Gannett taps former People editor-in-chief as executive editor of entertainment
USA TODAY parent company Gannett has tapped former People editor-in-chief Wendy Naugle as its new executive editor of entertainment.
Naugle will oversee the entertainment strategy at USA TODAY and Gannett's 200-plus local publications with a focus on driving audience and revenue growth. She will report to Monica Richardson, senior vice president of USA TODAY, starting July 28.
'Wendy's exceptional editorial vision and deep industry knowledge will be instrumental in shaping the future of our entertainment coverage," Richardson said in a Gannett news release. 'We are confident that her experience will help connect with our audiences in meaningful and innovative ways across all platforms.'
Naugle's introduction to the company comes amid a shift at Gannett toward deep engagement with readers on a local level across its national network of community-based newsrooms and a strategic focus at the national level on competitive subject areas like entertainment and sports, in addition to national breaking news, wellness and consumer-focused coverage.
'We're giving our consumers more reasons to come to us, more reasons to stay, more reasons to engage with our partners and more reasons to subscribe,' President of Gannett Media Kristin Roberts said in a May earnings call.
Naugle's role in that strategy includes transforming the USA TODAY Network into the country's leading entertainment brand, going head-to-head with top entertainment sites.
Naugle's arrival is the latest change in Gannett's leadership team. The company in June named Joe Miranda, former executive vice president, chief digital and technology officer of Herbalife, as chief technology and data officer. Trisha Gosser was named chief financial officer in March after serving as the deputy CFO, succeeding Douglas Horne.
A graduate from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, Naugle joined Dotdash Meredith's People in 2019 as deputy editor before moving into the role of editor-in-chief in 2022. She helped transform the brand into a top 10 site in the U.S., reinvigorated franchises like Sexiest Man Alive, and led issues on climate change, LGBTQ+ Pride, Black History Month and People of the Year, according to Gannett. She left the company in January to complete a novel.
Previously, she worked as executive editor at Condé Nast's Glamour for nearly 20 years, where she managed its transition into digital-first content, as well as its annual Women of the Year awards and summit. She also oversaw the launch of Glamour's first podcast series and an award-winning campaign against domestic violence.
Her stories on subjects like breast implants, health insurance and reproductive rights won two National Magazine Awards for Personal Service and a National Press Club Consumer Journalism Award, among other honors, according to Dotdash Meredith. Naugle also served on the board of the NYU Center for Publishing.
Naugle said she aims to use entertainment news to connect communities across the country.
'It's an incredible opportunity in entertainment right now. Of course, we all think of Hollywood and Los Angeles, but entertainment is so much more than that,' she said. 'We see exciting things happening in music in Nashville, and there's more filming than ever in Atlanta. So, entertainment is changing, and I think Gannett and the USA TODAY Network are really uniquely suited to capitalize on all of those opportunities in the entertainment landscape.'

Where Ana de Armas and Tom Cruise's Relationship Stands Amid Dating Rumors
THE RUNDOWN Actress Ana de Armas is officially single following a relationship with Manuel Anido Cuesta, the stepson of Cuba's president, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez. They were first spotted sharing a kiss in November 2024. By May 2025, it was rumored they had split, but the breakup was confirmed by a source speaking to People this week. Amid her distance from Cuesta, rumors have followed de Armas as she preps for an upcoming film with actor Tom Cruise. The pair has been seen spending time together, leading to whispers of a romantic relationship. But the source indicated she and Cruise are simply working on the Doug Liman-directed thriller, Deeper. De Armas was also supposedly receiving advice from Cruise as she trained for her movie Ballerina, set in the John Wick universe. The movie is filled with stunts, which Cruise is famous for doing in his own films. 'Tom is crazy hardworking and she's very excited to work with him. She calls it an opportunity of a lifetime,' said the insider. 'Tom is an incredible mentor to Ana. She has nothing but amazing things to say about him.' This week, Cruise and de Armas were photographed together again, enjoying some sunshine on a yacht near the island of Menorca, just off the coast of Spain. The source emphasized that their connection is 'not romantic.' In February, a source told People something similar after they were seen having dinner together with their agents, during which they were supposedly 'discussing potential collaborations down the line' and 'appeared to have no romantic connection, just friends.' They have since been seen in London, after attending David Beckham's 50th birthday party, and then again in early May taking a walk through the park on de Armas's 37th birthday. In June, the actress told Variety that Cruise's support for Ballerina was 'unbelievable' and 'amazing.' 'It is very special that someone like him is supporting,' she shared. 'It is really special in general to have other actors and people supporting each other. We can do well all together.'

Why Pete Davidson and Elsie Hewitt Feel ‘So Excited' and Ready to Start a Family
THE RUNDOWN Pete Davidson and Elsie Hewitt announced they were expecting their first child this week. The couple is reportedly 'so excited' to become parents, per a source speaking with People. 'They're both very nurturing people and are very, very happy together and to be starting a family,' the insider said. 'They've been sharing privately with loved ones, and it's a really sweet time after everything Pete has overcome. He's so excited. He's always wanted to be a dad.' A second source told the publication that Davidson has been 'more intentional' about his relationships in general and who he interacts with since becoming romantically involved with Hewitt. 'Pete and Elsie are happy and cannot wait to welcome their baby,' the second source continued. 'He's grown up a lot, and he's so excited about this next chapter as a dad. He's more intentional about who he lets into his life now, and with Elsie, it was never about headlines or the spotlight, and that's exactly what he needs.' The couple has been romantically linked since March, when they were seen enjoying a vacation in Palm Beach, Florida. By May, they had reportedly moved in together in New York City. Davidson told comedian Kevin Hart in 2022 that he had been thinking about starting a family on Hart's talk show, Hart to Heart. 'My favorite thing ever, which I'm yet to achieve, is I wanna have a kid,' Davidson said. 'It's super corny, but it would be so fun to dress up a little dude. I'm so excited for that chapter so that's kind of what I'm just preparing for now, is trying to be like good as a dude and develop and get better so when that happens it's just easier.'

July's New Moon Pushes Us to New Horizons and 2 Zodiac Signs Are in for a Big Surprise
Here's what July's new moon in Leo means for your zodiac sign In comparison to the bright fireworks that lit up the night sky at the start of the month, the upcoming lunation will result in the opposite: darkness. Another new moon arrives on Thursday, July 24, and reaches its peak at 11:06 p.m. local time, ascending into the sky exactly two weeks after its full moon counterpart, nicknamed the Buck Moon, rose on July 10. Despite their blacked-out appearance, the new moon radiates astrological significance in the cosmos that will be felt within each of us, regardless of your zodiac sign. In fact, the lunation's energy will make itself known in the days surrounding its peak. "A new moon is most potent in the seven to ten days after it appears and can affect patterns that will echo for six months to a year," celebrity astrologer Kyle Thomas tells PEOPLE exclusively. This month, July's new moon arrives in Leo (2 degrees); so the energy of this elemental Fire sign will be prominent within each of our lives. According to Thomas, the themes associated with this zodiac sign include romance, creativity, recreation and children. "It pushes us to express ourselves and shine our light out into the world," he shares. The new moon will also be in an exact opposition with Pluto, which Thomas says could bring about "intensity, power struggles, profound and potentially painful experiences." However, the new moon is exactly trine Saturn, which he says could "soften the blow." This Saturn alignment, per Thomas, can aid us in "building long-term success personally or professionally or having honor and responsibility brought to us now." Plus, it's also trine Neptune, which he says can cast a "spiritual, romantic and creative air into the heavens for us to revel in." Lastly, the new moon is sextile Uranus. "This promises exhilarating and sudden surprises that may encourage us to step outside of the box and pursue new horizons," he shares. "Even if challenges or a sudden crisis arrive, we can work with the universe to find stable, happy solutions." Read on for what July's new moon means for your zodiac sign, per Kyle Thomas' PEOPLE exclusive readings! Aries (March 20-April 19) Feel your heart racing, Aries?
