Himachal Pradesh Police deliver major blow to drug trade, attach properties worth Rs 2.65 cr
According to a release from the Office of the Director General of Police, Himachal Pradesh, in the first case, Kangra Police initiated the seizure proceeding of property worth Rs 1,59 crore from the accused, from whom 1.246 kilograms of charas were recovered in Dharmsala. The accused, identified as Sanjay Kumar, had a history of previous cases under the NDPS Act and IPC.
The accused had accumulated illegal wealth, including three residential houses valued at Rs 1,55,03,700, and four vehicles.
The Kangra Police will also attach property worth Rs 1.06 crores in a case relating to the seizure of 241 grams of gold, 1207 grams of silver jewellery, and Rs 44,580 in cash on April 11, 2024. The police had also arrested the accused, Pawan Kumar, and his wife, Neena.
Pawan Kumar also has five previous NDPS cases against him. Investigation revealed that the accused owned residential houses in villages Arla, Sakot, and Tarsuh, with a combined estimated value of Rs 81,45,267. His movable assets (jewellery and cash) were valued at Rs 24,67,800. The total value of his property stands at Rs 1.06 crores.
In a previous successful action, Kangra Police had already seized property worth Rs 51 lakhs from another known drug peddler.
These decisive actions demonstrate Himachal Police's continued commitment to dismantling the financial backbone of drug traffickers and bringing such cases to their logical conclusion, the release stated.
Earlier on May 19, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu virtually presided over a meeting with district officers of Hamirpur from Shimla to review the progress of various developmental projects in the district. He directed the officials to expedite ongoing works to ensure their timely completion. (ANI)

BENGALURU: In a new shift in modus operandi, criminals are using magazines and comic books as camouflage to smuggle contraband drugs on transnational routes to escape detection and hoodwink law enforcers. On July 18, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Bengaluru Zonal Unit (BZU) intercepted an Indian male passenger, who arrived in Bengaluru from Doha at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in the early hours of Friday. The officers found that he was carrying in his baggage two superhero comics/ magazines which were 'unusually heavy. They recovered white powder concealed in the coverside of the magazine. The powder tested positive for cocaine,' said sources. 'The recovered cocaine weighing 4,006 grams (over 4 kg) and having an international market value of around Rs 40 crore was seized. The passenger, originally from Delhi was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985,' added sources. 'The contraband drug was meant for consumption in Bengaluru city,' said sources on condition of anonymity. The accused was produced before the special court and remanded to judicial custody the same day. The DRI since April has seized 30-40 kgs of methamphetamine (crystal meth) from Bengaluru city. In March the DRI seized three kg of cocaine at KIA. The Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB) and police have also seized huge quantities of contraband drugs, especially meth.

SpiceJet Flight Cancelled After Delay And Sunset Restriction At Darbhanga Airport, Passengers Stranded
The SpiceJet Flight SG447, which was scheduled to travel from Darbhanga to Delhi on Saturday morning, was cancelled due to technical issues and sunset restrictions at the airport. The passengers of the flight were reportedly left stranded after the cancellation. According to sources cited by ANI, the flight, which was originally set to depart at around 11:40 am, was initially delayed due to technical issues with the aircraft. Later, SpiceJet arranged a replacement aircraft to carry the passengers to Delhi. ANI quoted the sources as saying, "The flight, originally set to depart around 11:40 am, was initially delayed due to technical reasons with the aircraft. The aircraft was unable to operate as planned. SpiceJet then arranged a replacement aircraft to carry the passengers to Delhi." Darbhanga airport, which operates as a defence airport, enforces a strict sunset restriction on civil flight movements, the sources said. Furthermore, the replacement aircraft that eventually reached Darbhanga arrived too late to obtain the necessary clearance for departure before sunset. Subsequently, the flight was unable to take off and was cancelled, the ANI sources continued. SpiceJet assured that alternative arrangements were made for the stranded passengers to travel to Delhi on Sunday. SpiceJet Flight Cancel Earlier, a SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Mumbai handed over two passengers to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) for their unruly behaviour after they attempted to approach the cockpit while the aircraft was taxiing forcefully. The incident was of flight SG 9282, before its take-off, and despite the cabin crew and the Captain's repeated warnings, the individuals refused to return to their seats and created a disruption onboard. The two passengers were removed from the flight and handed over to the CISF. "In the interest of the safety of all passengers and crew, the Captain decided to return the aircraft to the bay," the airline had said.

Fugitive in Delhi jewellery heist arrested after month-long manhunt
A 22-year-old fugitive wanted in connection with a violent armed robbery in North West Delhi's Subhash Place area has been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police, authorities said Saturday. The suspect, identified as Shivam, had been evading capture since June 12, when he and two others allegedly stabbed a jewellery salesman and fled with gold and silver ornaments worth more than Rs 50 lakh. Police said Shivam was apprehended near Sati Nagar in Agra following surveillance and targeted raids. A case was registered under sections 309(4), 309(6), 317(2), 311, 3(5), and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, officials said. One of the accused, Jitender, was arrested shortly after the incident, along with two alleged co-conspirators, Vijay Kumar and Vishal Sain. Shivam, however, managed to escape and remained on the run for over a month. The breakthrough came after Head Constable Raj Aryan received a tip-off about Shivam's possible location. 'Raids were conducted at all possible hideouts of the accused. Activities of all the friends and relatives of the accused were monitored covertly,' said DCP (Crime) Harsh Indora. 'Based on technical surveillance and local intelligence gathered by HC Raj Aryan and his team, it was established that the accused Shivam can be found near Sati Nagar in Agra. The team laid a trap near Sati Nagar and nabbed the accused. He confessed about his involvement in the aforesaid case of armed robbery and thus was arrested under Section 35.1(c) of the BNSS,' Indora added. During questioning, Shivam allegedly admitted that he turned to crime following the death of his father, which had plunged his family into financial crisis. Though he had previously worked as an air conditioning technician and at a clothing store in Rohini, police said his income was insufficient. According to the officials, he claimed he was introduced to crime by a neighbour named Kayam and later joined Jitender and others to plan the heist, driven by the allure of quick money and a more comfortable life.
