Shin Yamada gets emotional Celtic sendoff as Odsonne Edouard 'welcomed' in double striker transfer push
Incoming Shin Yamada has been given an emotional farewell by Kawasaki Frontale as he inches closer to rubber stamping a move to Celtic.
The Japan international has been with his country at the E-1 Championship but returned to his club side to say a final goodbye to the J-League club before travelling to Glasgow for his official unveiling.
After the clubs agreed a £1.2m fee, the 25-year-old travelled back to Kawaski to take in Frontale's Emperors Cup clash with minnows SC Sagamihara.
Yamada's soon-to-be former club were stunned by the J-League 3 side as they crashed out of the competition on penalties.
However, that didn't deter fans staying after the final whistle to say goodbye to Yamada as he prepares to jet out of the country.
The fans unveiled a banner featuring Yamada in front of a Saltire as the emotional striker waved farewell to the club where he has played since 2018.
The crowd could be heard chanting his name as he did his final lap of the Uvance Todoroki Stadium as he received the same treatment as Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Kyogo when they sealed a switch to the Scottish Premiership.
Celtic have been told former hero Odsonne Edouard is set to become available this summer as they ramp up their attempts to bolster the frontline.
And despite the Scottish Premiership champions facing huge financial hurdles if they are to snap up the Frenchman from Crystal Palace, Gordon Dalziel reckons a deal would be "welcomed" for the striker who left for the Premier League in 2021 in a £14m deal.
With Edouard understood to be weighing up his options, the former Rangers star told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard: 'He has gone down there after being a big success in Scotland, let's not be kidded.
'He has gone down to England. Played in a top, top league against top centre-halves. For me, he has got to have improved. He's 27. He's at a good age. In fact, a really good age.
'It tells me it will be a case of financially. See if financially, if the deal could be done, I think Celtic would welcome that. I could be wrong. But I think they would welcome it. And I think a lot of Celtic fans would be very positive about it.
'I just look at him, at the right age, coming back to Celtic, he knows the club inside and out. You have seen it. Celtic have a habit of doing this.
'You look at Jota. Put him out for big money and brought him back. (Kieran) Tierney, out for big money and then brought him back. I wouldn't be surprised if this went through.

Image: FK Cukaricki Bacanin, 18, is a highly-rated prospect currently on the books of Serbian Super League side FK Cukaricki – but was left out of their league opener against Napretka as transfer speculation rises. Sporting director Vladimir Matijasevic revealed that Bacanin and defender Vojin Serafmovic are both expected to rake in millions for the club in the coming weeks. Bacanin is the one of the two more in demand, with Matijasevic claiming both Rangers and Celtic lead the queue for his signature. He told the Cukaricki website: 'There is a lot of interest in our young players, and currently the focus is on the transfer of Andrej Bačanin. 'He attracted the attention of numerous clubs by playing for our team last season but also for the Serbian national team at his age. 'We had calls from the Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers, Ajax, Udinese, and some other teams are interested. 'It is possible that some other options will appear, and I expect the transfer to be realized in the next ten days. "I expect that this will be another big outgoing transfer of Cukaricki, which would cover the budget of our club.' The Serbia under-19 cap is valued at around £430,000 (500,000 Euros) by football data specialists Transfermarkt although a transfer bidding war could see that price tag rise dramatically. 'Mostly played short and medium passes here but has that range too. 'Comfortable with his back to goal, progressive, a line-breaker when possible. Robin Propper faces Rangers exit U turn from frustrated Twente chief as Ibrox transfer issue escalates
The centre-back is on the radar of his former club but time is ticking on the transfer clock FC Twente's technical director Jan Streuer admits the club could move on from Rangers defender Robin Propper. The Dutchman is wanted by his former club just 12 months after they sold the centre back to the Scottish Premiership side. A deal has reportedly been held up while Propper sorts out an arrangement over the remaining three years on his contract at Ibrox - but the Eredivise side appear to be growing impatient with their former captain. While Streuer conceded he would like to re-sign the 31-year-old this summer, he concedes that they could move on to other targets. He told De Volkskrant: "All sorts of factors beyond your control (dictate transfers). Just before last season, our captain Robin Propper left at the last minute. "We really missed him. Rangers bought him. A top Scottish club. You can't compete with them. "Now there's a new manager at Rangers, he might play less. Then he might be able to return. "But he'll want to wait and see first if he actually plays less. Do we have to decide: do we wait for that or do we see what happens next?" And four-time Rangers title winner Neil Murray reckons that Russell Martin 's big issue this summer is the size of his squad. The competitive action will get underway for the new boss on Tuesday in the crucial Champions League qualifier against Panathinaikos. Martin already adding seven new signings. Murray said: "It's about finding the best formula because there will be new players there who have given the Rangers group a boost. "One thing people are talking about at the moment is the Rangers squad is absolutely massive. "There are plenty players to choose from which, sometimes, generates its own problems. "Russell Martin will hopefully have a good idea of his best XI. Team selection will be key. There are big calls to be made."
