Trees at night photo wins South Downs National Park competition
Mr Embleton-Smith, from Eastbourne, East Sussex, also won in the magnificent moon category for a photo of the rising moon at Petworth Park. He said: "I love exploring and finding new locations under the dark skies of the South Downs National Park."Chanctonbury Ring and Petworth Park are both beautiful areas offering different perspectives and composition for nightscape photography."
Jamie Fielding, of Angmering, won the dark skyscapes category with his picture of the Milky Way in the Cuckmere Valley called To Infinity And Beyond.He had been planning the photo for over a year "waiting for the perfect time when the Milky Way rises over the south coast and aligns with the Cuckmere Valley"."Delighted" with the results, he said he felt "lucky" to have "this quality of dark sky".
Emily Birtwisle won the mobile phone category with her photo of a family stargazing.She said: "After a very eventful 2024, my family and I came to the Seven Sisters for a few days for a little break."The scenery was absolutely gorgeous, and due to the early darkness we could make the most of the lack of light pollution and appreciate the stars."Additional reporting by PA media.

Neyland Carnival is sizzling success in top temperatures
Soaring temperatures saw scheduled 'water stops' for the bands and carnival entrants as they made their way along the route from Honeyborough Green, through the town, down to the promenade and back to the carnival field. Balloons gave some welcome shade to Super Mario and Luigi! (Image: Phil Haskett-Smith) Crowds lined the route and more than 1,000 people then joined in the fun on the field, where Mid and South Pembrokeshire MP Henry Tufnell presented prizes and Wales' First Minister, Eluned Morgan, drew the bumper raffle. (Image: Alex Swales) 'It was another big success with some top-notch entries,' said carnival secretary Alex Swales. 'I think the weather kept some people away, which is understandable. Fortunately, there were no heat-related casualties amongst the many who attended. The mayor of Neyland, Cllr Peter Hay and the mayor of Milford Haven, Cllr William Elliott judged the carnival, together with the deputy mayor of Pembroke Dock, Cllr Tony Wilcox. Maisie Smith and The Crown's Ed McVey to star in The Talented Mr Ripley UK tour
The stage adaptation is based on the 1955 novel of the same name by Patricia Highsmith, which was also the source material for the popular 1999 film starring Matt Damon, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow and Cate Blanchett. McVey, 25, who portrayed a young Prince William in Netflix drama The Crown, will play the mysterious protagonist Tom Ripley, who is offered an opportunity to travel to Italy. Former EastEnders actress Smith, 24, will star as Marge Sherwood, the girlfriend of Dickie Greenleaf, who draws Tom into a world of glittering privilege. Highsmith, whose novel is celebrating its 70th anniversary, went on to write Ripley Under Ground, Ripley's Game, The Boy Who Followed Ripley, and lastly in 1991 Ripley Under Water. The book series has spawned several adaptions including 2005's Ripley Under Ground, starring Barry Pepper, Alan Cumming and Willem Dafoe. More recently the psychological thriller was turned into a mini-series starring Irish actor Andrew Scott in the role of con artist Tom. The stage adaptation will open on September 4 at Cheltenham's Everyman Theatre and will have an official opening night on September 10. After its initial dates in Cheltenham, the show will travel to Edinburgh, Birmingham, Woking, Oxford, Brighton, Bristol, Richmond and Salford. Smith and McVey will be in the starring roles until the end of 2025. Touring dates for 2026 are yet to be announced. Further casting is also to be announced.
