'Individuals came with the purpose of vandalizing our store, using political slogans as a cover to spread intimidation and hatred,' the statement read. 'Let us be clear: this was not a statement of protest, it was an attack on the Jewish community. This was not about policy or politics. It was an act meant to threaten, to isolate, and to target us for who we are.'
Dena Snyder, a Newton resident who's on the board of directors of Temple Emanuel and is a regular shopper at The Butcherie, said she was 'heart sick' when she heard the news Sunday morning.

'Jews are just feeling really threatened everywhere, and I think that there's a heightened concern about the safety of American Jews,' she said. 'The amount of antisemitism that my children are living with is really different from [what] I experienced growing up.'

Antisemitic incidents have been on the rise since Hamas's Oct. 7 attack on Israel, according to the Anti-Defamation League. In 2024, a total of 638 incidents of assault, harassment, and vandalism were reported in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont, according to the ADL, up from 628 in 2023.
In a statement on social media, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey said the incident is concerning and unacceptable.
'Acts of violence and intimidation have no place in our communities. We stand with our Jewish neighbors against antisemitism,' she said. 'Everyone deserves to live, pray and do business without fear in Massachusetts.'

Norway soccer federation says it will donate profits from Israel game to humanitarian work in Gaza
GENEVA (AP) — Norway's soccer federation says it 'cannot remain indifferent' to humanitarian suffering in Gaza and will donate any profits from an upcoming World Cup qualifying game against Israel to aid work there. Norway plays Israel in Oslo on Oct. 11. 'Neither we nor other organizations can remain indifferent to the humanitarian suffering and disproportionate attacks that the civilian population in Gaza has been subjected to for a long time,' Norwegian Football Federation President Lise Klaveness said in a statement Tuesday. 'We want to donate the proceeds to a humanitarian organization that saves lives in Gaza every day and provides active emergency aid on the ground,' she said. It wasn't immediately clear how much the Norwegian federation expected to earn through ticket sales for the match, which begin next week. The Israeli soccer federation responded to the move on Wednesday by urging its Norwegian counterpart also to condemn the Oct. 7, 2023, attacks and hostage-taking by Hamas. In a statement first published by British daily The Telegraph, the Israeli federation also called on the Norwegians to 'make sure that the money is not transferred to terrorist organizations or to whale hunting,' referring to an issue Norway has faced global criticism for. The Norwegian federation said it is working with UEFA and local police on security arrangements for the Oct. 11 game. Extra security is expected to limit capacity by up to 3,000 tickets, the federation said. Ullevaal Stadium typically has crowds of 26,000 for national-team games. Trump administration sanctions ICC officials for efforts to arrest Americans, Israelis
President Trump's administration announced on Wednesday that it is imposing sanctions on four members of the International Criminal Court (ICC), saying they are engaged in efforts to 'investigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute' Americans and Israelis without the consent of either country. The sanctions were slapped on two judges and two prosecutors at the ICC: France's Nicolas Yann Guillou, Fiji's Nazhat Shameem Khan, Senegal's Mame Mandiaye Niang and Canada's Kimberly Prost. 'The United States has been clear and steadfast in our opposition to the ICC's politicization, abuse of power, disregard for our national sovereignty, and illegitimate judicial overreach. The Court is a national security threat that has been an instrument for lawfare against the United States and our close ally Israel,' Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a statement on Wednesday. Last November, ICC judges released arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, ex-Israeli defense head Yoav Gallant and former Hamas commander Ibrahim al-Masri, alleging war crimes and crimes against humanity in light of Israel's war with the Palestinian militant group. The State Department hit Prost for a ruling greenlighting the ICC's probe into U.S. personnel in Afghanistan. Guillou, the French judge, was sanctioned for a ruling to issue arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant. Niang and Khan are the ICC's deputy prosecutors.
