LeBron James is the first professional male athlete to become a Ken doll
Basketball great LeBron James has become the first professional male athlete to have his likeness depicted in a Ken doll.
Mattel Inc. unveiled the LeBron Ken doll on Wednesday to kick off the toy manufacturer's "Kenbassador" series. Last year, nine female athlete Barbies, including tennis star Venus Williams, were introduced.
"As a young kid, I was fortunate to have role models who not only inspired me but also showed me what's possible through hard work and dedication," James said. "Now, as an adult, I understand how vital it is for young people to have positive figures to look up to. That's why partnering with Barbie to release the LeBron James Kenbassadors doll is such an honor. It's an opportunity to recognize the powerful impact of role models who instill confidence, inspire dreams, and show kids that they, too, can achieve greatness."
The LeBron doll wears sunglasses, headphones and an unzipped blue-and-white letterman's jacket with "LJ" on the left breast, his number 23 on the right sleeve and Ohio and crown patches on the other. His first name is on the back with "Just a kid from Akron" underneath. His T-shirt says "We Are Family," a nod to the LeBron James Family Foundation. His blue shoes, of course, are Nikes.
The doll costs $75 and goes on sale Monday.
In an Associated Press-produced video of James seeing the doll for the first time, the "King" expressed his approval, repeatedly calling the doll "dope," another word for "cool."
While looking it over, he put an "I Promise" wristband on the doll's wrist and adjusted the strap on its fanny pack.
"OK, now we ready," James said. "I mean, he might need to do a little lifting. Legs look a little skinny. Little fraily little fellow. Nah, that's dope."
Mattel senior vice president Krista Berger noted that Ken is Barbie's longtime best friend and supporter.
"We are excited to bring fans a new presentation of Ken that celebrates LeBron as a role model, his icon status, lasting impact on culture, and dedication to setting a positive example for the next generation to reach their limitless potential," Berger said.

Lakers' LeBron James reacts to Jamie Foxx's big BET Awards night
The post Lakers' LeBron James reacts to Jamie Foxx's big BET Awards night appeared first on ClutchPoints. At the 2025 BET Awards, emotions ran high as Jamie Foxx received the prestigious Ultimate Icon award—and no one was prouder than LeBron James. The Los Angeles Lakers superstar took to social media to share his admiration for Foxx's recovery and legacy in the entertainment world. The bond between James and Foxx runs deep. On Monday night, James tuned in to the ceremony at Los Angeles' Peacock Theater, where Foxx was honored for his decades-long contributions to music, comedy, and film. His reaction on X, formerly known as Twitter, quickly went viral. '🫡 @iamjamiefoxx BET 'ULTIMATE ICON'!! Love my brother and CONGRATULATIONS!!!!' James' tweet captured his heartfelt support for Foxx's powerful comeback following a life-threatening health scare in 2023. In an emotional acceptance speech—also shared on social media by The Hollywood Reporter—Foxx reflected on surviving a stroke that left him unconscious for nearly three weeks. Foxx said he saw the 'in memoriam' segment and wondered if he might have been included. His vulnerability resonated with the audience and with James, who has long been a close friend to Foxx. The Lakers legend's reaction on social media showcased more than just support, it reflected how deeply personal Foxx's story is to him. With the Lakers out of playoff contention, James has taken time this offseason to reflect, celebrate his peers, and appreciate those who have impacted his life. Despite turning 40, James continues to defy the odds on the court. In the 2024–25 regular season, he averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists, with playoff numbers rising across the board. His emotional awareness off the court matches his elite performance on it. Their connection even extends into film, with Foxx having previously cast James in his unreleased movie All-Star Weekend. Now, the Ultimate Icon award only cements Foxx's influence—something that James clearly values deeply. Foxx's comeback is a powerful narrative of resilience, and The King's vocal support amplifies the moment's cultural weight. In a year where both men faced challenges, their friendship remains a testament to mutual respect, survival, and celebration. The Independents Acquires Culinary Studio We Are Ona
Fashion communications conglomerate The Independents has acquired culinary studio We Are Ona. Founded in Paris in 2019 by chef and Noma alumnus Luca Pronzato, We Are Ona produces immersive dinners, including for Chanel, Balenciaga, Coperni, Alaïa and Saint Laurent. After working together on various projects for clients over the past few years, joining forces felt inevitable, said Independents co-founder and chief executive Isabelle Chouvet. 'We started to collaborate a lot and then it was natural that we had to officialise this union,' said Chouvet. '[Pronzato] is the only one doing what he's doing. He is able to push the boundaries of innovation, he is the only one who has the network of talents. He has the vision and understands the client's needs.' We Are Ona collaborates with artists like Willo Perron, who has staged shows for Beyoncé and Drake; Carsten Höller, known for his interactive installations; and Michelin-starred chefs including Dalad Kambhu and Mory Sacko. Beyond producing events for brands, the firm hosts pop-ups open to the public, most recently a restaurant experience featuring a dramatic, 100-feet-long sculptural lighting installation in New York's WSA Building with fashion show producer Alexandre de Betak (whose Bureau Betak was acquired by The Independents in 2021) in May. The set of a We Are Ona-produced dinner for Balenciaga. (Courtesy) Being under The Independents' umbrella will help We Are Ona continue expansion in the US (where it opened an office earlier this year), the Middle East and Asia, said Pronzato. This marks The Independents' first acquisition in the culinary space; it comes as foodie culture reaches a new zenith, and as food becomes an increasingly important tool fashion brands use to engage their customers. When it comes to food, fashion brands are raising the stakes — looking for high-production events that double as marketing moments: 'It's not only dinner to have a dinner, it's dinner to create a brand moment,' said Pronzato. 'These experiences can create an emotional link. When you sit at the table, the experience is different than when you buy a bag.' The acquisition is The Independents' third this year, and part of an ongoing spree that began in 2023 when it set its sights on doubling in size. In April, The Independents bought design studio 2x4 and in May, Paris-based documentary production company Terminal 9 Studios. Now, the company has over 20 agencies in its ranks and counts over 1,200 employees in offices across cities including Barcelona, Beijing, London, Los Angeles, Milan, New York, Seoul, Shanghai and Paris. Group revenue totalled $800 million in 2024, according to the company.
