AAI calls for tender to expand car parking at existing terminal in Cimbatore

Time of India30-04-2025

Coimbatore: As part of the redevelopment project of the existing terminal at the Coimbatore International Airport, Airport Authority of India (AAI) has called for a tender to expand the car parking space at Rs 10.6 crore.
The proposed car park will be more than double the size of the existing parking lot and the project has been planned in two phases.
An AAI officer said the existing parking lot has a capacity to accommodate 236 cars and a few two-wheelers on approximately 2.4 acres, while the new lot will accommodate 524 cars.
The proposed expansion is expected to spread across nearly 7-8 acres in addition to the existing space.

The proposed parking expansion plan also includes allotment of space for arrival and pick-up.
According to AAI website, the last date to bid is May 20. The tender subject is mentioned as Modification and Shifting of Carpark at Coimbatore International Airport–Phase I.
As per the plan, the surface-level car and bike parking will be constructed in phase 1 and will accommodate 524 cars and 160 bikes. Phase 1 is expected to be ready in nine months after the allotment of the contract.
It has been proposed to allocate 46 bays for taxis, five for buses and 11 as premium parking spaces in the second phase.
"The expansion of car parking at Coimbatore airport is a much needed one. It needs to be completed in a time-bound manner. Along with this, AAI needs to address the issue of terminal congestion and increase the existing terminal capacity to manage traffic from the next 5-7 years until the new terminal becomes operational," Shyam Prabhu, an aviation analyst, said.
Director of the Kongu Global Forum J Sathish said there was an increase in air traffic despite limitations in the existing terminal.
"AAI should operate the additional terminal building that is kept on hold. When it becomes operational, the growth of air traffic will increase even more," he added.

City relives horror of 1988 IA crash

Ahmedabad: Memories from the past on Thursday returned to haunt Amdavadis. Thirty-seven years ago, on Oct 19, 1988, Ahmedabad had witnessed a similar air tragedy when Indian Airlines Flight 113 crashed near the airport, killing 133 out of the 135 people on board, including six crew members and pilots. The flight to Ahmedabad had taken off from Mumbai airport early that morning. The crash's two survivors were a young businessman, Ashok Agrawal, and then Gujarat Vidyapith vice-chancellor, Vinod Tripathi. The flight crashed in the Kotarpur area, 2.5km from the approach end of the airstrip. This spot is on the other end of the strip where the London-bound Air India flight crashed in a high-nose angle on Thursday, moments after take-off. Investigations into the 1988 crash later revealed that the pilots did not adhere to procedure under poor visibility conditions. Airport authorities were also held liable for not informing the aircraft about the prevailing poor visibility conditions. The Indian Airlines aircraft was a Boeing 737-2A8, registered VT-EAH, delivered to the airline in Dec 1970 and had accumulated 42,831 hours and 47,647 landings till the day of the tragedy. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo A year after the crash, Indian Airlines offered to pay Rs 2 lakh as full and final settlement to relatives of each of the victims, the maximum amount allowed under Rules 17 and 22 of the Second Schedule to the Carriage by Air Act 1972. However, the victims' kin sued the airlines and airport authorities. A city civil court enhanced the compensation amount to a total of Rs 6 crore, with the liability divided between the airlines and airport authorities in the ratio of 70:30. Survivor Ashok Agrawal was ordered to be paid Rs 60 lakh compensation with 6% interest. Airport authorities appealed in the Gujarat high court, which reduced the compensation amount to Rs 45 lakh in 2009. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . KYC update pain may ease as RBI rejigs rules

Representative image MUMBAI: RBI has eased KYC norms to simplify compliance and to make it easier for individuals to access long-dormant bank accounts and unclaimed deposits, many of which have remained untouched for over 10 years. The move, announced through a circular on June 12, aims to ensure that anti-money laundering rules do not hinder rightful account holders from accessing their savings particularly in accounts opened to receive government benefits. RBI has asked banks to give three advance intimations prior to the due date of periodic updation of KYC and at least one intimation must be by letter. In the past customers have complained that digital alerts have been missed and they only come to know when they are not able to transact on their account. The central bank has also asked banks to allow KYC updates at any branch, irrespective of where the account was opened. It has also permitted the use of Aadhaar OTP and video-based customer identification for periodic KYC updates. Business correspondents, especially in rural areas, can now assist customers with reactivating inoperative accounts and completing KYC requirements. According to RBI, banks must take an 'empathetic view' when dealing with low-risk customers seeking to update their KYC or reactivate dormant accounts. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Customers with no changes in personal information, or only a change of address, can now submit self-declarations through digital or offline channels, without the need for additional documents. Banks have been directed to organise KYC update camps, especially in rural and semi-urban areas, and to launch focused campaigns in branches with a high number of pending updates. These efforts are particularly targeted at accounts linked to direct benefit transfers and Jan Dhan accounts, where KYC compliance has lagged. According to Anand Bajaj, founder MD & CEO of PayNeary, allowing business correspondents to collect self-declarations and assist with biometric-based e-KYC, will allow banks to efficiently reach customers in areas with limited branches. 85 if not 100: e-bus plan in limbo, UT ready to settle for less

1 2 Chandigarh: Facing the imminent phasing out of 100 diesel buses and struggling to get 100 e-buses as their replacements for more than a year, the Chandigarh administration will now send a fresh proposal for procuring 85 new e-buses to the central govt. A UT official said the Transport Department would again prepare a detailed proposal and submit it to the Ministry of Home Affairs. Recently, the officers of the Transport Department also went to Delhi and held a meeting regarding the purchase of buses. "Under the current circumstances, the administration will float fresh tenders on its own. The terms and conditions will be the same as those set by the central govt. The tender will be floated after approval from the competent authority. From the start of the tendering process to the delivery of buses, it will take at least six months," said a UT official. The urgency for procuring the buses stems from the fact that out of the 358 diesel buses, 100 will complete their 15-year service limit by November this year, and these will have to be phased out. The CTU is the mainstay of the public transport system in the tricity, with Mohali having no tricity bus service available and Panchkula having a very limited local bus service. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Clean Warehouses = Safe Workplaces SearchMore Learn More Undo If these 100 buses are taken off the road, there would be a consequent reduction in bus services within the tricity. The process to replace these 100 diesel buses with e-buses started a couple of years ago. "The buses were being purchased under a central govt scheme, and even the tendering process was completed last year. But since then, litigation plagued the execution of the tender. Even if the tender materialises now, we are still unlikely to get the 100 buses before November," said the official. The new 100 e-buses were to be ultra-low entry (ULE) vehicles of 12m length. The existing e-buses with CTU are 9m long and of low entry. The 100 buses were being availed under the 'PM e-Bus Sewa' scheme. Earlier, e-buses were availed under phase II of the FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles) India Scheme of the central govt. In the tendering process for the new e-buses, which concluded in March 2024, the lowest bid was Rs 61.8 per km.
