Harbour set to come alive with song and opera in SPAN's Big Sing
SAUNDERSFOOT Harbour will be transformed into a vibrant stage of sound and colour on Friday, May 24, as SPAN Arts hosts its much-anticipated Big Sing event—bringing together choirs, composers, filmmakers and street artists in a spectacular free celebration of music and creativity.
The evening begins at 7:30pm with the grand premiere of Songs of the Land, a new choral work by Pembrokeshire-born composer James Williams, performed live by a massed choir made up of singing groups from across the county. The piece is the final outcome of SPAN's Love Stories to Nature commission—a year-long project exploring people's personal and collective connections to the Welsh landscape.
The choirs involved in the commission have helped shape the composition by contributing their own stories and reflections about their relationship with the land. The result is a moving musical work that not only celebrates community, but also documents a shared experience of place, memory and identity.
As darkness falls, audiences will be treated to a dramatic shift in tone as Music Theatre Wales presents two newly commissioned Street Art Opera films—Rahmat–Mercy–Trugaredd and Out of Time—projected onto the side of the Saundersfoot Coastal Schooner.
Both pieces fuse music, animation, street art and storytelling to deliver operatic experiences rooted in contemporary themes. Rahmat–Mercy–Trugaredd, inspired by Sufi spirituality and hip-hop culture, follows a young woman's journey to empowerment through creativity. The work blends henna art and graffiti with a soaring operatic score to powerful effect.
In contrast, Out of Time offers a darkly comic vision of a post-human world where nature has reasserted its dominance. As the Earth reclaims its beauty, the opera asks whether it's too late for redemption.
Organisers say the event is designed to be accessible and inclusive, with no tickets or booking required. The performances are part of a broader effort by SPAN Arts and Music Theatre Wales to take high-quality cultural experiences beyond traditional venues and into the heart of local communities.
A spokesperson for SPAN Arts said: 'This is a truly special evening—one that brings together voices from across Pembrokeshire, world-class artists, and cutting-edge storytelling in a setting that's hard to beat. We hope people of all ages will join us to celebrate the power of creativity, nature and community.'

Experts issue warning to Brit parents over the Labubu toys & the simple trick to check you haven't bought a ‘dodgy doll'
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) IT'S one of the most sought-after buys of this year. But now Brit parents have been issued an urgent warning over the viral Labubu toys. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 3 Labubus have captured the heart of the internet and have sparked a frenzy Credit: AP 3 British authorities have seized hundreds of thousands of counterfeits - which can also pose a serious health risk Credit: 3 Authorities in the UK have started issuing warnings about the dupes Credit: Intellectual Property Labubus are undoubtedly the toy of 2025 - with big names, such as Rihanna, David Beckham, Kim Kardashian, Gemma Collins and Olivia Attwood showing off the little monsters. With their devilish toothy grins and wide eyes, Labubus have captured the heart of the internet and have sparked a frenzy, with mile-long queues lining up to get their hands on the toys. A single doll can set you back anywhere from £13.50 to £211 depending on the rarity of the design. But dodgy dealers looking to make a quick buck are using underhand tactics to profit off shoppers - and experts have warned the dodgy dolls pose a serious risk. The ''dangerous counterfeits'' could pose a choking hazard for children, Hull City Council's Trading Standards team told Mail Online. Rogue traders are cashing in on their popularity by selling poor-quality versions with small parts that can easily detach. Hundred have been seized, but it is feared there could be many more still on sale across the nation. However, there are also easy ways to check if you have purchased a fake Labubu. The dodgy dolls tend to have matt packaging rather than glossy and more or less than the nine gnashers the original Labubus have. A different shape or size of the mouth can also be an indicator you've bought a dangerous counterfeit. Dramatic moment crowds join massive queue to grab viral Labubu dolls as latest doll craze sweeps across the world The quality of a fake Labubu will also be of poorer standard, like wobbly limbs and odd colours. To really know if you've got the real deal, buyers of newer editions will find a UV-detectable seal on the right foot. Under UV light, shoppers should see a silhouette of the specific Labubu model. It's understood more than 100,000 counterfeit dolls have already been seized by UK Border Force, arriving in the country in fast parcels or via air cargo. What are Labubu and why are they so popular? LABUBU is a brand of plushies designed by Hong Kong-born artist Kasing Lung and loved by celebrities like Olivia Attwood, Dua Lipa and Rihanna. The brand made its debut in 2015, but skyrocketed in global popularity after hitting Pop Mart shelves in 2019. Pop Mart is a Chinese toy retailer, known for its collectible designer models that are often sold in a blind box format, meaning you don't know what you've got until you've opened it. After mammoth success overseas, the Labubu craze has now made its way to the UK. The first three months of 2025 were wildly successful for the brand, with Brits searching high and low to nab one of the quirky figurines. Since opening stores in London and Manchester over the last 12 months, Labubu dolls have become cult collectibles among grown British women. Labubus come in an array of vibrant colours, unique shapes and various sizes, spanning from plush toys to striking vinyl figures. They come as little toys you can hook on your handbag, as well as mega-sized figures and quirky home decorations. The "monster elves" are sold in blind boxes, meaning consumers can't see their new doll until it is unwrapped. This clever marketing tactic designed to build suspense has been deliberately exploited by counterfeiters who are packing the boxes with cheap dupes. The fake dolls are known as Lafufus and they are flooding the global market - selling for as little as £2.99. Councils have warned that children in Scotland and Wales have fallen ill following exposure to the dolls. Helen Barnham, Deputy Director of Enforcement at the Intellectual Property Office, told The Sun: "We're seeing criminals increasingly exploit viral toy trends, with counterfeit versions of popular products appearing within days of them going viral. "These counterfeit toys are unlikely to have undergone the rigorous safety testing required for genuine products and can pose serious safety risks. "Children's safety must always come first, and we encourage parents to always research products thoroughly and only purchase from trusted sources."

Cristiano Ronaldo proposes to Georgina Rodríguez with massive diamond ring
After nearly a decade together, Cristiano Ronaldo has announced his engagement to partner Georgina Rodríguez. The Portuguese footballer, who captains both the Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr and the Portugal national team, first met Georgina in 2016 when she was working as a sales assistant at a Gucci store in Madrid in 2016. This week the couple announced they are set to walk down the aisle. Posting a photo on Instagram of their hands on a bed, with a massive diamond ring on her finger, the Argentinian-born, Spanish raised model wrote: 'Yes I do. In this and in all my lives.' The post was quickly met with hundreds of comments congratulating the pair. 'So happy for you,' Lauren Sanchez Bezos wrote. 'Darling, what fabulous news!!! Sending you both heartfelt congratulations and so much LOVE!!' Charlotte Tilbury shared. 'Wonderful news! Many congrats to you both,' Piers Morgan added. Many others also shared comments with a series of love heart emojis. Cristiano and Georgina share five children. They have two daughters together, Alana, seven, and Bella, three – while Bella's twin brother Angel tragically died during birth. At the time they shared: 'It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away. It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel.' Georgina has also helped to raise his other three children – Cristiano Jr, 15, Mateo, eight, and Eva Maria, eight. The football star – who is worth an estimated $275million (£204million) – also has three more children, a son born in June 2010 and twins born in June 2017, however Georgina treats them all as her own children. The official engagement post comes after speculation Cristiano had proposed in recent months. Fans had been speculating he'd got down on one knee after she had shared pictures of a bridal-themed dinner and posed for photographs wearing a ring. Cristiano had previously spoken about holding off on proposing as the timing wasn't 'quite right'. 'I always tell her: 'When we get that click. Like everything with our life, and she knows what I'm talking about. It could be in a year, or it could be in six months or it could be in a month. I'm 1000% sure that it'll happen,' he said. On her Netflix reality show I Am Georgina, she had also detailed how loved ones were asking for updates too. 'They're always joking about the wedding. 'When is the wedding?'. 'Since Jennifer Lopez's song The Ring Or When came out, they started singing it to me. And well, this is not up to me,' she said. In the documentary he also described Georgina as 'the woman of my life', adding that he is 'completely in love with her'. 'I didn't think at the beginning that it would be this strong, that I would fall in love with her… I didn't expect it honestly but after I while I felt like she was the woman of my life,' he said. Meanwhile she added: 'I used to dream of a Prince Charming and today I have one with wonderful kids who give me so much love. Yes, I can say dreams do come true.' Despite not officially confirming their marriage, Cristiano has often referred to Georgina as his 'wife'. More Trending At the 2024 Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai late last year, he said: 'It's a big pleasure to win this trophy. My oldest son is here; my wife is here.' Earlier this year, when celebrating Georgina's birthday, Cristiano also posted on social media: 'For the mother, partner, friend, my wife… happy birthday, love. Your light illuminates us, and your love infects us.' View More » The footballer once said that meeting his partner was 'like love at first sight'. Got a story? Strictly star says he faked scenes on dance show in shock admission
Incoming pro dancer was involved in a fakery row and says he will stand up to producers if ever asked to do it again Strictly Come Dancing's new professional dancer Julian Caillon has admitted he once faked a row on TV in a bid to create more drama. The Australian-born star, who joins the BBC series this autumn, told how he acted up for the cameras to please producers who wanted the fake friction to boost ratings. Caillon was appearing on the Aussie version of the ballroom show, Dancing With The Stars, when he was paired with a female celebrity with a hectic work schedule, which sometimes made her late for rehearsals. The 29-year-old dancer and choreographer claims producers cooked up a plan for him to pretend he was angry with her for not being on time - and he went along with it. 'Reality TV is not necessarily what you think,' he explained afterwards. 'A massive aspect of reality TV is not really real. I remember in one episode of Dancing With The Stars, one of my celebrities was late to rehearsals and the producers were asking me to go around and pretend that I was frustrated. 'But she had something pop up and stuff happens sometimes and life gets in the way and we get a little bit late. It's not the biggest deal in the world. We just stay back a bit later. But they made this whole kind of thing out of it.' But Julian says while he agreed to act annoyed at the time, he would refuse to go through with it if asked now. 'I think during my earlier experiences, whatever I was asked to say or do, I just thought, 'It's a privilege for me to be here. I need them to like me. So I'll just say and do whatever needs to be done'," he explained. Speaking on the podcast Try with Alex, hosted by Australian Survivor contestant Alex Coe, he added: 'In a way, it teaches you to know what your values are and what you're willing to do and not do. It made me be confident in my own choices. 'Now, I have clear boundaries and lines where I know, 'This is what I'm willing to do. If they ask me to say this, I'm just gonna say no'." Julian, who is also a former athlete and personal trainer, joined Dancing with the Stars Down Under in 2020 and stayed for three seasons, with his partners including Gogglebox Australia star Angie Kent and model Erin McNaught. For all three appearances, he and his partner were the second couple to be eliminated. The dancer is one of two new pros lining up alongside the Strictly regulars, who include Johannes Radebe, Katya Jones and Nikita Kuzmin. The other one is American-born Alexis Warr - a former winner of US series So You Think You Can Dance. She has told how she has a backstage ritual before every routine as she thinks it will bring her good luck. 'I wipe the bottom of my shoe before I go on and then rub my hands,' she said. 'I don't know why. I just feel more grounded that way. And I always say a prayer before I go on. And if I am with my partner we will always take deep breaths together.' This year's Strictly is expected to launch on September 20.
