Set in the fictional halls of St. Gertrude's Hospital School of Nursing, affectionately but forbiddenly nicknamed 'St. Trudy's,' Sadlowski's memoir-style novel tracks the bumpy, absurd and ultimately uplifting journey of Hope Sarnecki, a wide-eyed freshman from Cleveland with nothing but a scholarship and a shaky grasp on anatomy.
With a voice that's part dry wit, part wounded heart and all real, Hope leads readers through bed baths, rectal thermometer mishaps, explosive dehiscence wounds, pediatric heartbreaks and, yes, a 3.2-beer-fueled night at 'The Libido Lounge.' The cast of characters, from the quietly rebellious Aggie Vespey to the smirking, steel-haired Miss Burns, are as vivid as the chemical burns from cleaning agents in the charity ward.
'It's not 'Grey's Anatomy.' It's grayer, grittier and funnier,' says the author. 'This was a time when nursing students were expected to be nuns in disguise: celibate, cheerful and tough as nails. I had to tell this story with all the humor and heartbreak intact.'
Sadlowski doesn't shy away from tough subjects. The book captures the silent pain of racial inequality, the trauma of pediatric oncology and the emotional minefields of growing up female in a world that often expects obedience over opinion. But what stands out most is the camaraderie, the late-night whispering, the practical jokes and the group smoke breaks between breakdowns. 'St. Trudy's School of Nursing' is as much about friendship as it is about medicine.
Readers who loved 'Call the Midwife' or 'The Bell Jar' will find themselves laughing and crying in equal measure.

He's in the house. Jack McBrayer, best known for playing the cheerful page Kenneth Parcell on '30 Rock,' returns to host Season 2 of the reality show 'Zillow Gone Wild.' 'In Season 2, I think HGTV was allowing us to see more expensive properties. So, we're seeing houses where people could take bigger risks and bigger swings,' McBrayer, 52, exclusively told The Post, noting that one former co-star, in particular, would be great on the series. The Summer I Turned Pretty Cast Compete In Cast Wars
It's not summer without The Summer I Turned Pretty. The highly anticipated final season of Jenny Han's beloved series has arrived, and we are so excited to spend one final summer at Cousins Beach. Based on Han's third book in the trilogy, The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 begins with Belly in a long-term relationship with Jeremiah. As they grow up and their lives start to get more complicated, Belly must decide if Jeremiah really is "the one," or if Conrad still has her heart. The much-discussed love triangle all comes to a head this season as Belly makes her final decision on who she's meant to be with. So to celebrate, we had the cast — Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, Gavin Casalegno, Sean Kaufman, Rain Spencer, Jackie Chung, and Tom Everett Scott — compete in a friendly game of Cast Wars to see who knows who the absolute best. And let's just say, things got hilariously competitive between the two teams. Like, I'm cackling at how into it Lola got. We tested their knowledge on some of their costars' earliest acting roles, like when Jackie appeared in an episode of Grey's Anatomy or when Gavin appeared in The Vampire Diaries. And we got into the JHU (Jenny Han Universe) when one team had to guess how many letters Lara Jean wrote in To All the Boys I've Loved Before. Plus, since this is TSITP, we had to ask about favorite rom-coms, iconic love triangles, and more. The whole thing was so hilariously chaotic that it's become a comfort video of mine now.
