Adam Idah goal isn't enough as Celtic fall to shock pre-season friendly defeat
The Bhoys' opponents play in the Portuguese top-flight, but they were only founded five years ago - in place of the original club that went bankrupt in 2011 - and they finished 15th in the 18-team division last season.
It took them just three seasons to climb from the third tier to the Primeira Liga.
Celtic struck first on Saturday through Reo Hatate in the seventh minute, but they were behind by the half-time break, thanks to goals from Alan Godoy (37 minutes) and Otávio (44 minutes).
Ireland striker Idah made it 2-2 just eight minutes after the restart, but Estrela struck the winner with 25 minutes to go through Jovane Cabral, when they broke and created a three-on-one with Ireland defender Liam Scales.
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers reacted to the defeat, saying: 'It was a really good exercise for us. We're only a couple of weeks in and there were some good moments, some not so good, young players getting opportunities, some players playing their first minutes of pre-season.
'We'll get sharper. The guys have had a heavy week, so they were maybe a wee bit leggy today.
'But it's that point in the season where you have to push and get through that, that's all about building your fitness.
'We had some really good moments, the goals were excellent. And then we got caught out, especially in the third goal, just pressing at the wrong moment.
'But all that comes with the evolution and understanding of how we play.'

Sunday warning but Shamrock Rovers backed to slay Ballkani
Shamrock Rovers have work to do if they're to continue their Conference League journey this year, but Richie Towell and David McMillan both expect Stephen Bradley's men to turn things around against Ballkani on tonight. The Hoops fell to a 1-0 first-leg defeat in Kosovo last week, Sunday Adetunji's second-half effort proving the difference. Former Shamrock Rovers man Towell knows Adetunji well; he played for FC Shkupi against the Dublin outfit in 2022, when they met in the third round of the Europa League qualifiers. Rovers prevailed 5-2 on aggregate back then and Towell fully expects them to do the business at Tallaght Stadium on Thursday to set up a Conference League play-off against either Larne or Portuguese side Santa Clara. "I think they'll definitely get through," Towell said on the RTÉ Soccer Podcast. "A European night up in Tallaght, it hits a little bit different. "I've obviously been lucky enough to be a part of a lot of them. I think the crucial thing for Shamrock Rovers going into the game against Ballkani is... I think they'll have the lion's share of possession, Ballkani will sit back a little bit and try and protect that lead, the thing is they have the boy Sunday Adetunji up front. "We played against him when he played for Shkupi, a really good player. You seen him in the first leg, he scored and probably should have had another one or two goals. His link-up play is very good. "He's very similar to Tammy Abraham (tormentor of St Pat's last Thursday). He's that big, tall, gangly, physical presence, he can run in behind, he has a good touch, so he'll be a real target man for Ballkani." McMillan didn't pay too much heed to Shamrock Rovers' goalless draw against Galway United on Sunday. Bradley's charges remain in control at the top of the league, with little evidence to suggest the chasing pack are capable of putting them under genuine pressure. "It was the sort of league performance you'd expect mid-European tie," said the ex-Dundalk striker. "You can probably rest a few players because you have such a good cushion, a 10-point cushion to Bohemians behind them. "They've put themselves in an excellent position to be able to target the European games in particular, go out with your strongest teams, rest players during the weekend games in the league." McMillan also expects the Hoops to get through, adding: "They never really laid a glove on Ballkani (in the first leg) but on the flip side... it felt like a 1-0 loss was not too bad a result. "I'm sure they would have been happy to come away with a nil-nil, I'm sure that was the realistic target of the game, but even as it got to the latter stages of that game you just felt they were the fitter side, they were the stronger side. You just had a feeling there was more to come from Rovers and I think that's what they'll expect to show this week in Tallaght. "Ballkani will be coming thinking, 'we have this lead, can we sit back, can we hold on to it?' but I'd expect Rovers to show another level in Tallaght and probably get through this tie. Their form in Tallaght has been excellent, you would still fancy them to get the job done."

Jack Byrne left out of Rovers squad again after rumoured row with Stephen Bradley
Jack Byrne may have played his last game for Shamrock Rovers as he's been frozen out for tonight's Europa League third round second leg. Bar a brief injury-interrupted spell in Cyprus, when his former Ireland manager Mick McCarthy recruited him to APOEL, the classy midfielder has been with Rovers for the past six years. His goal as a substitute against St Joseph's helped the Hoops hurdle a Conference League round but he's not been with the squad for almost a fortnight. Chatter grew about a spat with his manager when Stephen Bradley omitted the 29-year-old from his squad for last week's trip to FK Ballkani in Kosovo. Exclusion from the initial list means Byrne is also unavailable for this second leg in which the league leaders need to overturn a 1-0 deficit. It also has financial implications as the Ireland international won't be entitled to the European bonus if his team completes the turnaround, setting up a playoff next week for league phase participation. That'll likely be against Portuguese outfit Santa Clara, who lead Larne 3-0 heading into their second leg in the Azores. Bradley is prepared to tackle this task without a player who has been integral to their revival. Byrne was central to their 2019 FAI Cup triumph and three of their four-in-a-row of titles. It's believed the row stems from Byrne taking issues with being left out of the league game against Derry City the weekend before last. Words were exchanged during a preparatory training match, in which the Dubliner was part of the back-up XI. It's only two years since Rovers rejected three bids, rising to €500,000, for their lynchpin from MLS side Charlotte. Byrne was understood to favour the switch at the time but signed a contract extension later in 2023 that expires at the end of 2026. A 12-month further option is held by his club. Bradley would only confirm that the player's absence wasn't due to injury, adamant he wouldn't be distracted ahead of a huge night at Tallaght Stadium. There is still the possibility of a reconciliation but a parting is also a possibility. 'We were off our level in the first leg,' said the Hoops boss, whose side remain 10 points clear in the Premier Division despite being held scoreless at Galway United on Sunday. 'Ballkani were used to their surface last week whereas our lads were slipping. That's not an excuse that they were, but it played a part. 'They were dangerous where we thought they would be and we were slightly off it, which can happen. 'When that's the case but you leave with a result that keeps us in the tie, you take it. One thing you can never question about our group is their character and togetherness. Hopefully there's a big crowd cheering us on.' Meanwhile, St Patrick's Athletic are in damage limitation mode in Turkey. Tammy Abraham helped himself to a 30-minute hat-trick for Besiktas in last week's first leg as Ole Gunnar Solskjær's side led 4-0 at the break before Simon Power bagged a consolation. The former Manchester United manager will rotate his squad with an eye on the playoff round next week and the start of their domestic league, aware of the chasm between the teams. 'We were too charitable by giving up goals and wanted to get off the plane feeling we'd have a chance of winning the tie,' lamented Saints boss Stephen Kenny in Istanbul. ' We restored some integrity in the second half, we want to do ourselves justice and enjoy the game. 'Besiktas will want to put on a show at home so we've to match that and stay in the game. We were too passive in the first leg and want to bring a greater physicality and intensity.' In other news, Uefa have approved Tolka Park as the venue for Shelbourne's Conference League playoff. There were fears the limited capacity of 3,500 would require a switch to Tallaght but the club have sought and been granted clearance. Joey O'Brien's side will either have a rematch against Linfield — whom they overcame in last month's Champions League opening round — or Vikingur Gøta. The Faroese hold a 2-1 advantage ahead of Thursday's second leg at Windsor Park.
