Rothesay County Championship Division Two, Cardiff (day three)Northamptonshire 185: Procter 61; Fernando 3-28, Gorvin 3-36 & 304: Zaib 71, McManus 66, Procter 56; Fernando 3-42, Harris 3-99Glamorgan 424: Kellaway 95, Northeast 67, Van der Gugten 61, Carlson 54; Broad 3-82, Conway 3-99& 66-2: Tribe 32*, Northeast 27*; Sanderson 2-14Glamorgan (23 pts) beat Northamptonshire (3 pts) by eight wickets standing
Glamorgan completed a three-day win by eight wickets over Northants, taking the extra half-hour to seal the result after some dogged Northants defiance.Saif Zaib top-scored with 71 while there was lengthy resistance from Luke Procter (56) and Lewis McManus (66).Asitha Fernando and James Harris took three wickets apiece each as Northants were finally dismissed for 304, having been 239 behind.Glamorgan needed 66 to win in 12 overs of normal play, but Ben Sanderson claimed two quick wickets including Australian Test batter Marnus Labuschagne for just four.Asa Tribe and Sam Northeast steadied the ship and steered Glamorgan to a second successive victory after a poor start to the season while Northants were left to ponder their top-order struggles.
Northants fought hard throughout day three after starting 190 runs behind with three wickets already down.Captain Procter again dug in, but it was James Sales who dominated the stand of 53 as he took three boundaries in an over off the usually economical Timm van der Gugten.Sales, on 35, edged through to Chris Cooke in the Netherlands international's next over and Rob Keogh, in sketchy form, made a nervy start before edging Fernando behind for six to leave them 108-5.Zaib started brightly, lofting a couple of leg-side sixes while Procter ground on conscientiously, but the skipper's vigil was ended by Fernando switching angles and giving Cooke his third catch of the day.Another obdurate 50 stand followed between Zaib and Lewis McManus but Zaib edged James Harris to Sam Northeast at slip with the visitors still 17 in arrears, and Justin Broad chipped Van der Gugten's first delivery with the new ball to mid-wicket.McManus, Ben Sanderson and Harry Conway added 74 for the last two wickets before Harris and Fernando finished them off, courtesy of fine catches from Kiran Carlson and Cooke again.A target of 66 looked modest but Sanderson had other ideas as he had Zain Ul Hassan caught behind for two.Labuschagne got off a pair first ball, clipped his second just short of mid-wicket and was close to lbw on his third, before Sanderson found a thick edge and the Australian was left to bemoan a rare double failure. Tribe and Northeast calmly reduced the target to 26 by the end of the day's scheduled overs, and the umpires sensibly gave them the chance to finish it.Glamorgan have another home fixture to finish the Championship block against Middlesex on Friday 23 May, while Northants host Gloucestershire on the same day.

Red Bull's Lindblad granted F1 licence ahead of 18th birthday
LONDON, June 10 (Reuters) - Formula One's governing body has granted Red Bull junior driver Arvid Lindblad a super licence ahead of his 18th birthday in August after the team requested a dispensation. Formula One rules say drivers must be over 18, a measure introduced after Red Bull's now four-times world champion Max Verstappen was signed by Toro Rosso at 16 and made his race debut at 17 in 2015. Lindblad, born in Britain to a Swedish father and mother of Indian heritage, is seen as a hot prospect and the exemption will allow him to take part in F1 practice ahead of the August break. He has been tipped for an eventual seat at Racing Bulls, Red Bull's Italy-based sister team who currently have Frenchman Isack Hadjar and New Zealand's Liam Lawson. Hadjar has impressed in his rookie season, with speculation he could be next to move up to the senior team alongside Verstappen if Yuki Tsunoda is not retained. Verstappen is also only a penalty point away from a one-race ban, meaning Red Bull need to be prepared to shuffle around drivers. Lindblad, third overall in the Formula Two championship, already has enough points for a super licence with age his only barrier. The governing FIA's World Motor Sport Council, granting the request at a meeting in Macau, said Lindblad had "recently and consistently demonstrated outstanding ability and maturity in single-seater formula car competition". Mercedes were in a similar position with Kimi Antonelli last year but waited until he was 18, also in August, before giving him a practice debut. The Italian this season took the seat vacated by seven times world champion Lewis Hamilton.

Wales fan fell from third tier of stadium during Belgium game
A fan who had been at the game reportedly told BBC Radio Wales that just after Wales' third goal, a "loud thud" was heard and there had been "huge commotion in the lower tier". The fan said: "Police, stewards, paramedics rushed into that area and three, four rows were cordoned off. "Word got around quickly that a Wales fan had fallen from the front of the top tier into the lower tier of the stadium and had landed, had sort of clipped some fans as he fell. "The next sort of 15 minutes the paramedics were treating the man and eventually they took him out on a stretcher and brought an ambulance to the back of the concourse, blue lights flashing from where he was taken to hospital after the game. "Everyone's relieved to know that the man who fell is ok." Scott Rees fell from the upper tier into the lower tier at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels. Mr Rees has since confirmed via social media that he is okay, posting on Facebook: "I'm fine. I fell from the top tier and only broken a small bone in my back. Hope everyone had a good night." The incident was not captured on TV during the match, which Craig Bellamy's side dramatically lost 4-3 having come back to 3-3 from being 3-0 down inside the opening 27 minutes. A statement from the Football Association of Wales said at the time: "We can confirm that one male fan fell from the upper to lower tier during the match at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels this [Monday] evening. "He was conscious and speaking and has now been taken to hospital for further checks." A further statement provided on Tuesday morning said: "We can confirm the fan has been discharged from hospital with minor injuries, and will be travelling home soon." Wales clawed back from 3-0 down to draw level in a match blighted by lengthy VAR checks before Kevin De Bruyne broke the visitors' hearts by sealing a late 4-3 win for the hosts. The defeat meant Wales were knocked off the top of World Cup qualifying group J by North Macedonia, following their 1-0 win in Kazakhstan. Wales suffered a dramatic 4-3 World Cup qualifying defeat to Belgium as their incredible comeback from three goals down eventually proved in vain. Kevin De Bruyne was the Belgium match-winner two minutes from time to deny Wales a precious point in Brussels. Belgium had seized complete control inside 27 minutes as Romelu Lukaku, with a controversial penalty, Youri Tielemans and Jeremy Doku silenced the loud 4,500-strong following from Wales. But Harry Wilson gave Wales hope from the spot on the stroke of half-time, and cool finishes from Sorba Thomas and Brennan Johnson turned the tie on its head. Almost every goal had a laborious VAR check and a late Lukaku effort was chalked off – resulting in both Wales manager Craig Bellamy and his Belgium counterpart Rudi Garcia being booked – but there was no saving the visitors as De Bruyne volleyed home at the far post. Wales had lost top spot in Group J before kick-off courtesy of North Macedonia's win in Kazakhstan. Bellamy's unbeaten record would also disappear – exactly a year to the day since Wales had lost for the last time – in his 10th game in charge. It was a duel between familiar foes with this being their 11th meeting in 13 years.
