CRDA to begin final phase of IRR in Guntur
Guntur: The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) is set to launch the third phase of Inner Ring Road (IRR) construction in Guntur city at an estimated cost of 50 crore. With the Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) clearing encroachments along the 4.5-km stretch, CRDA is now preparing to invite tenders for the road development.

The final phase of IRR, stalled for nearly 20 years, aims to ease traffic congestion by allowing heavy vehicles from Palnadu district to access National Highway-65 without entering the city. Initially conceptualized in 2005 by the Vijayawada-Guntur-Tenali-Mangalagiri Urban Development Authority (VGTM UDA) — CRDA's predecessor — the IRR was designed to connect Perecharla (western Guntur) with NH-65 (eastern Guntur near Autonagar) through an 11-km four-lane highway.
Due to land acquisition challenges, the project was executed in phases, with only 7 km completed over the past two decades. Despite multiple government transitions, the final phase remained incomplete.
Following the TDP-led NDA assuming power, Union minister Pemmasani Chandrasekhar took the initiative to push CRDA authorities to complete the IRR, addressing Guntur's growing traffic woes. Dr. Pemmasani also secured four Railway Over Bridge (ROB) projects, including one linked to the IRR, from the Union highways and road transport ministry. With the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) now preparing to begin ROB work, CRDA is keen to accelerate the final phase of IRR development.
"We have cleared encroachments and distributed TDR bonds to affected property owners. The road markings are complete, and now it's over to CRDA to proceed with development," said GMC commissioner Puli Srinivasulu.

ECB set for 7th rate cut again as Donald Trump trade war rumbles on
The European Central Bank is likely to announce its seventh consecutive interest rate cut this week as the eurozone economy struggles under slowing inflation and uncertainty fueled by US President Donald Trump 's shifting trade policies. Prior to Trump's fluctuating tariff impositions globally, the ECB had been reducing borrowing costs in response to declining inflation rates. Concerns about economic performance in the 20 euro-using nations have become more prominent than inflation worries, as elevated rates have affected both commercial entities and consumers. The impact of Trump's tariffs has created additional pressure. Europe faces scrutiny due to its substantial trade surplus with the United States, raising concerns about potential negative effects on European exporters. HSBC anticipates a rate reduction at Thursday's ECB governing council meeting, citing the eurozone's deteriorated short-term outlook following recent US tariff announcements. Financial experts anticipate another quarter-point decrease, which would adjust the Frankfurt-based institution's primary deposit rate to two percent. However, specialists suggest this June reduction might conclude the current sequence, with the ECB likely taking a pause in July to evaluate recent economic trends. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The ECB's reduction strategy contrasts with the US Federal Reserve's approach, which has maintained steady rates amid concerns about Trump's tariffs potentially increasing inflation. The EU currently faces multiple tariff levels from Trump's administration, including a 10-percent baseline rate and 25-percent duties on vehicles, steel and aluminium. Trump has temporarily suspended higher tariffs on the EU and other trading partners during negotiations, temporarily reducing market tensions. However, indicating ongoing trade tensions, he recently threatened a 50-percent tariff on the EU, before postponing the decision to July 9. ECB President Christine Lagarde expressed concern in Berlin, stating that the US-led global economic structure was "fracturing". The ECB faces challenges in safeguarding the eurozone from Trump's unpredictable trade policies while maintaining stable inflation. Eurozone inflation reached 2.2 percent in April, marginally exceeding the ECB's two-percent target. Eurostat will release May's inflation figures on Tuesday before the ECB meeting. Recent indicators suggest faster-than-anticipated reduction in price pressures, and the ECB is likely to revise its inflation forecasts downward on Thursday. Analysts generally believe Trump's tariffs will further decrease eurozone inflation, particularly as China might redirect low-cost products to Europe to avoid US duties. The ECB is expected to reduce growth projections on Thursday due to trade war effects, following the EU's recent forecast reductions. While markets await Lagarde's guidance about future ECB actions, analysts suggest current uncertainties will limit detailed revelations. Punjab: Paddy MSP hike meagre, says SKM
The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has condemned the minimum support price (MSP) that was announced for 14 crops for the current kharif season by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on May 28. The government has increased the paddy rate to ₹2,369 per quintal (100 kg) from last year's ₹2,300. In a statement, the SKM mentioned, 'The MSP is not based on Swaminathan Commission's recommendation of C2+50% formula. Had it been implemented, the paddy MSP should have been ₹3,135 per quintal. The average production in India for paddy is 25-30 quintals per acre and the loss due to non-implementation of Swaminathan Commission's recommendation for farmers on one-acre production will be in the range of ₹19,150 to ₹22,980, which is three times higher than ₹6,000 being provided under the PM Kisan Nidhi,' the SKM leaders stated. The C2 formula of calculating the cost of cultivation includes the cost of capital and the rent on the land to give farmers 50% returns. A senior SKM leader, Sukhdev Singh Kokrikalan, said the group and the farmer's organisations across the country were consistently demanding implementation of the C2+50% formula for MSP with guaranteed procurement as promised in the election manifesto of the BJP in the 2014 general election. 'However, the BJP-led Union government under PM Modi has been betraying the farmers for the 12th year by not increasing the MSP using the C2+50% formula,' he said. The SKM added the rate of inflation and the rising prices of fertilisers, seed and other input materials, including petroleum products, and the living cost were much higher than the MSP hike. The SKM has also decided to ensure active participation in a nationwide general strike at tehsil and block level on July 9.

New Bangladesh Currency Notes With Images Of Hindu, Buddhist Temples; Founding Father Mujibur Rehmans Pic Replaced
New Delhi: In one of the most significant and sweeping changes under the regime of the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government of Bangladesh, currency notes in the neighbouring country will no longer bear the photographs of the 'father of the nation' late Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, whose daughter Sheikh Hasina had an unceremonious exit from the country last year after stepping down as prime minister. According to reports, Bangladesh has recently started issuing newly designed banknotes which do not feature the photograph of the founder of the country, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, popularly also referred to as 'Bangabandhu'. It has been learnt that the authorities in Bangladesh, just ahead of Sunday (June 1), reportedly issued a new series of currency notes which, for a historic first time, do not feature Mujibur Rahman's photograph. Sources in the know of the development believe that the new bank notes were issued on Sunday to do away with the currency's previous design. Reports citing a senior official of Bangladesh's central bank suggested the newly designed currency series "no longer features the portrait of any human figure". The new bank notes now feature natural landscapes, historical landmarks, etc., showcasing the cultural heritage of Bangladesh. The new currency notes also includes images of Hindu temples and Buddhist places of worship. Sources submitted that out of the nine denominations, three have been issued till now while the rest of the denominations likely to be introduced later. A source said that the current and existing banknotes and coins, however, will continue to be in circulation. Notably, the recent change in the design of banknotes is not the first time that political developments have had an influence on the appearance of 'Taka' -- the Bangladeshi currency. Also, it is pertinent to mention that Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's photograph for the design of the bank notes in Bangladesh was introduced much later as the initial series of notes which were issued after Independence featured the country's map.
