An Indian-American entrepreneur,
Kunal Jain
, shared a video on X showing an Indian student being handcuffed by police at
Newark airport
. Jain, a social entrepreneur and Hindi author who recently moved to India, highlighted the incident on social media. He also tagged the Minister of External Affairs, S. Jaishankar adding that the young boy was supposed to board the same flight as him but didn't.
"I witnessed a young Indian student being deported from Newark Airport last night— handcuffed, crying, treated like a criminal. He came chasing dreams, not causing harm. As an NRI, I felt helpless and heartbroken. This is a human tragedy," wrote Jain while tagging the Indian embassy in the US.
Reacting to the video, the Indian Embassy in New York on Monday said that it was in touch with local authorities in this regard and the Consulate remains ever committed to the welfare of Indian Nationals.

Video spark online outrage
His post has gone viral all over social media with people reposting it and news websites covering it. The incident marks one of the many atrocities being faced by Indian students who are fearful and unsure of their future in America.

Many people commented on Jain's post, condemning him for posting the incident and not staying around to help the young student. "So easy to write stories. If you were that concerned why didn't you get him released?" wrote a person.
Others questioned the reason why Indian students went to America for higher studies in the first place with the high cost and low safety the country ensures. "Now US is not your dream land. It has become hell for you."
"Indian students must seriously rethink studying in the US. It's no longer the dreamland we were sold. The reality today is stark; rising violence, internal strife, racial discrimination, and institutions overrun with woke nonsense," wrote another.
A person marked how the way the student was being dealt with in public was not justified, writing, "Irrespective of his status, situation, language which you might not understand or you might not convince with his answers, totally agree. But not a way to treat in front of everyone like this."
Another shared how being deported might just be a good thing for the student with India's rising development. "Deported to India? Why should he be sad? I mean he is going back to a rising superpower!"
While most social media users were offended on behalf of the students, others asked if he had legally migrated to the States. "Sorry but he has an illegal status. He should be deported. He can come back to his country. There is no shortage of dreams here."

‘…dangerous place': Donald Trump as US to pull some personnel from Middle East amid tensions with Iran

With nuclear deal negotiations between the US and Iran at a standstill, Washington has opted to pull some of its personnel from the Middle East. President Donald Trump cited rising tensions, calling the region a potentially dangerous place. 'They (US personnel) are being moved out (of some countries of the Middle East) because it could be a dangerous place, and we will see what have given notice to move out,' Donald Trump told the media when asked about the evacuation. On being asked whether anything can be done to lower the temperature in the region, Trump replied, 'They can't have a nuclear weapon. Very simple. They can't have a nuclear weapon. We're not going to allow that.' He was reportedly referring to Iran. This confirmation by President Trump comes right after Reuters reported on Wednesday that the US is preparing for a partial evacuation of its embassy in Iraq and is also allowing other military dependents to leave locations in the middle-east due to enhanced security risks, citing sources. However, the sources did not say what the security risks were. These evacuations also come at a time when US intelligence has hinted that Israel, which is in a war with Gaza right now, is preparing to hit the nuclear facilities in Iran, Reuters reported. A US senator from Arkansas Tom Cotton also claimed on Thursday that defence secretary Pete Hegseth had confirmed that Iran was working towards building a nuclear weapon amid a stalled nuclear deal between the countries. Also read: Pete Hegseth confirmed Iran working towards nuclear weapon, claims US senator 'Today @SecDef confirmed that Iran's terrorist regime is actively working towards a nuclear weapon. For the sake of our national security, the security of our allies, and millions of civilians in the region this cannot be allowed to happen,' he said in a post on X. Trump, who has also repeatedly maintained that he does not want Iran to have a nuclear weapon, told the New York Post in an interview released on Wednesday that he is growing 'less confident' about Iran shutting down its nuclear program and stopping uranium enrichment. 'I don't know, I did think so, and I'm getting more and more — less confident about it. They seem to be delaying, and I think that's a shame, but I'm less confident now than I would have been a couple of months ago. Something happened to them, but I am much less confident of a deal being made,' he told the NYP. Trump also indicated that the US might use force if Iran doesn't agree on the nuclear deal. However, Iranian Defence Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh also said on Wednesday that if their country was struck, it would retaliate by hitting American bases in the region, the Reuters report said. Honeymoon horror: 'Mangalsutra' left by Sonam helps investigators crack Meghalaya murder

Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife Sonam had left their suitcase at a homestay in Sohra before going missing, and the 'mangalsutra' and a ring found in it helped investigators crack the honeymoon murder case, Meghalaya's Director General of Police (DGP) I Nongrang said on Wednesday (June 11, 2025). Sonam (25) and Raja (29) got married in Indore on May 11 and reached Meghalaya via Guwahati in Assam on May 20 for their honeymoon. Both of them went missing on May 23 in Sohra in East Khasi Hills district, hours after checking out of a homestay at Nongriat village. Raja's body was found in a gorge near Weisawdong Falls on June 2. A search continued for Sonam, who emerged in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur, around 1,200 km away, in the early hours of June 9 and surrendered as police arrested his boyfriend Raj Kushwaha and the three contract killers hired by them to murder Raja. Also Read | Meghalaya murder: One of the accused took people to man's funeral in Indore "We recovered Sonam's 'mangalsutra' and a ring from the suitcase the couple abandoned at a homestay in Sohra. A married woman leaving behind the ornaments gave us a clue to pursue her as a suspect in the case," DGP Nongrang told PTI. 'Mangalsutra' is a sacred necklace worn by married Hindu women, signifying their bond with their husband. The couple walked into the homestay in Sohra on May 22 without any prior booking, another police officer, who is part of the investigation, told PTI. They did not get a room there, and thus they decided to keep their suitcase at the homestay as it would be troublesome to trek over 3,000 steps with it to the Nongriat village to see the double-decker root bridge, he said. While their suitcase remained at the Sohra homestay, they spent the night at a homestay in Nongriat before checking out early on May 23. They trekked back to Sohra, took their scooter from the parking and went to Weisawdong Falls, where Raja was allegedly killed by the three contract killers in front of his wife, he added. PTI had on Saturday reported that a tour guide had seen the couple with three Hindi-speaking men while they were climbing back to Sohra from Nongriat. "The accused persons have admitted to the crime, and with all the evidence, there is no room to deny," the police officer said. A court in Shillong has sent Sonam, her boyfriend Raj and the three hitmen to eight-day police custody.
