with Game of Thrones star Liam Cunningham over the seizure of an aid vessel bound for Gaza. The yacht, which includes activist Greta Thunberg among its 12-member crew, was intercepted by Israeli authorities in the early hours of Monday morning and is now en route to a port in Israel, officials have said. The vessel, named Madleen, is operated by the pro-Palestinian Freedom Flotilla Coalition and was aiming to deliver aid to Gaza and raise awareness of the worsening humanitarian crisis in the region. Madleen departed from Sicily a week ago, with Cunningham among those present at its launch. The Dublin actor has been a vocal critic of the Irish Government's response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Arguing that the Irish Navy should protect the aid-carrying vessel, Cunningham said last week that these charity missions were doing the work governments had failed to do. Cunningham said: "They are doing the job that we are supposed to be doing, the people who are supposed to respect international law." "There should be a flotilla of Irish naval vessels standing up for our international law and treating international law with the respect it deserves, not this wonderful, disparate group of people who have got together to put their lives in danger because they're not being backed up. "There should be a European force circling that boat to ensure that they get there, because that is their legal responsibility." When news broke in the early hours of Monday morning that the flotilla had been intercepted by Israeli authorities, the 64-year-old voiced his anger on social media. Cunningham wrote: "The Freedom flotilla was attacked during the night. The ship was rammed, boarded and the 12 volunteers kidnapped. This is more reprehensible behaviour from the genocidal regime in Tel Aviv." In a reply to the actor's post, UFC fighter McGregor appeared to mock Cunningham for not making the journey himself. McGregor wrote: "I thought you were on this boat Liamo, what happened? You forgot your goggles? You get sea sick off the gargle? Bottler." Cunningham immediately shot back at McGregor, though, writing: "Didn't know you could read and write Conor. Thought you used your hands to tap out." The Freedom Flotilla Coalition said the activists on board Madleen were 'kidnapped by Israeli forces' while trying to deliver desperately needed aid to the famished territory. 'The ship was unlawfully boarded, its unarmed civilian crew abducted, and its life-saving cargo — including baby formula, food and medical supplies —confiscated,' it said in a statement.
