Dominick Reyes: Jon Jones not happy that people 'forever are going to say' he didn't beat me
MIAMI – Dominick Reyes and Jon Jones continue to go back-and-forth on their competitive title fight in 2020.
Reyes (14-4 MMA, 8-4 UFC) gave Jones arguably his toughest test to date when he lost a controversial decision in their light heavyweight title fight at UFC 247. Reyes is still adamant that he was robbed, and hasn't hesitated to mention that whenever he's asked during his media obligations.
UFC heavyweight champion Jones (28-1 MMA, 22-1 UFC) is tired of hearing that narrative, firing back at Reyes on numerous occasions, most recently when Reyes claimed he's both mentally and physically stronger than him. Jones mocked Reyes by saying that he would perhaps have a chance to beat him in a rock, paper, scissors contest.
But no matter what Jones says, Reyes is confident that the majority think he should have gotten his hand raised that night.
'In regards to Jon Jones, we're locked in this moment of time, in history, forever – whether he likes it or not,' Reyes told MMA Junkie and other reporters Wednesday at UFC 314 media day. 'That's just the bottom line.
It was a legendary fight. It'll go down in history as a legendary performance by myself, and he's not happy that people forever are going to say that he didn't win that fight. Whatever he has to say is what he has to say, but I know who I am, what I am, and what happened, and that's the end of that.'
Since losing to Jones, Reyes has struggled. He went on to lose another three fights in a row, before getting back on track with back-to-back knockouts of Dusitn Jacoby and Anthony Smith. He returns against Nikita Krylov (29-9 MMA, 11-7 UFC) in Saturday's UFC 314 main card opener from Kaseya Center (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+).

Report: Colts' QB Daniel Jones 'taking advantage' of reps during minicamp Indianapolis Colts' QB Daniel Jones is reportedly capitalizing on the additional reps he is getting in minicamp. Through the first two days of minicamp practices for the Indianapolis Colts, quarterback Daniel Jones has taken advantage of the additional opportunities that have come his way, according to ESPN's Stephen Holder. "Quarterback Daniel Jones is taking advantage of Anthony Richardson Sr.'s absence during the Colts' three-day camp, making several notable throws Wednesday to get the ball to his ample cast of offensive playmakers," wrote Holder. The starting quarterback reps throughout offseason programs and into training camp were supposed to be split between Jones and Anthony Richardson. Unfortunately, Richardson is sidelined this week after aggravating his shoulder, the same one that he injured during the 2023 season. Shane Steichen confirmed on Tuesday that Richardson did get another opinion on his shoulder with Neal ElAttrache, who was the surgeon who performed the original surgery. There is no specific timeline for Richardson's return, but Steichen has said they hope to have him back for training camp. That means that Jones is getting "a lot of the reps going forward," as Steichen put it. For a quarterback who is still learning a new system, the additional reps that he's now getting are presumably helping to expedite that learning process that comes with being in a different scheme. 'He's been great. … Acclimating to the offense, learning it, the system. Obviously, a smart guy, understands it, he's picked it up,' Steichen said of Jones, via the Indy Star. 'He's a veteran guy that comes in early, late nights, does all the right things.' There isn't a timetable that Steichen has for when he wants to name the starting quarterback for Week 1. Ultimatley, he just wants to find the most consistent performer. Regardless of how Jones performs during these three days of minicamp, it isn't going to decide whether he's the starter to begin the season or not. However, it does give him the upper hand in that competition. This isn't to say that Richardson still can't go out and win the job, but with missing most of OTAs, all of minicamp, and need a ramp up period whenever he does return to the practice field, time won't be on this side, and he'll have to make up ground quickly.
