HYDERABAD: The Telangana high court has restrained the
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation
(GHMC) from taking any coercive action against Abubakar Bin Mohammed and Omer Bin Mohammed - owners of a property affected by the proposed multi-level flyover at Khajaguda Junction - until they are granted a hearing.
Justice NV Shravan Kumar granted interim relief while disposing of a petition challenging the acquisition of additional land under the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) project.
The petitioners said their family had already surrendered 1011 square yards for road widening in 2008, after which GHMC granted them permission to construct a multi-storey building in the remaining land.

However, the remaining 219 square yards are now part of the proposed alignment for the flyover, prompting fresh acquisition efforts, they said.
The GHMC, in a June 2025 order, asked them to hand over possession of the land and promised structure compensation, according to the petitioners.
They claimed that although they submitted a representation to GHMC on Jan 23, 2024, they received no response until they were asked to accept the acquisition and compensation, including Transferable Development Rights (TDR).

GHMC's counsel told the court that objections to the acquisition could be filed until July 31, 2025, and assured that the petitioners' concerns would be duly considered.
The court directed GHMC to resolve the representation within four weeks after giving the petitioners a fair hearing, and barred any coercive steps during this period.

'Not until we get it resolved': Trump rules out trade talks with India

US President Donald Trump on Thursday said Washington won't enter trade talks with India until the tariff dispute is resolved. 'No, not until we get it resolved,' Trump said in the Oval Office when asked whether he expected talks to resume following his administration's decision to double tariffs on Indian imports. Earlier, principal deputy spokesperson for the US department of state Tommy Pigott described the imposition of tariffs on India as part of a "full and frank dialogue" with New Delhi to push Washington's key concerns. 'This is about an honest, full, and frank dialogue about real concerns that this administration has — concerns the President has outlined very clearly,' Pigott said during a press briefing. 'Addressing those concerns through his actions — he's spoken about them, whether it's about the purchase of Russian oil or about the trade imbalance. Addressing those concerns is important... The President has been very clear... Ultimately, this is about a frank and full dialogue,' he added. This comes after Trump announced a 50% tariff on Indian exports to the United States -- the steepest ever imposed on a major Asian partner. Trump accused India of 'funding Russia's war machine' through continued crude oil purchases from Moscow and warned of further penalties if Prime Minister Narendra Modi does not halt the imports. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas Prices In Dubai Might Be More Affordable Than You Think Villas In Dubai | Search Ads Get Rates Undo The new measure follows Trump's earlier 25% tariff on Indian goods, and a bill advancing through Congress seeks to authorize tariffs of up to 500% on any country buying Russian oil. PM Modi, however, has shown no sign of backing down. Speaking at a national agricultural conference in New Delhi on Thursday, he said, 'India will never compromise on the interests of its farmers, dairy farmers, and fishermen… I am ready to personally pay the huge price.'

The administration cited national security and foreign policy concerns, pointing specifically to India's ongoing imports of Russian oil. The order claims that these imports, whether direct or via intermediaries, present an "unusual and extraordinary threat" to the United States and justify emergency economic measures. Live Events According to US officials, the initial 25% tariff came into effect on 7 August. The additional levy will take effect in 21 days and apply to all Indian goods entering US ports -- with exceptions for items already in transit and certain exempt categories. The order also provides flexibility for the president to modify the measures, depending on changing geopolitical circumstances or retaliatory actions by India or other nations. India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded defiantly during a speech at the MS Swaminathan Centenary International Conference in New Delhi, signalling that New Delhi would not back down in the face of economic pressure. "For us, the interest of our farmers is our top priority," PM Modi said. "India will never compromise on the interests of farmers, fishermen and dairy farmers. I know we will have to pay a heavy price for it, and I am ready for it. India is ready for it." India has consistently pushed back against opening sensitive sectors such as agriculture and dairy to international competition, citing the potential impact on millions of rural livelihoods. The standoff marks a sharp escalation in trade tensions between the two countries, as both sides dig in over economic policy and matters of national interest.
