
Jersey parish sets up Liberation Day house display competition
Residents in one Jersey parish are being invited to decorate their homes in patriotic colours to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day.The competition, which runs from 1 April to 10 May, aims to see the properties in St John "bursting with colour and community pride", Constable Andy Jehan said.Organisers said the best dressed property would win a £50 voucher for St John's Inn.Jehan said: "This competition is a fantastic way to bring people together and celebrate our island's history."
Residents can submit a photo of their display via email to lib80@stjohn.je, organisers said.They said judging would take place soon after Liberation Day on 9 May.

Jersey States says road safer without central white line

Jersey sporting experiences sought to improve plans
People have been encouraged to share key issues they have experienced in the sports sector for a States of Jersey scrutiny part of the hearing into the provision of sports in the island, Minister for Infrastructure Constable Andy Jehan will be questioned about the performance pathways available to top follows plans to redevelop Fort Regent, a leisure centre in St Helier, and the transfer of sports groups and organisations to other facilities across the island, the States chairman Deputy Montfort Tadier said "concerns had been raised" about long-term plans for the venue. "While the government has outlined plans to transfer many of these [clubs] to other facilities across the island, concerns have been raised by some about the suitability of the chosen venues and the long-term plans."Tadier said it was important sports clubs had appropriate infrastructure, support and funding regardless of whether they were at "grassroots level or supporting top athletes".A pop-up event is set to take place in St Helier on Friday so people can share their views. The scrutiny hearing will take place on 12 June 2025.

Jersey Freemasons to host open day to mark Liberation 80
The Jersey Freemasons are hosting host an open day at the Masonic Temple in St Helier to mark the 80th anniversary of Jersey's Liberation are remembering members who were forced to hide their community during the German Occupation of the island during World War group said the event would allow the public a chance to "explore the history and heritage of freemasonry in Jersey" and their involvement during the liberation in Dallas-Chapman, head of the Jersey Freemasons, said this year marked a "significant milestone for the island", and said he was "excited to celebrate with the community". Mr Dallas-Chapman was formally recognised as the new head of freemasonry in Jersey in December 2024. The group said the open day, which starts at 10:30 BST would include guided tours of the temple, presentations and also said there would also be a presentation on the life of Harold Le Druillenec, a concentration camp survivor and former head teacher of St John's School.
