Odisha: STA warns against fake RTO job ads
The STA said it has come to its notice that fake advertisements are being posted on social media and some websites regarding jobs in various posts in the RTOs. Many innocent job-seekers are getting cheated through this scam for which citizens are advised not to believe in such advertisements.
'Any genuine advertisement regarding jobs is published only through the official process of the state government, said the STA, advising citizens to not click the links of such advertisements on WhatsApp.
In another development, STA advised the kanwariyas (devotees of Lord Shiva) visiting different temples across the state during Shravana month to walk carefully on the roads to avoid any accident.

Fake Parivahan app: Kochi cyber police arrest two from Varanasi
The cyber wing of the Kochi City police arrested two persons who were allegedly involved in cheating people through a fake Parivahan application. The accused, Uttar Pradesh natives Atul Kumar Singh, 32, and Manish Yadav, 24, reportedly sent fake files via WhatsApp and managed to make people believe that it was for enabling paying of fines for traffic-rule violations. The accused were arrested by the cyber police in an operation conducted at Varanasi after a Kochi resident submitted a complaint stating that he was duped of ₹85,000 through a fake Parivahan link. On inspection of their phones, the police recovered information on over 2,700 vehicles from Kerala, Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.

Online fraud by fake Parivahan software: Kerala police arrests gang in UP
Last Updated: Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 20 (PTI) The Kochi Cyber Crime Police Division has arrested a gang in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, for committing online fraud across the nation using fake Parivahan software, officials said on Sunday. They arrested UP natives Atul Kumar Singh (32) and Manish Yadav (24) who were allegedly committing fraud by sending fake Android Package Kit (APK) files through WhatsApp to their targets under the pretext of demanding payment of vehicular fines, a State Police Media Centre (SPMC) release said. APK files are used to install mobile apps. The accused collected the vehicle details through a Telegram bot, the release said. The brain behind the creation of the fake APK was a 16-year-old relative of Yadav, it said. The police action was taken following a complaint registered on the National Cyber Reporting Platform (NCRP) by an Ernakulam native claiming that he was duped of Rs 85,000 through the fake Parivahan software. The accused were arrested by a police team comprising Inspector Shameer Khan, and officers Arun, Ajith Raj, Nikhil George, Alfit Andrews and Sharafuddin based on digital evidence, the release said. Details of more than 2,700 vehicles from various states, including Kerala, Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, were found on the two accused's phones, it said. Complaint against fake investment firm misusing name of Premji Invest
The Cybercrime police, east division, have registered an FIR against unknown persons for allegedly launching a fake investment website in the name of Premji Invest, misusing the details of the company to cheat gullible investors. There was also an android app named PREMJIEX on Google Playstore and several WhatsApp groups under the same name, which is suspected to be created by the same fraudsters. The admins of these WhatsApp groups have misused the photographs of the management personnel of Premji Investment Advisory LLP, which were available on public domain. According to the complaint, Premji Investment Advisory LLP is the entity responsible for managing the private investments of Azim Premji, and it does not provide any manner of investment advisory to the general public at large, and it is only concerned with its group and affiliated entities. Premji Investment Advisory LLP does not have any social media presence either in its name or under its trade name of Premji Invest, barring a profile on Linkedin. The fraud came to light last month that unknown miscreants have created a website under the domain misusing the trade name Premji Invest. A probe revealed that the accused have been charging money from unsuspecting third parties on the pretext of providing stock market tips and advisory by taking advantage of the reputation Premji Invest. 'They go insofar as to claim that every transaction conducted on the website would contribute some money to the Azim Premji Foundation. They have also published the registration number belonging to the Premji Investment Advisory,' the complaint said. It said that the app on the playstore had a sub-text 'Gujarat Digital' owned by Vishal Ghanshyam, a lead being probed by the police. Efforts are on to track down the miscreants, the police said.
