AAIB
's appeal asking everyone to refrain from speculations.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) on Thursday said it is too early to draw any "definite conclusions" on what led to the Air India plane crash as the probe is still on and that the final report will come out with the root causes, while it urged everyone to refrain from spreading premature narratives.

The Airline Pilots' Association of India (ALPA India) has been requesting authorities to include it in the investigation.
In keeping with the global best practices and ICAO Annex 13, ALPA India on Friday said pilot associations can be permitted to assist in investigations as technical advisers.

"These paragraphs allow the state conducting the investigation to include advisers nominated by accredited representatives, provided they possess suitable qualifications. In many countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, pilot unions and associations routinely participate in this capacity.
"ALPA India once again renews its request to be included as an observer in the ongoing investigation of VT-ANB, to contribute professionally and help strengthen the safety framework of Indian aviation," it said in a statement.
The association also thanked AAIB for addressing public concerns and making a much-needed appeal to the media and public to refrain from speculation, premature conclusions, or unverified narratives while the investigation is ongoing.
ALPA India emphasised that such accidents must be investigated with utmost diligence, transparency and impartiality. It is a member of the International Federation of Airline Pilots' Association (IFALPA).
AAIB, on Thursday, appealed to all concerned to await publication of the final investigation report and said this is not the time to create public anxiety or angst towards the safety of the Indian aviation industry, particularly on the basis of unfounded facts.

Uttarkashi chopper crash: Main rotor blade struck overhead cable, pilot tried to land, says AAIB report
Uttarkashi helicopter crash updates: Over two months after a helicopter with seven people on board crashed while on its way towards Gangotri Dham from Dehradun, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) on Saturday issued a preliminary report. The accident took place on May 8 near Gangnani in Uttarkashi. While further inquiry is on, the AAIB said the helicopter's main rotor blade struck an overhead fibre cable running parallel to the road, leading to the crash. As many as six people, including the pilot, was killed in the crash while one of the passengers sustained serious injuries. Preliminary Report on VT-OXF by on Scribd 📌On May 8, the helicopter took-off at 5.39 hours IST from Sahastradhara helipad. It was a dual pilot operation. Two pilots (including the examiner pilot) and three passengers were on board. 📌The helicopter landed back at the Sahastradhara helipad at 6:56 hours. The hill familiarization check flight was uneventful and no defect was reported by the pilots. 📌The helicopter's next flight was scheduled from the Sahastradhara helipad to Kharsali helipad, then to Jhala helipad and then finally to Phata Lower Jamu helipad. The purpose of the flight was Charter flying for Char Dham Yatra. 📌Prior to departure the preflight inspection was carried out by an authorised company. 📌 The helicopter lifted off at 7.45 am from Sahastradhara helipad for Kharsali helipad with six passengers on board. 📌 The helicopter landed at Kharsali helipad and offloaded all onboard passengers and their luggage. Subsequently, a new group of six passengers boarded the helicopter for Jhala Helipad and it took off at 8.11 am. 📌 The helicopter flew for 20 minutes before descending from its assigned altitude. 📌 The pilot tried to land on the Uttarkashi–Gangotri Road (NH 34), near Gangnani in Uttarkashi but the helicopter's main rotor blade struck an overhead fibre cable running parallel to the road and also damaged some roadside metallic barricades. 📌 The helicopter was unable to land on the highway and tumbled down the hillside. Eventually, it came to a halt after hitting a tree, approximately 250 feet deep into a gorge. 📌 The last Airworthiness Review Certificate (ARC) was issued on October 11, 2024, and is valid up to Oct 10, 2025.

Main rotor hit overhead cable during emergency landing, says AAIB preliminary report on Uttarkashi helicopter crash
A helicopter crash that claimed six lives near Gangnani in Uttarkashi district on May 8 was caused by a collision with an overhead fiber cable during an attempted emergency landing, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) said in its preliminary report released this week. The BELL 407 helicopter, operated by Aerotrans Services Pvt Ltd., was flying on a Char Dham Yatra charter route when it descended from its assigned altitude and attempted an emergency landing on National Highway 34. According to the AAIB, the aircraft's main rotor blade struck a fiber cable running parallel to the road, causing the helicopter to veer off course, hit roadside barricades, and tumble roughly 250 feet down a hillside before coming to rest against a tree. The pilot and five passengers were killed in the crash. One passenger sustained serious injuries. Notably, there was no post-impact fire, although the aircraft was destroyed, AAIB said in its prelim report. The helicopter had departed Sahastradhara helipad at 7:45 a.m. and made a scheduled stop at Kharsali, where a new group of six pilgrims boarded for the next leg to Jhala. It took off again at 8:11 a.m. The crash occurred approximately 20 minutes later, as the aircraft approached the Uttarkashi-Gangotri stretch near 59-year-old pilot, with over 6,160 hours of flying time, was operating the flight alone. Records show he held a valid Airline Transport Pilot License and medical certification. Pre-flight inspections were conducted earlier that day by a certified Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, who reported no discrepancies. The AAIB noted that the helicopter's last recorded defect—'surface skin peeled at the tail rotor tip'—had been addressed just two days before the crash, with the damaged part replaced and the aircraft cleared for investigation team has since visited the crash site, collected perishable evidence, interviewed eyewitnesses and responders, and recovered key components of the wreckage for detailed analysis, the AAIB report said.
