MLB Insider Lists Braves Slugger As Best Designated Hitter On Market

The Atlanta Braves have not had the season that they hoped for, and MLB.com Insider Mark Feinsand has their designated hitter, Marcell Ozuna, as the best available at the trade deadline.
Ozuna was once perceived to be an MVP-type candidate type of player. Those days have since passed him by, and he is now 34 years old and headed for free agency in the winter is now on the trade block.

Photo by Matthew Grimes Jr./Ozuna still possesses the power to change the momentum of a game at any moment, and with a market low on power hitters, the Braves could trade his services for a premium. Ozuna has hit 13 home runs this season, which is significantly down from his 39 last season and 40 in 2023.
While Feinsand labels his buzz as medium, there are a lot of positives to the Braves moving on from the slugger. They would open the door for Drake Baldwin to garner more playing time as the designated hitter when he isn't catching, ditto for Sean Murphy. Along with allowing their catching duo to stay in the lineup, the Braves would be able to gain a couple of prospects that could help replenish their farm system.
With the Braves unlikely to bring the slugger back into the fold next season, trading him might be their best option. If they are truly setting their eyes on next season and calling this one a lost cause, then there is no harm in sending Ozuna off to compete as the team prepares for a rebound next year.

2025 NFL Odds: Public Backing Aaron Rodgers, Steelers Over 8.5; To Make Playoffs

Aaron Rodgers hasn't taken one snap as a Steeler yet, but that hasn't stopped bettors from backing him and Pittsburgh to make some noise during the season and into the playoffs. At BetMGM, the Steelers' 8.5 is the second-most-bet Over regular-season win total. They're behind the Seahawks, whose win total is 8.5 as well. Also at the book, bettors like the Black and Yellow to earn a postseason bid. In that market, Steelers +140 to make the playoffs is second in tickets and third in handle. Could bettors' faith in Pittsburgh be because Mike Tomlin has never had a losing season as head coach or because Rodgers — the four-time MVP — is under center? Let's take a glance at a few more Steelers odds at BetMGM as of Aug. 6. Super Bowl+4000 (bet $10 to win $410 total) AFC Championship+2000 (bet $10 to win $210 total) AFC No. 1 Seed+2200 (bet $10 to win $230 total) AFC Super Bowl Winning Conference-115 (bet $10 to win $18.70 total) AFC North Division Winner+550 (bet $10 to win $65 total) AFC North Second Place+290 (bet $10 to win $39 total) Rodgers comes into his Steelers tenure after two years playing for the Jets. In his debut with New York, he tore his left Achilles tendon just four snaps into the first game of the season. Year 1 with Gang Green was over before it ever really began. In Year 2, he passed for 28 touchdowns and 3,897 yards, but the Jets missed the playoffs, finishing with a 5-12 record. Then, in February, the Jets announced they were moving on from the 10-time Pro Bowler, and in June, the Steelers announced they were signing him to a one-year deal. Will the Tomlin-Rodgers tandem spell success for the Steelers, ultimately helping bettors who've backed them to cash in? Well, according to FOX Sports NFL writer Henry McKenna, that answer is complicated. "The Steelers have plenty of talent. Coach Mike Tomlin, Rodgers, DK Metcalf, T.J. Watt, Cameron Heyward, Darius Slay and Alex Highsmith could take this team to a championship. Technically," McKenna wrote. He continued: "Rodgers is a destabilizing force set to meet his match in Tomlin, one of the NFL's steadiest leaders. But chaos wins every time. Check out Murphy's Law. "It's possible to imagine Rodgers overwhelming Tomlin. And maybe everything falls apart in Pittsburgh, leading to a total cleaning of house. That's the wild thing about Rodgers. There might be no player with greater risk. And at his age, the rewards are less obvious." Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Aug. 6 (UPI) -- One of the umpires in the Marlins-Braves series this weekend will be the first woman to umpire in a Major League Baseball game. Jen Pawol, a New Jersey native, will join the umpire team in Atlanta, where she'll work three games. On Sunday, she'll be behind home plate. She is one of 17 Triple-A umpires eligible to substitute in Major League games. "Anybody in baseball will tell you that you've just got to keep it simple, keep working hard, put your all into it and get ready for the next day," Pawol, 48, said in 2024. "That's all I think about every day -- get better before tomorrow." She has climbed the umpire ranks since starting her pro career in 2016. She reached Triple-A in 2023 and was the first woman to reach that level in 34 years. She umped behind home plate for the Triple-A Championship that year. In 2024, Pawol became the first woman umpire in a Spring Training game since Ria Cortesio in 2007. She was a Triple-A crew chief in 2024 and worked more Spring Training games in 2025. "For me, personally, I just love doing the job," Pawol said in 2016. "I'm passionate about it, and it's just part of who I am." She played softball at Hofstra University and at the Amateur Softball Association Major Fast Pitch level for 10 years before switching to umpiring. The former catcher umpired in the Big Ten Conference from 2013 to 2015. She went to the 2016 Minor League Baseball Umpire Training Academy in Vero Beach, Fla., and got her first assignment in the Gulf Coast League (now known as the Florida Complex League). Pawol was the seventh woman umpire in Minor League Baseball history. Before becoming a full-time umpire, she was an art teacher.
