UNICEF: Killing of 7 Children in Gaza While Waiting for Water is Terrible
According to UN reports, the incident occurred on Sunday, July 13, 2025. Also, it resulted in the deaths of four other individuals, making it one of the deadliest attacks on civilians in recent weeks.
In an official statement, Russell described the attack as 'a painful reminder that there is no safe place for children in Gaza.' He called on the Israeli government to urgently review its rules of engagement to ensure the protection of civilians under international humanitarian law.
She added that the tragedy came just days after a similar incident in which children and women were killed while waiting for food aid.
Russell highlighted that the attack underscores the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, particularly amid a sharp rise in cases of acute child malnutrition. More than 5,800 children were diagnosed in June alone, over 1,000 of whom are in urgent need of therapeutic care.
Gaza residents are also facing a severe water crisis after the main desalination plant went offline, forcing families to rely on unsecured water distribution points, often in areas vulnerable to attacks.
The UNICEF chief urged the Israeli occupation and the international community to launch a comprehensive and independent investigation into the attack, immediately revise rules of engagement that have led to civilian deaths, and fully comply with international humanitarian law, especially regarding the protection of children in conflict zones.
UN data indicates that nearly 800 people, most of them women and children, have been killed since the end of May while trying to access food aid in Gaza, amid worsening security conditions that have severely hampered the delivery of humanitarian supplies.
In concluding her statement, Russell warned that continued violations without accountability 'will lead to catastrophic consequences for children in Gaza,' calling for 'immediate and effective action by all relevant parties.'

Israeli Army Issues New Evacuation Orders in Southwest of Deir Al-Balah for First Time
DayofPal– The Israeli military issued new evacuation orders on Sunday morning targeting southwestern areas of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, escalating the ongoing displacement crisis in the besieged Palestinian enclave. The evacuation orders affect residential blocks numbered 130, 132 through 134, 136 through 139, and block 2351. The directive includes all civilians residing in homes or makeshift tents within these areas. Residents were instructed to evacuate immediately and head toward the coastal 'Al-Mawasi' zone in western Khan Younis, a designated 'humanitarian area' under repeated strain from overcrowding and limited resources. This latest wave of displacement comes amid growing concern from international organizations over the scale and impact of forced evacuations across Gaza. A recent report by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) revealed that as of May 28, approximately 81% of Gaza's total land area has been designated as either closed military zones or under active evacuation orders. Since March 18 alone, the Israeli military has issued at least 31 evacuation orders, affecting nearly 229.4 square kilometers of land, territories still under enforced displacement mandates. Meanwhile, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) reports that at least 1.9 million Palestinians, roughly 90% of Gaza's population, have been displaced since the war began. Many families have been uprooted multiple times, with some displaced ten times or more over the course of the conflict. The war, which began on October 7, 2023, continues with full U.S. backing, leaving Gaza in a state of unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe. More than 195,000 Palestinians have been killed or injured, the vast majority of them women and children. The war has devastated the Strip's infrastructure, collapsed its health system, and left millions facing hunger and homelessness. Humanitarian agencies warn that without a ceasefire and a meaningful political solution, the situation will only deteriorate further. Shortlink for this post:

Daily Death Toll of Gaza's Children Equals a School Class
DaysofPal – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has issued a stark and devastating assessment of the scale of Israel's ongoing war on Gaza: an average of one classroom full of children is killed every single day. 'Israel kills a classroom full of children every day in Gaza while they are sleeping, seeking shelter in schools, or waiting in line for water,' the agency said in a statement this week. According to UNRWA, that means between 35 and 45 children are being killed each day, based on the typical size of a class in Gaza's overcrowded schools before the war. Sam Rose, UNRWA's director in Gaza, described the situation as unprecedented in modern conflict. 'Every day since the start of the war in Gaza, an average of an entire classroom of children has been killed,' he stated, as schools once meant for learning have become shelters and now, frequent targets. Since October 7, 2023, thousands of children have been killed in Gaza amid a relentless Israeli aggression marked by airstrikes, artillery barrages, and sniper fire. Many were killed inside or near UNRWA schools, which have been repeatedly struck even as they served as shelters for displaced families. The numbers are not just statistics; they reflect a systematic destruction of Gaza's future. With every classroom of children lost, entire families and generations are shattered. The killing of children is only part of the larger picture of suffering. On Sunday, Israeli occupation forces carried out multiple attacks on Palestinians seeking aid, killing and wounding scores. In one of the deadliest incidents, medical sources confirmed that 12 people were killed and over 100 wounded when occupation forces opened fire and shelled crowds gathered near an aid distribution point in the Al-Tina area, southwest of Khan Yunis. Later the same day, Israeli forces reportedly fired a barrage of bullets at people assembled near another aid center operated by an American-Israeli company. north of Rafah. At least 25 people were killed, and more than 70 others were injured, according to the Palestinian News Agency. Elsewhere across the besieged enclave, the killing continues. In Jabalia, two civilians were killed and several others wounded after Israeli forces targeted a group inspecting what remained of their destroyed homes. In central Gaza, three people were injured when an Israeli drone dropped a bomb on a group of civilians in Al-Maghraqa, and several others were wounded in Khan Yunis after a tent sheltering displaced people was hit near the industrial area. Hamas: Israel Rejects Ceasefire Deal with all Captives release
DaysofPal- Hamas has accused the Israeli occupation of rejecting a comprehensive ceasefire deal that would have secured the release of all captives currently held in the Gaza Strip. In a prerecorded video released Friday, Abu Obeida, spokesperson for Hamas's military wing, the Qassam Brigades, stated that the group had recently offered a full-exchange proposal, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his far-right government turned it down. 'It's become evident that Netanyahu's criminal government is not serious about the fate of the captives, because they are soldiers,' Abu Obeida said in his first video address since March. He added that Hamas's proposal would have ended the war, guaranteed the withdrawal of Israeli forces, and allowed unrestricted humanitarian aid into Gaza. The rejection of the deal has stalled indirect negotiations currently taking place in Qatar. Abu Obeida warned that if the Israeli occupation withdraws from these talks, Hamas will not return to partial arrangements, including a 60-day plan being discussed, which would involve the release of 10 captives. According to Hamas, the group still holds around 50 captives, with approximately 20 believed to be alive. U.S. President Donald Trump, speaking during a dinner with lawmakers at the White House on Friday, claimed that 'another 10 captives will be released soon,' asserting that most had already been returned. However, Trump provided no details, and repeated predictions of an imminent ceasefire have so far yielded no results. In a televised statement, Abu Obeida also signaled that Hamas is prepared for a prolonged conflict if no deal is reached, vowing to continue ambushes and attacks targeting Israeli forces in Gaza. He also condemned the silence of Arab and Muslim leaders, accusing them of complicity in the ongoing Israeli offensive. 'The blood of tens of thousands of innocent people is on your hands,' he said, referring to the inaction of regional governments in the face of what he described as genocide. Meanwhile, Israeli forces continue to tighten their grip on Gaza, demanding military control over key corridors that separate different parts of the enclave, including the Morag and Magen Oz corridors. Aid remains largely blocked, and Israeli troops have been accused of shooting starving civilians at food distribution points, including those operated by the controversial Global Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). At the same time, the Israeli occupation is moving ahead with controversial plans to construct a detention facility on the ruins of Rafah, prompting widespread international criticism. On Friday alone, at least 41 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks, according to medical sources. The Gaza Ministry of Health reports that more than 58,667 Palestinians have been killed and 139,974 wounded since the Israeli genocide on Gaza began in October 2023. Since the collapse of the last ceasefire in March, 7,843 have been killed and nearly 28,000 injured. Health officials warn of a dramatic rise in deaths linked to starvation, with hospitals overwhelmed by children and adults arriving in critical condition due to malnutrition and exhaustion. The ministry described the humanitarian situation as 'unprecedented,' with a growing number of patients dying from preventable causes amid the ongoing blockade and destruction of Gaza's medical infrastructure.
