Egypt FM Abdelatty, US envoy Witkoff discuss Iran nuclear talks and Gaza war - Foreign Affairs
Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty and US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff discussed the latest developments in the US-Iran indirect talks and the crises in Gaza and Ukraine in a phone call on Sunday.
The call between FM Abdelatty and Witkoff comes as Egypt and Qatar are undertaking mediation efforts to end the Israeli war on Gaza.
Over the weekend, Egypt and Qatar facilitated direct talks between the US and Hamas in Doha.
On Sunday, Hamas announced its decision to release US-Israeli captive Edan Alexander in a show of goodwill to Washington with the hope of reaching a ceasefire deal that would end the Gaza war.
According to the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, FM Abdelatty commended Oman's mediation efforts between the US and Iran in another phone call with his Omani counterpart, Badr Al-Busaidi.
On Sunday, the Omani capital of Muscat hosted the fourth round of the US-Iran talks over Tehran's nuclear programme.
Egypt's top diplomat also praised Iran and the US commitment to the diplomatic track during a phone call with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi.
During these phone conversations, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's full support for all initiatives that seek peaceful solutions through dialogue and diplomatic channels.
He also hoped these negotiations would bridge differences, de-escalate tensions, and enhance regional security and stability.
