New Delhi: Multiple hydro-power projects with an investment of over Rs 1 lakh crore are underway in Arunachal Pradesh to produce 18,000 MW of power, chief minister Pema Khandu has said.
Five of these projects of 2,620 MW have been allocated by the state govt to the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd (NEEPCO), five projects of 5,097 MW to Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd (SJVN) and two projects with a capacity of 3,800 MW to the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation.
"As of now, on the ground, the work for generating a total of 18,000 MW of hydro-power is on. In the coming days, we will add more projects.
All these projects involved more than Rs 1 lakh crore investment," Khandu told PTI in an interview here.
He said these projects were earlier allotted to private sector developers but remained non-starters due to various reasons. Arunachal Pradesh govt, therefore, decided to rope in central hydro PSUs to give a push to the languishing projects.
"These projects remained on paper only as the developers did not take an initiative.

After I became the chief minister, I reviewed all the projects and cancelled them. I have conveyed to the central govt that a hydro power project means big investment. Private companies are not in a position to execute them. Only the Govt of India should take the initiative," he said.
The chief minister said the state govt held a meeting with the Prime Minister and, after that, zeroed in on central PSUs — NHPC, NEEPCO and SJVN — and signed agreements basin-wise.
He said wherever there were immediate doable projects, the state govt signed the MoUs for the development of 13,000 MWs last year.
"Besides these, there are some ongoing projects like the Lower Subansiri hydro-electric project of 2,000 MW. It will start generating power from next year. There is one more project which is even bigger than the Lower Subansiri — that will produce 2880 MW power. Work on this project has also started," he said.
Once operational, the Lower Subansiri hydro-power project will be the biggest hydropower plant of India.
After that, the proposed 2,880 MW Dibang multipurpose hydroelectric project is expected to be commissioned in 2032. It will also have the tallest dam in India with a height of about 288 metres.

Sambhajinagar police nabinvestment scam ringleader

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: In a major breakthrough in the several crore LFS investment fraud, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the city police arrested Dilipkumar Maiti, director of LFS Share Broking Company, from Kolkata on Friday. The arrest is linked to a pan-India scam where over 6,000 investors were defrauded with false promises of high returns. According to the police, the company lured investors by offering returns ranging from 20% to 36% and swindled them out of over Rs 1,000 crore. Maiti, previously in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for separate financial offences, was handed over to city police on July 17 and was remanded in their custody till July 22. In Maharashtra, the scam caused a loss of Rs 35 crore, including Rs 3 crore from city-based investors. The city police registered a case in Feb this year, acting on a complaint filed by investors who were duped by company agents Vinod Mane and Vinod Salve. The EOW previously arrested another company director, Syed Ziajur Rehman, in connection with the case. Police authorities said, "The EOW will seek formal approval to seize and auction properties owned by the accused outside Maharashtra. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You To Read in 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo We identified 16 properties linked to Maiti and co-accused Anarul Hussaini. Waive off dues accruing out of CAPF deployment: CM to Shah

Ranchi: Chief minister Hemant Soren on Friday urged Union home minister Amit Shah waive off Centre's dues, amounting to Rs 13,299.69 crore, which has accumulated in lieu of deployment of Central Reserve Police Force ( CRPF ) in Jharkhand for anti-extremist operations over the years. Notably, the centre has asked the state to pay the amount which has accrued since CRPF was deployed by centre for the operations in Jharkhand. A statement issued by the state information and public relations department late on Friday night said, "The CM in his letter urged the dues to be waived off as its payment would cause a financial burden on limited resources of the state and would affect implementation of development schemes." At present, 14 battalions of central paramilitary forces including nine of CRPF, two of CoBRA and three of Seema Suraksha Bal are deployed in anti-extremist operations in Jharkhand. The development comes after Shah chaired a meeting of the Eastern Zonal Council in Ranchi earlier this month and declared the Jharkhand, along with several other of its neighbouring states, had become largely free of Naxalism. Soren said the state govt is tackling disasters and implementing social welfare schemes successfully after the Covid-19 pandemic. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "Jharkhand has been one of the states to be affected the most by left wing extremism and eradicating it from its roots is a shared responsibility of the Centre and state," he was quoted as mentioning in his letter. Soren further said that the state police, along with CRPF deployed by Centre, is carrying out anti-extremist operations. Their activities have significantly reduced, and 400 police personnel were killed in the operations. "In such a backdrop, necessary steps should be taken under the principle of cooperative federalism to waive off the retention charges for deployment of central armed police force to carry out anti-extremist operations," the CM wrote.
