"Osara" project: A coastal tourist, entertainment destination for Khareef Dhofar's season
This Omani youth-led initiative launched in 2022. This year, "Osara" has undergone new developmental works across several of its facilities, including a redesigned waterfront to enhance the visitor experience. This involved expanding sea-view areas, creating open seating arrangements, and adding restaurants and cafes that offer direct beach views.
Majid Samhan Al Mashali, one of the project's founders, told Oman News Agency: "Since the project's inception, we have been keen to introduce innovative ideas that align with visitors' aspirations. We continuously strive to develop various 'Osara' facilities to enhance the quality of the tourism experience."
He noted the addition of a new area for electric games this year within the adventure zone, providing a safe and enjoyable environment for children and their families.
In addition to the waterfront and games area, the site features a traditional market showcasing Omani handicrafts and traditional products for which Dhofar Governorate is renowned. Various retail outlets are also distributed throughout the venue, contributing to the support of productive families and local brands.
"Osara" also includes a theater that hosts cultural and entertainment events targeting various age groups, alongside tranquil beachside seating areas that combine recreation and relaxation.
It is worth mentioning that the "Osara" project boasts an eco-friendly character, having been constructed using recycled wood, making it a model for sustainable tourism.
"Osara" receives support from Dhofar Municipality, the SMEs Development Authority 'Riyada', and Salalah Port, as part of efforts to back youth initiatives and empower local entrepreneurs to contribute to boosting tourism activity during the Khareef season.

Public-private cooperation ramped up to meet needs of Khareef Dhofar visitors
Salalah: A meeting was held today at the Directorate General of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion in Dhofar Governorate. The meeting, which included representatives from various government entities and the private sector, aimed to follow up on work progress during the Khareef Dhofar (monsoon) season and complement ongoing efforts to serve visitors to the governorate. The Undersecretary emphasized the importance of continued provision of essential goods and products, alongside intensified market and commercial outlet inspections to ensure adherence to pricing and service quality. Furthermore, the Undersecretary discussed with representatives from authorities concerned with providing temporary work licenses the importance of continuing to offer facilities to companies and establishments operating during the season. This aims to ensure the continuity of economic activities and meet visitors' needs. Regarding fuel stations, he urged petroleum marketing companies to monitor stations' readiness daily and ensure the availability of all services to meet the increasing demand during the Khareef season. He emphasized that the unique nature of the Khareef season necessitates continued joint action and an accelerated pace of work, even outside official working hours, to ensure the comfort of visitors and residents from both within and outside Oman.

Oman's central bank issues treasury bills worth OMR22mn
Muscat: Oman's central bank raised OMR22 million by way of allotting treasury bills on Monday. The value of the treasury bills are for a maturity period of 91 days. The average accepted price reached OMR98.933 for every OMR100, and the minimum accepted price arrived at OMR98.930 per OMR100. The average discount rate and the average yield reached 4.27900% and 4.32514%, respectively. Treasury Bills are short-term highly secured financial instruments issued by the Ministry of Finance, and they provide licensed commercial banks the opportunity to invest their surplus funds. The Central Bank of Oman (CBO) acts as the Issue Manager and provides theadded advantage of ready liquidity through discounting and repurchase facilities (Repo). It may be noted that the interest rate on the Repo operations with CBO is 5.00% while the discount rate on the Treasury Bills Discounting Facility with CBO is 5.50%. Furthermore, Treasury Bills promote the local money market by creating a benchmark yield curve for short-term interest rates. Additionally, the Government may also resort to this instrument whenever felt necessary for financing its recurrent expenditures.

Heritage Ministry inaugurates Meteorite Corner at Mandarin Oriental Hotel
Muscat: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism launches the Meteorite Corner at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Muscat Governorate. This initiative aligns with the Ministry's efforts to utilize geological heritage and enhance the tourism and cultural experience in the Sultanate of Oman. The corner features a collection of rare meteorite samples from the "Jiddat Al Harasis" strewn field, offering hotel guests a unique opportunity to view them up close and learn about their history and scientific value. It also highlights Oman's commitment to preserving these meteorites as an important cultural legacy. Among the exhibits is a distinctive sample from Jiddat al Harasis 091, which represents the largest meteorite fall discovered in Oman to date. Its strewn field extends approximately 52 kilometres, with over 700 collected pieces totaling around 4,600 kilograms. Documented scientific studies indicate that this fall at its original site occurred over 12,600 years ago. The corner also includes a meteorite sample from Jiddat al Harasis 073, classified as an L6 chondrite stony meteorite. This is considered the second-largest meteorite fall discovered in Oman so far. Scientific studies suggest that this meteorite traveled through the asteroid belt in space, weighing over 20 tonnes, and is estimated to have fallen at its original site 15,600 years ago, during the Paleolithic era. A total of 3,638 pieces from this fall have been documented, with an aggregate weight of 620.9 kilograms and a strewn field extending 25.8 kilometres. The display of these meteorites aims to educate hotel guests, both local and international, about the significance of meteorites, their scientific and historical value, and the legal frameworks and legislations governing them under the Cultural Heritage Law. This initiative emphasizes meteorites as crucial evidence of the solar system's formation, while also showcasing Oman's efforts in collecting, preserving, and studying meteorite samples. This pioneering initiative represents a step towards fostering more partnerships between the government and private sectors to showcase Oman's unique natural treasures on diverse and modern platforms. It aligns with the country's vision to integrate culture and science into a comprehensive and holistic tourism experience.
