Summerside woman dies in 2-vehicle crash in Wellington Centre, P.E.I.
East Prince RCMP said in a news release they received a 911 call about the crash at about 3:30 p.m. When officers arrived, Island EMS and the Miscouche Fire Department were already on the scene.
Both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles, which were severely damaged.
Paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene. The other driver suffered serious injuries. Firefighters had to extract him from his vehicle, and he was taken to Prince County Hospital for treatment.
"At this time, it appears one of the vehicles swerved into oncoming traffic. Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the collision; however, the investigation is ongoing," the release read.
An RCMP collision analyst and a provincial coroner also attended the scene.

Orange County pursuit ends when driver loses control, crashes after blowing tire in pickup truck
A wild pursuit through Southern California came to a sudden end on Saturday night when the driver of a pickup truck lost control and smashed into another vehicle in Norwalk. The pursuit began around 9 p.m. near the 405 and 605 Freeway interchange, which is about where Orange County and Los Angeles County meet. The California Highway Patrol said the chase was initiated by a law enforcement agency in the OC before being transferred to the CHP. The pursuit of a red pickup truck continued into L.A. County. The want was originally for weaving, the CHP said. When SKYCal located the vehicle around 9:36 p.m., the front driver-side tire was clearly blown out, as a large trail of sparks followed the speeding truck. Eventually, the driver turned onto Imperial Highway in Norwalk, where he continued driving at a high rate of speed. At about 9:37 p.m., the driver lost control and the truck spun into the back of a sedan that was waiting at a red light. The sedan's airbags clearly deployed upon collision. Two people were seen walking away from the vehicle while speaking to officers, appearing to be OK. The red truck spun onto the road's center median in the area of Imperial Highway and Studebaker Road. The driver exited through a window and began walking away from officers, but they quickly tackled him and took him into custody. It's not clear if the driver was armed during the chase. No additional details were immediately made available.

Colorado 5-year-old returns home, still recovering after hit-and-run
A five-year-old boy from Colorado is back home after he was hit by a car in a crosswalk near Promenade Parkway and Castlegate Drive in Castle Rock. The boy's mom, Amani Willis, says he was on his bike when a car came across the crosswalk and hit him. Willis was taking her son, Zaiden Martin, to get ice cream the evening of Saturday, July 12th, to celebrate a milestone. "He read his first chapter book," said Willis. "He worked hard, he sounded out all the words, and it was a third-grade level book. So that's why I'm like, okay, you deserve some ice cream." What should have been a celebratory evening quickly took a turn when Zaiden was hit, despite their efforts to safely cross. "We pressed the button, so the lights were flashing to indicate there's a pedestrian walking." Zaiden was rushed to Children's Hospital Colorado with a fractured skull and bleeding and bruising on his brain. "It was definitely the worst moment, days of hopefully the rest of my life," said Willis. After spending a week in the hospital, Zaiden left on Saturday in high spirits. "He was unconscious, he was sedated, he was intubated, breathing from a breathing machine. Now he's smiling, he's making jokes. He's being silly," Willis said. And he was still eager to get that ice cream. "He's getting ice cream tonight, whatever he wants, and pizza," shared Willis. While there's now a lot to celebrate, Zaiden is still battling blood clots in his brain and has a long road ahead to a full recovery. Aside from his health, his mom is hoping for an apology from the person who fled. "He's the most empathetic little boy that I've ever met, and it's hard knowing that the person who did this to him didn't check on him, hasn't seen if he's okay, hasn't apologized, hasn't done any of that," Willis said. The Castle Rock Police Department confirmed the driver of the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run has been identified, but due to an ongoing investigation, they could not provide any additional information.
