OC softball is headed to the World Series for the 5th straight season
ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – The Odessa College Lady Wranglers are headed to the NJCAA Division 1 World Series for the fifth straight year. OC got the 6-seed and will face the 11-seed Wallace State – Hanceville on Monday at 6:45 p.m. CST in Yuma, Arizona. In the latest rankings poll on May 5th, Odessa was ranked seventh, and Wallace State was ranked ninth.
The Lady Wranglers finished the regular season at 46-6, falling in the Southwest District A Championship to Grayson. The Lady Lions finished their regular season at 47-13.
The winner of Odessa/Wallace State will face the winner of No. 3 Northwest Florida State College vs. No. 14 Southern Union State/No. 19 Arizona Western. The NJCAA Division 1 World Series is a double-elimination tournament.

Local boxing gym hosts event honoring late teammate
ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – It's been almost a year since Argen 'Lil G' Garcia passed away in a tragic car crash. Garcia was a member of the local boxing gym Gorilla Heavy Hitters, learning the fundamentals of boxing while getting his first taste of combat sports. Child killed in Gardendale crash, several others injured To honor and commemorate his life, Garcia's parents asked Gorilla Heavy Hitters if they could hold a yearly event to celebrate their son, who was passionate about the sport. Without hesitation, Owner Iram Sanchez put the event together and called it 'Lil G Amateur Fight Night'. 'We want to hold this memorial event do it once a year. In memory of him,' says Sanchez. 'It's going to be a good event. He was full of life as soon as he walked in, and the whole room would get excited. He was just a special kid, very brave, a great fighter. He had a bright future.' For the special event, Sanchez ordered multiple custom belts that display Garcia's picture and say Lil G. Sanchez tells us every fighter who wins during the bout will receive a belt. 2025 Odessa Police Athletic League
ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – The Odessa Police Department hosts the Odessa Police Athletic League yearly to offer kids in the Permian Basin a safe and active summer program. For $100 parents can register their children for a four-week program were children are provided with lunch and a variety of activities. This year children in the program had the opportunity to attend a movie at Cinergy, visit Urban Air, and play a variety of sports such as kickball and volleyball. This program has been around for three decades, and it has transformed the lives of several children and police officers. 'I've probably worked with over 10,000 children in this community over those 30 years, and honestly its the reason why I'm still in police work,' said Jon Foust, a sergeant with OPD.
