All-new Mitsubishi Pajero caught testing overseas: Can it challenge the Toyota Fortuner?
The Mitsubishi Pajero was one of the most iconic nameplates in the full-size SUV space, and it appears to be making a comeback after being discontinued for nearly half a decade. A heavily camouflaged test mule has been spotted on the roads in Southern Europe, and it is expected to bring back the moniker in a revamped package with an updated design, fresh interiors, and several powertrain options.
Mitsubishi introduced the Pajero to the Indian market around 2002 as part of a joint venture with Hindustan Motors, which was responsible for its assembly on our shores. In 2012, the joint venture brought in the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, a mid-size version of the SUV. Despite its popularity among enthusiasts, Mitsubishi discontinued the ladder-frame SUV in India in 2020 due to increasingly stringent emissions regulations. In 2021, the Pajero was taken off the global market altogether.

The Japanese manufacturer is now gearing up to roll out the next-gen Pajero, and it will likely arrive in India, taking up competition with the Toyota Fortuner. The test mule seems to be nearly production-ready, and the final model is expected to debut before the end of 2025. Mitsubishi Pajero: Design The next-gen Pajero retains the characteristic boxy profile with a tall stance and an upright front end.
The next-gen Pajero retains its boxy silhouette from the previous models while carrying forward a range of exterior design tweaks. The latest spy shots showcase a tall stance with an upright front end that features vertically stacked LED DRLs flanking a wide grille. The SUV further features a large skid plate, a clamshell bonnet design, and updated bumpers.
The new Pajero will ride on a revamped set of alloys, which are likely to be 19-inch or 20-inch options. The rear end is reminiscent of the Nissan Patrol with a slim, rectangular rear window, connected LED taillights, and an oversized skid plate that doubles up as the rear diffuser.

The interior details have not been revealed yet, but the Pajero is expected to bring a modern, updated cabin with new upholstery and a broad range of creature comforts. Features may include ventilated seats, a larger infotainment and gauge cluster setup. Mitsubishi is additionally expected to equip the upcoming SUV with an ADAS suite of safety features. Mitsubishi Pajero: Engine and performance Mitsubishi may offer the upcoming Pajero with a range of engine options, including turbo-diesel and plug-in hybrid units.
The choice of powertrain offered within the next-gen Mitsubishi Pajero may likely come down to the SUV's platform. If it returns in its ladder-frame guise, it is likely to be built on the Mitsubishi Triton's chassis and will carry the 2.4-litre turbodiesel engine that makes up to 201 bhp. Few reports suggest that the upcoming Pajero may be based on the Outlander's CMF-C/D monocoque architecture. In this case, the SUV is likely to be equipped with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, delivering up to 302 bhp.

Watch: Mahindra XUV700 facelift spotted once again

With competition in the segment intensifying, a mid-cycle update was expected. Recently, the facelifted model was spotted testing on Indian roads, giving a first look at the upcoming changes. 2026 Mahindra XUV700 Facelift: Design Updates Based on the spy shots, the XUV700 facelift will feature redesigned headlamps and updated LED daytime running lights. A reworked front grille and revised bumper also appear to be part of the visual changes. While the side profile seems largely unchanged, it's likely that Mahindra will introduce a new alloy wheel design. A noteworthy addition could be the inclusion of drive modes for the petrol variant, aimed at improving fuel efficiency. The 2.2-litre diesel engine will also continue, delivering 182 bhp at 3,500 rpm. Torque output stands at 420 Nm with the manual gearbox and 450 Nm with the automatic transmission. For the entry-level MX variant, the diesel engine is detuned to produce 152 bhp and 360 Nm of torque, paired only with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Maruti Suzuki's first EV could debut on Sept 3. Here's everything to know
Maruti Suzuki has sent out an invite for September 3, 2025. It is expected that the brand's first electric vehicle, the e-Vitara will be launched on that day. As the first electric model from Maruti Suzuki in the Indian market, this SUV is one of the most anticipated EV launches of the year. The e-Vitara will compete in a growing segment of electric SUVs, taking on popular rivals like the Hyundai Creta EV, BE.06, Tata Curvv EV, and MG ZS EV. While the Indian version is yet to be fully revealed, the e-Vitara is already on sale in the UK, offering key insights into its features and performance capabilities. The e-Vitara showcases a futuristic and clean design, in line with modern electric vehicles. It sports LED projector headlamps, Y-shaped LED DRLs, and integrated front fog lamps. Being an EV, it ditches the conventional radiator grille, giving it a sleek and aerodynamic front look. The profile is enhanced with black body cladding and 18-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels. At the back, a blacked-out bumper, three-piece LED tail lamps, and a connecting gloss black strip give it a distinctive appearance. A dual-spoke steering wheel, rectangular AC vents, auto-dimming rearview mirror (IRVM), and semi-leatherette upholstery elevate the premium feel. Key features also include an electronic parking brake, wireless smartphone charging, ventilated front seats, 10-way power-adjustable driver seat, and a panoramic sunroof. For safety, it offers seven airbags, a 360-degree camera system, and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems). Internationally, the e-Vitara is available with two battery configurations: 49 kWh and 61 kWh. The 49 kWh version provides a range of up to 344 km (WLTP) and features a front-wheel-drive (FWD) electric motor delivering 142 bhp and 193 Nm of torque. The 61 kWh battery is offered in both FWD and all-wheel-drive (AWD) variants. The FWD setup delivers 171 bhp and a maximum range of 426 km, while the AWD version boosts power to 181 bhp and 307 Nm, offering a slightly lower range of 395 km. In a major move towards electric mobility, Maruti Suzuki has unveiled its first electric car, the e Vitara, at an international event in Milan, Italy. Charging is quick and convenient. The 49 kWh battery takes around 6.5 hours with a 7 kW AC charger and 4.5 hours using an 11 kW charger. The 61 kWh pack requires approximately nine hours with 7 kW and 5.5 hours using 11 kW. Both battery packs can fast charge from 10% to 80% in just 45 minutes via DC fast charging. With the e-Vitara, Maruti Suzuki EV India is ready to challenge established electric SUV players. Its modern design, feature-rich cabin, and practical range figures make it a promising contender in the Indian EV landscape.
