Malaysia advances blockchain adoption with new infrastructure initiative
Minister Chang Lih Kang highlighted the technology's role in improving transparency, efficiency, and security.
'This includes government administration to improve transparency and efficiency in public service systems; finance and banking to reduce transaction costs and enhance access to digital financial services; the halal industry to strengthen tracking and certification systems that are more efficient and reliable; and trade and supply chains to enhance efficiency and product traceability from producers to consumers,' he said during the launch of the Malaysia Blockchain Infrastructure (MBI) at Malaysia Blockchain Week 2025.
Chang explained that blockchain's potential has been hindered by fragmentation, high costs, and interoperability issues.
The MBI aims to address these challenges by enabling seamless connectivity between blockchain networks, lowering costs, and improving trust and security.
'The MBI is our strategic response, designed to enable interoperability across blockchain networks, reduce transaction costs and duplication, and enhance trust, transparency, and security.
It will also provide open access to more startups, businesses, and communities,' he added.
The initiative aligns with the National Blockchain Roadmap 2021–2025, which has achieved 60 per cent of its goals so far.

Zetrix to benefit from Malaysia's blockchain plans
PETALING JAYA: Zetrix AI Bhd, formerly known as MyEG Services Bhd , is poised to benefit from new ancillary revenue streams as Malaysia's blockchain and digital ID ecosystems enter nationwide deployment in the second half of this year, according to UOB Kay Hian Research (UOBKH Research). In a recent note, the research house said the group is well-positioned to capitalise on the full rollout of the Malaysia Blockchain Infrastructure (MBI) and My Digital ID, both being developed in collaboration with the Malaysian Institute of Microelectronic Systems (Mimos). 'Given Zetrix's partnership with Mimos for MBI, we deem that any potential nationwide policy that encourages better adoption of blockchain technology may be beneficial for the group,' UOBKH Research said. It highlighted potential use-cases such as the tokenisation of financial instruments, including bank guarantees and bankers' acceptances. It said Zetrix is also co-developing the My Digital ID Superapp with Mimos, aimed at providing a single sign-on platform for identity verification across government platforms such as MySejahtera, MyJPJ and MyHRMIS. 'Zetrix will monetise this project through one-off registration fees and recurring income via subscription modules for any commercial entity that wants to use MY Digital ID as single-login user ID solutions in the future,' it noted. UOBKH Research said Zetrix has invested over RM1bil into developing its blockchain over the past three years and has launched multiple applications, including Ztrade with China customs, certificate of origin authentication services, smart-contract verifiable credentials, and blockchain-based digital signing. 'More importantly, some of these government-to-government blockchain applications under the Zetrix platform solidify the group's presence within the domestic e-government space, with increasing adoption rates across various ministries,' it noted. UOBKH Research has maintained a 'buy' call on Zetrix, with an unchanged target price of RM1.46 a share.

12 Madani recreational parks in Ipoh set for July completion
IPOH: The construction of 12 Madani Recreational Parks (TRM) in Ipoh, backed by an allocation of RM5.4 million, is on track for completion by the end of July. Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming confirmed the progress, highlighting the government's dedication to improving public recreational facilities. Each park received RM450,000 in funding, with the Canning Madani Recreational Park already operational. Nga emphasised the ministry's broader vision of establishing 1,000 parks nationwide, aligning with the Madani economic framework's goals of sustainability and community well-being. 'The Madani government is committed to fostering a sustainable, competitive, and prosperous nation. Quality public spaces are vital for the people's welfare,' he said during the launch of the Canning TRM and a CSR initiative by Ipoh City Council (MBI) and Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd (KLK). A memorandum of understanding between MBI and KLK formalised a two-year partnership to maintain seven TRMs, including Woodland Park 1 and 2 Tambun, Bandar Baru Putra, and First Garden. KLK will conduct biweekly upkeep, such as fertilising and grass cutting. Nga urged more corporations to support similar initiatives, reinforcing Ipoh's vision for a greener, cleaner city. – Bernama
