Two minors & scrap dealer accused of battery thefts arrested
Indore: Kishanganj police on Wednesday arrested two minors allegedly involved in a series of battery thefts, along with a scrap dealer, who purchased the stolen items. The minors were stealing batteries from tractors and other vehicles parked in isolated farmlands or deserted areas and selling them to a local scrap trader at low prices. A case was registered under section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and an investigation was taken up by the station team. With the help of the local intelligence network, the police traced and detained two minors, who during questioning confessed to stealing the batteries. They revealed that the stolen items were sold to Mohammad Rafiq, a scrap trader residing near Karondiya Chaupati. Based on the information provided, police detained Rafiq, who admitted to purchasing the stolen batteries. He disclosed that the batteries were being resold for Rs 3000. Following his confession, police recovered two stolen batteries worth approximately Rs 20,000, along with Rs 3000 from the transaction.

Ludhiana NRI alleges theft of passport, gold ahead of Dubai flight; domestic help booked.
Ludhiana: A non-resident Indian woman preparing to return to Dubai has alleged that her domestic help stole a purse containing gold jewellery, foreign currency, ₹30,000 in cash, and her passport from her home in Rajguru Nagar Extension. Police said Veena Kaushal, 69, filed a complaint with the Sarabha Nagar police, leading to an FIR against the domestic worker, Sangeeta, under Section 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Assistant Sub-Inspector Harbhol Singh, who is investigating the case, said Kaushal had recently arrived in Ludhiana to visit her property, which she shares with two tenants. On July 31, she brought valuables, including her passport and cash, from her bank locker and kept them in a purse near her bed. Kaushal claimed the purse later went missing and suspected Sangeeta, her domestic help, of theft. However, police confirmed the accused has not fled and remains at the house. A search of her residence yielded no stolen items. "We are investigating all possible angles," said Singh. "Both tenants are being questioned. One had gone out on July 26, while the other was present in the house." Kaushal is now working to secure a replacement passport in time for her scheduled August 8 flight.

Woman exposes pension fraud by mother-in-law
Ahmedabad: A widow pension fraud was uncovered in Maninagar after a woman filed a complaint against her mother-in-law with the govt authorities, alleging that she had been receiving govt pension by providing false income details. After an investigation, the mamlatdar office filed an FIR at Karanj police station on Wednesday. The woman has been accused of forging income details and violating the terms of the Ganga Swarupa Widow Pension Scheme. According to the FIR, the woman submitted an affidavit on Feb 1, 2022, declaring her family's annual income as Rs 1,20,000. She began receiving Rs 1,250 per month under the widow pension scheme. However, during an inquiry by revenue officials, it was found that her family's actual annual income was around Rs 3 lakh, and she also owned property worth Rs 40 lakh.
