Musician and Spinal Tap star David Kaff dies aged 79
The 79-year-old actor and musician died last week, with his band announcing the news, but not specifying the cause of death.
Mutual of Alameda's Wild Kingdom, Kaff's band, announced on social media on Friday, July 11: 'Our brother David Kaffinetti passed away peacefully in his sleep yesterday.
'We are devastated by this event.
'David always had a kind word and a quick wit that would slay you where you stand.
'Then he'd make you smile doing it! RIP dear brother.'
Kaff was a member of the progressive rock band Rare Bird for six years between 1969 and 1975, releasing five albums during their time together. Their single Sympathy reached the top 30 in 1970 in the UK singles chart. He was later in the band Mutual of Alameda's Wild Kingdom.
Fans were quick to share their sincere condolences with the band on social media.
Billy Garoutte commented on the Facebook post: 'My deepest condolences sent. 😕'
'Rest in peace Viv. Condolences to family and friends. Love and Aloha,' said Tim Gannon, referencing Kaff's most famous acting role.
'Very very sorry for the loss,' said Kevin Beville.
Despite his musical success he was best known by fans for playing Spinal Tap keyboardist, Viv Savage, in the popular 1984 musical comedy This Is Spinal Tap.
The original 1984 film This Is Spinal Tap mocked heavy rock bands, pointing out the ridiculousness of their backstage debaucherous behaviour and outfits. More Trending
The mockumentary centred on the fictional heavy metal band Spinal Tap – and was filled with quotable moments that decades later still have people reciting.
The movie was a massive success, leading to the main trio actually performing as Spinal Tap at various concerts, including at Glastonbury Festival, Live Earth concerts, and at a tribute to Freddie Mercury.
A Spinal Tap sequel, titled Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, has been released – with Sir Elton John and Sir Paul McCartney confirmed to cameo.
The new film is set to feature the original cast members, including Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer, and director Rob Reiner.

Charli XCX stuns in white wedding dress as she marries her The 1975 star fiancé
CHARLI XCX has married her The 1975 star fiancé George Daniel, according to reports. A video shared by Culted and numerous fan accounts shows Charli in a stylish white wedding dress beside her drummer beau in a suit. 3 3 The pop star, 32, is holding a bouquet of flowers and looks to be flanked by beaming family members as they posed for pictures on the venue's steps. The ceremony follows both stars performing epic sets at this year's Glastonbury Festival. The 1975 headlined the Pyramid Stage on Friday night while Charli topped The Other Stage on Saturday night, pulling in a bigger crowd than Neil Young on the site's main stage. We revealed how George, 35, jetted off to Ibiza earlier in the week for a stag do in Ibiza. It is currently unclear where the couple tied the knot. We revealed how they were planning a huge ceremony in Sicily, Italy. And the couple weren't holding back with the budget, with insiders saying the final bill is close to six figures. The insider said: ' Charli and George fell in love with Sicily and knew they wanted to get married there. "It's incredibly secluded and romantic. There will be no expense spared. It's costing tens of thousands of pounds and visually it will be mesmerising. 'Charli and George said they wanted a massive party and there are no restrictions on when the bar has to close, so it can go on all night. 'They have both had such a busy summer with massive shows, but from mid-August they're able to slow down and focus on their big day. 'It's going to be pretty star-studded too, with plenty of their celeb mates making the journey over to Sicily to watch them say 'I do'. Charli and George are so excited to become man and wife.' Charli XCX fans say X-rated Grammys performance is 'best in show's history' - but critics blast the star's 'lip-syncing' It's the perfect end to an amazing year for the pair, who smashed their incredible sets at Glastonbury last month. Bizarre revealed in November 2023 that they had got engaged after dating for a year. On plans for her wedding, Charli said earlier this year: "We're both very chill and we kind of just want to have a party. 'Neither of us are particularly formal about marriage or care about the formalities of the ceremony or whatever. 'We just want to be together forever and have a party with our friends.' Given there's no cut-off for the music or bar, I think this is going to be one epic celebration.

No further action to be taken over Kneecap's Glastonbury set
The Irish language rap trio from Belfast featured as part of the Somerset music festival this year. A criminal investigation was launched by Avon and Somerset Police shortly afterwards. It said it had appointed a senior detective to investigate whether comments made on stage amounted to a criminal offence after reviewing footage. Today we informed Kneecap no further action will be taken after an investigation into comments made at Glastonbury Festival. Enquiries continue to be carried out into separate comments made on stage during Bob Vylan's performance. Full statement 🔽 However, they said that no further action would be taken as there was "insufficient evidence" for a conviction. Avon and Somerset Police said in a statement: 'An investigation has been carried out into comments about a forthcoming court case made during Kneecap's performance at Glastonbury Festival on Saturday 28 June. 'Detectives sought advice from the Crown Prosecution Service during their enquiries and after that advice, we have made the decision to take no further action on the grounds there is insufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction for any offence.' Kneecap are known for making pro-Palestinian and political comments during their live performances. 🚨 We are on GENERAL SALE 🚨 We expect many shows to sell out today so be quick! 💥 🎟️ Band member Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, who performs under the name Mo Chara, was charged with a terrorism offence earlier this year. Will Poulter's model ex claims he dumped her over WhatsApp 'without warning'
Hollywood actor Will Poulter was in a relationship with model Bobby T for three years, but she claims he 'ghosted' her and her son over WhatsApp and left without warning Will Poulter's ex-girlfriend has accused him of 'ghosting' her and her son after she claims he dumped her 'without warning' over WhatsApp. The 32-year-old was in a three-year relationship with model Bobby T, who at 45 is 13 years older than him. The actor, who shot to fame in E4 sketch show School of Comedy, is thought to have moved on with Top Boy actress Saffron Hocking, 31, after the pair were spotted having lunch and spending time together at Glastonbury Festival and Wimbledon. But his ex - who says the pair were discussing marriage and had built a life together before Will disappeared 'like he never existed' - has taken to social media to publicly blast his actions, especially as he was a stepdad to her young son. Taking to Instagram, Bobby - whose real name is Erin Campaneris - wrote in her stories: "Just so there's no confusion, I was in a real relationship for almost three years. We built a life together. We planned the details of our wedding. He wasn't just in my life. He was in my son's." She continued: "He called him his stepson and they had a real relationship. Because of his age my son only remembers a life when he was there. That was his normal. "He was there for first days of school and volunteered his his classroom. He came to school meetings and showed up in every way. The school knew him as family. "Then one day with no warning and no signs of trouble he just ended it over WhatsApp. That was it. Just gone." Describing how she was 'in love', Bobby said: "We were blindsided. But what hurts most is how easily he disappeared, especially from my son's perspective. Like he never existed. 'I have waited months in hope that I would have more clarity, but I wasn't given that by him or his family, who we considered family too." She went on to say she "didn't even get their belongings back" after the split, believed to have happened earlier this year. Detailing how she had faced cruelty and judgment from other women in the wake of the break up, Bobby said: "I am not scorned. I just want the truth to be known so I can move forward with my life in peace. Please let this be all and I will not be sharing any more." Will and Bobby were first linked in 2022 when they were seen kissing on the streets of West Hollywood. She lives in America with her son, while Will is thought to split his time between America and the UK. Speaking of Will and Bobby's romance, a source said the pair realised their connection "wasn't going to last long term". It's said Bobby's main priority remains her son. Will - who has also starred in Hollywood films The Chronicles of Narnia, We Are The Millers, Maze Runner and The Revenant - is said to have struggled with balancing the distance and work. The source continued to tell The Sun: "He's known Saffron for a while but they have been spending more time together recently. They were both hosted by Barbour at Glasto and got on like a house on fire. It's very early days and while they might be telling people they are just friends, the sparks between them are obvious to everyone." The Mirror has reached out to Will's reps for comment on this story.
