Dubai, United Arab Emirates, August 2025: Travel technology is transforming the industry globally, changing the way travellers plan, book, and experience their journeys. According to a recent report by Tourism Economics on behalf of Arabian Travel Market (ATM), 60% of travellers in the UAE trust Artificial Intelligence (AI) to plan every aspect of their trips, compared to 48% of travellers in other countries, with this figure predicted to rise as technology becomes more embedded into consumer habits.
According to the report, AI is becoming a key tool for travellers planning trips to the Middle East. Nearly six in ten have used AI for travel planning, with 21% using it before their most recent trip. As AI adoption grows, it is expected to play an increasing role in delivering personalised recommendations and booking experiences for tech-savvy travellers. The research also confirmed that travel firms are harnessing AI to enhance customer service and drive economic impact.
In line with the digital transformation within travel and tourism, ATM 2025 provided a platform for experts across the technology, hospitality and events industries to discuss the implications for human connection as AI-powered tools, personalised service platforms, and data-led design become more prevalent.
Speaking during the event, Amy Read, VP Innovation at Sabre Hospitality, said: 'It is important to recognise that human connection is at the core of hospitality. When we think about innovation within hospitality, we try to find ways that amplify those key moments, rather than replace them. We want to free up staff time so that they can engage in more meaningful interactions.'
Read acknowledged that it is vital for the industry to recognise that technology has changed guests' expectations of hospitality providers as they now seek instant gratification and swift responses. This has led to the development of innovative solutions such as SynXis Concierge AI, which uses generative AI to transform customer service for hoteliers, providing immediate, detailed, and accurate responses to specific queries, reducing the reliance on individual staff knowledge and ensuring consistent, high-quality service around the clock.
Other examples include Miral's AI concierge, Majd Al, which is utilised at attractions such as Yas Bay Waterfront and Ferrari World Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. The service offers tailored suggestions based on individual preferences, helping visitors maximise their experience.
Fellow panellists agreed that human-centric innovation begins with understanding consumer behaviour, with organisations like Almosafer adopting a co-creation approach, developing tools based on customer pain points. Similarly, travel agent platform Expedia TAAP builds technology informed by insights from travel agents themselves, ensuring that its tools are aligned with customer needs and are usable.
Meanwhile, the rise of AI in the business events (MICE) sector is delivering significant gains in efficiency and insight. With the global meetings and events industry set to reach USD 945 billion in 2025 and projected to exceed USD 2.3 trillion by 2032, the need for scalable, intelligent tools has never been greater. Data-led personalisation is now critical to driving attendee engagement and loyalty, with AI helping to automate sourcing, translate content in real time, and generate tailored event experiences.
However, speakers were united in warning against over-reliance on technology at the expense of authenticity. As AI becomes central to personalising travel experiences and improving operational efficiency, it does not replace human roles but rather reshapes them, encouraging organisations to realign talent towards more meaningful, guest-focused interactions. Ultimately, as event planners and travel providers aim to create experiences that resonate, the consensus remains that human connection must stay central to every digital advancement.

BoE cuts rates to 4% but decision was less clear than expected - Middle East Business News and Information
By Daniela Sabin Hathorn, senior market analyst at The Bank of England BoE delivered its fifth rate cut in a year on Thursday, lowering the Bank Rate by 25 basis points to 4.00%. The decision reflects mounting concerns over the UK's weakening economic momentum, even as inflation remains stubbornly above target. The Monetary Policy Committee MPC vote revealed a rare and significant 5–4 split, with notable disagreement among members about the size and timing of the rate cut. One member reportedly advocated for a 50 basis point cut, prompting a second round of voting—an uncommon move that underscores the current uncertainty within the Committee. The vote split was expected to come in at 8-1. The fact that four MPC members voted to keep the rate unchanged was a lot less dovish than anticipated, prompting the pound to rise on the back of it. GBP/USD and GBP/JPY are both up 0.45% since the announcement, whilst EUR/GBP is down 0.5%. The decision to ease monetary policy further comes in response to a cooling UK economy. Recent data shows GDP has contracted over recent months, alongside rising unemployment, as labour market conditions soften. However, with inflation still above 3%, the risk of stagflation is becoming more apparent, with several policymakers showing this concern by opting to vote to keep rates unchanged. In its accompanying statement, the Bank reiterated its intention to proceed with 'a gradual and careful' easing path. Further cuts are expected to be modest, and only if economic data justifies continued loosening. Markets interpreted this as a dovish hold on future actions, with the Bank opting to retain flexibility amid competing risks. Updated Economic Projections: Growth Forecasts: GDP is now projected to expand 1.25% in 2025 and in 2026. Inflation Outlook: Price growth is not expected to return to the 2% target until early 2027, reflecting persistent structural inflationary pressures. Policy Path: the BoE's non-committal and data dependant approach has led markets to remove some of the further easing priced in for the end of 2025, with just 15bps of easing as of now.

(Nasdaq: VEON), a Dubai-headquartered global digital operator, announced its selected financial and operating results for the second quarter ending June 30, 2025. For the second quarter, VEON revenues grew 5.9% year-on-year to USD 1,087 million in reported currency (USD). In local currency terms, 2Q25 growth was 11.2% YoY, exceeding the blended weighted average inflation rate in our operating countries of 8.6% in the quarter, showcasing our ability to implement fair pricing and capturing higher consumer wallet share. VEON's revenue performance was supported by increasingly robust direct digital revenue growth, which rose by 56.6% YoY in reported currency, and by 62.4% YoY in local currency terms. Direct digital revenues comprised 16.5% of total revenues in 2Q25, up from 5.4% a year ago. EBITDA reached USD 520 million, up 13.2% year-on-year in reported currency and growing 19.6% in local currency terms. Capex, at USD 231 million for 2Q25, implies a capex intensity of 21.3% for the quarter and LTM capex intensity of 21.4% (+3.4 p.p. YoY, 18.3% excl. Ukraine) as VEON focused on enhancing network quality and supporting its digital transformation initiatives. Total cash and cash equivalents and deposits as of June 30, 2025 amounted to USD 1,283 million (including USD 326 million related to customer deposits from banking operations in Pakistan) with USD 206 million held at the HQ level. Net debt to EBITDA, excluding lease liabilities, was at 1.32x as of June 30, 2025. Outlook for 2025: VEON is revising its 2025 outlook and now expects local currency revenue growth of 13% to 15% year-on-year, and local currency EBITDA growth of 14% to 16% year-on-year. The Group's capex intensity for 2025 is expected to remain within the 17% to 19% range. VEON's third and final phase of its previously announced share buyback program, which commenced on 17 June 2025, was completed on 01 August 2025. VEON acquired 722,588 ADSs for a total consideration of US$35 million as part of this third phase of buyback. With this, VEON has completed its previously announced (01 Aug 2024) US$100 million share buyback program.
