Halsey was 'picky' before making movie debut in Americana
The 30-year-old star features in Tony Tost's modern Western and explained that she "really connected" with the project, which is finally hitting cinemas later this month after being filmed in 2022.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at the movie's LA premiere on Sunday (03.08.25), Halsey said: "I'd been waiting a really long time, I'd been really cautiously picky about what I was going to do for my first project for getting into this world, into this space.
"Tony reached out and he was so personable and so talented and I just really connected with the script and the character. Little did I know we were going to be making it during Covid, which was a crazy experience."
The Bad at Love singer - who has son Ender, four, with her ex-partner Alev Aydin - added: "And from the moment I read the script until we started shooting. I got pregnant, had a whole pregnancy, gave birth to my son, had my son on set with me, and without giving anything away, it's really serendipitous to (her character) Mandy's arc in the film."
Halsey stars in the movie alongside Sydney Sweeney - who had previously appeared in the music video for her 2019 song Graveyard - and was grateful to the Echo Valley actress for answering her "stupid questions" on set.
She recalled: "We were actually hanging out a bunch during Covid, so when I got the call she was doing the movie we had like just gone hiking a few days before, so it was like, 'Oh cool, I'll see you there.'
"It was just really great to have someone to learn from, to ask questions to - the stupid questions you don't think of. It was my first time on a movie set in a real way; just being like, 'Who do I look at? Who do I listen to? What's the cool code words I don't know, the actor lingo?' So having someone to ask the stupid questions to was great."
Halsey - whose real name is Ashley Nicolette Frangipane - has revealed that she is developing the new Amazon series Bloodlust, although she is thankful that she will not be acting in the dark comedy.
She explained: "I started the pilot a few years ago and Amazon wanted it and they took it and now we're getting it on the road. There's not so much that I can say but it's really cool to be part of a project that I don't face. It's quite relieving."
Halsey added: "(I'm) just behind the scenes, just the puppet master.
"I don't have to do my makeup."

I'd want to stay away from her but at the same time, it was Amy and she's so sweet." Similarly, Julia cherished working with Josh, describing her co-star as "amazing". The 31-year-old actress admitted that Josh is "one of [her] favourite actors". She said: "We had so much fun. We spent every day giggling and laughing. "He's one of my favourite actors and he's just the best. Getting to meet him was incredible, and then working with him was incredible because of who he is as a person. He's so present as an actor. It really was a truly remarkable experience all around." Meanwhile, Josh previously admitted to having a "love-hate" relationship with acting. Despite this, the movie star revealed that he loved the experience of "losing [himself]" in a character. He told Forbes: "I always had a love-hate relationship with acting. "Acting to me was, I don't know - playing characters was probably the most fun that I had in really losing yourself in a character, if you're doing, you know, W, or if you're doing Milk or, you know, Only the Brave or Everest or things like that - things that are super adventurous or really deep in character."

Chris Hemsworth banned from surfing 40-foot wave
Chris Hemsworth was banned from surfing a 40-foot wave for his new TV show over fears he would drown. The actor has filmed a follow-up to his 2022 National Geographic series Limitless - titled Limitless: Live Better Now - in which he takes on challenges including learning drums to perform with Ed Sheeran at a concert, training with Special Forces in South Korea to tackle his back pain and climbing 600-foot dam in the Swiss Alps - and Chris has now revealed he initially wanted to include a surfing stunt but it was deemed too risky. He told The Hollywood Reporter: "I was going to attempt to surf a 40-foot wave and train with big wave specialists, but we couldn't get it through the ranks. "The risk assessment, basically, was too far gone, so I ended up climbing a 200-meter dam wall,. "They both have a fair amount of risk attached to them, but [the dam climb] got past the risk assessment team. So there definitely was [concern]: 'No, we need him to go off and shoot Thor next. We can't have him drown while filming a big wave episode'." Hemsworth went on to reveal he only gave him two weeks to learn a song on the drums before performing with Ed Sheeran at a gig in front of 70,000 fans - and he now wishes he'd given himself more time to practice. He explained: "Well, the truth is I didn't [cancel all my plans]. I should have canceled a whole lot more. I was in and out of a press tour at the time. I had other work obligations. I have three kids, and I couldn't cancel them, so they were still there ... "I would've liked to have sent them off somewhere else for a couple of weeks and applied my complete focus to this, but I wasn't able to do that ... "I had about six-to-eight weeks to learn, and I kept putting it off. And about two weeks out, I realized I didn't know the song. I was in the space of no return. It was too late basically." The actor spent two weeks working hard on his drumming and ended up with blisters all over his hands. He admitted the experience of performing with Sheeran at the gig in Bucharest last year was "terrifying" but he was "thankful" for the experience. He added: "70,000 people were singing along in unison and moving to this beat, this track, this song, this artistic creation that Ed assembled, and I was a piece of that puzzle. It felt how universal prayer or meditation or something on a big global scale might feel like ... "It was pretty special. I'm very thankful for it." Limitless: Live Better Now lands on Disney Plus/Hulu on August 15 and airs on National Geographic on August 25.

What lies beneath this real-life horror story
The 2000 Hollywood thriller What Lies Beneath might not have been Robert Zemeckis' finest work — a few cheap jump scares, quickly forgotten. But the real horror playing out beneath South Australia's normally pristine waters is far from fiction. It's truly terrifying. Aside from the COVID-19 pandemic, it's hard to recall a crisis in our state of this scale and gravity. A kilometres-long stretch of coastline is blanketed in thick brown foam and sludge. Entire beaches — usually teeming with swimmers, walkers, frolicking dogs and kids building sandcastles — now sit empty (because, let's face it, most of us are avoiding them like the plague). But dive deeper and the true devastation emerges. Below the surface, marine life is suffocating. Choking. Dying. Our ocean has become an underwater graveyard. Marine ecosystems so devastated, any sign of recovery seems to be drifting further away by the day. The images pouring into the Channel 7 newsroom in Adelaide are nothing short of heartbreaking. Our cameras are documenting the carnage and South Australians are sending us more every single day. Photos and videos of fish, dolphins, rays, crabs, penguins and even sharks washed up lifeless on our shores. And don't get me started on that poor fur seal found slumped gasping for air on the footpath in Brighton. Was it was trying to flee rough seas or was it another casualty of the algal bloom? We're told it's a natural event. We know it's a disaster. But somehow, in this case, one plus one doesn't equal two. Canberra still refuses to formally declare this crisis a natural disaster. The mind boggles. The blood boils and what about the South Australians whose livelihoods depend on the ocean? Our tourism operators, commercial fishers, fishmongers. They're not just watching the environment collapse, they're feeling the financial impact. And they're hurting. Will it get worse? Will our beaches be off-limits this summer? Can we safely eat what's left of the catch? Will government inaction today haunt us tomorrow? Past mismanagement, present crisis and a community demanding answers. What lies beneath? The truth, still buried.
