Naga Munchetty reacts to Lioness coverage saying Euro 2025 win was 'agonising'
BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty has responded after the Lionesses successfully defended their European Championship title claimed at Wembley three years ago.
Yesterday evening, the England women's football squad triumphed over Spain in Basel, Switzerland, following a dramatic penalty shoot-out.
The squad is set to attend a celebration at Downing Street on Monday. After their triumph, England skipper Leah Williamson emphasised her determination to demonstrate that the 2022 Euros victory wouldn't be a "flash in the pan."
The Lionesses are anticipated to stage a victory parade through central London on Tuesday this week, reports the Express. Commenting on their success, Naga turned to X and wrote: "Perfect. Just perfect. Painful. Agonising. But perfect. Back 2 back Champions #Lionessess #Euro2025."
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer declared on X: "You dug deep when it mattered most and you've made the nation proud. History makers."
Ex-BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker shared on Instagram: "INCREDIBLE! ! ! What a team. What a moment for Hannah Hampton. Chloe Kelly... bonkers. Sarina Wiegman is such a leader. 3 Euros on the trot for her!"
King Charles posted on social media: "For more years than I care to remember, England fans have sung that famous chant 'football's coming home'.
"As you return home with the trophy you won at Wembley three years ago, it is a source of great pride that, through sporting skill and awesome teamwork, the Lionesses have made those words ring true. For this, you have my whole family's warmest appreciation and admiration."
The King praised the Lionesses, saying: "Well done, Lionesses. The next task is to bring home the World Cup in 2027 if you possibly can."
Sarina Wiegman, the gaffer of England Women's team, has a hat-trick of Euro tournament victories under her belt, including her 2017 triumph with the Netherlands.
As per The Times, the telly audience for the Euros final, broadcast on both BBC and ITV, is predicted to be the biggest of 2025.
However, the Beeb faced a backlash during the final as pundit Fara Williams was conspicuously absent from their coverage. The presenting squad included Gabby Logan and Alex Scott, with Steph Houghton, Ellen White, Jill Scott, Nedum Onouha, and Fran Kirby also popping up during the tournament.
His post also featured several shocked-face emojis.

ARSENAL 2-3 VILLARREAL: Viktor Gyokeres' first Gunners start ended in dissappointmnet as Spanish side Villarreal picked up a morale-boosting win at the Emirates Arsenal were itching for their glitzy big-money signing to grab a goal - and after 17 minutes, Nicolas Pepe showed Viktor Gyokeres how it was done. The great irony of it all was that Pepe, considered one of the Gunners' biggest flops following his £72million switch from Lille, arguably looked sharper than Gabriel Martinelli. The Brazilian is facing a make-or-break campaign in north London and it's already clear the understanding between Martinelli, Bukayo Saka and Gyokeres will require time. That said, the former Sporting striker did show an early glimpse of what Mikel Arteta's side have been missing in recent seasons inside the opening 30 seconds. It did not end in a goal but there was a huge roar of anticipation when the bullish Swede burst into the box and attempted to square an early cutback. Not only is he 6ft 2' but the £63.7million frontman is square-shouldered and has pace to burn. Kai Havertz, who was a notable absentee against Villarreal, thrives in between the lines but if Gyokeres' Emirates debut is anything to go by; Arsenal fans can expect pure determination, power and a hunger to score goals. He pressed the Spaniards' backline and goalkeeper aggressively and did not afford them a moment's peace. But to get the best from Gyokeres, Arsenal will need to create him both chances and space. Here, he had neither. There were a few minor openings and one wild swing at an overhead kick but Villarreal's backline was camped inside their box. At times, it felt like the same old story as Martinelli continually ran down blind alleys. Villarreal were two goals to the good when Etta Eyong tapped home a second from close range. Christian Norgaard netted his first Arsenal goal with a back-post header from a corner before ex-Tottenham forward Arnaut Danjuma added a third for the visitors. Fifteen-year-old Max Dowman was spectacular upon entering the field on 60 minutes with his immaculate footwork and dribbling. He won a penalty converted by Martin Odegaard and already looks like a Premier League-ready star. His close control, deft touches and explosiveness was a breath of fresh air. He cannot play in the Champions League until his 16th birthday but we are likely to see him make his top-flight debut very soon. Arteta isn't afraid to hand Hale End gems minutes as Ethan Nwaneri made his Premier League bow at just 15 years and 181 days old. Dowman may not break that record but there is no shame in that. This kid is special and is going right to the very top. It's just a shame he plays in the same position as his idol Saka.

More is expected to come after Wrexham achieved their third consecutive promotion to escape League One in April. Since then, Parkinson has introduced a host of new signings in preparation for life in the Championship, with an ambitious two-year plan reportedly in place to reach the Premier League. As per a Daily Mail report, a total summer budget of £20million was agreed upon before the window opened. More of this could be spent before the Red Dragons commence their campaign with a challenging match at Southampton on Saturday, where the starting line-up is expected to include several new recruits. Wales and Sheffield United striker Kieffer Moore and Leicester City defender Conor Coady are the latest arrivals in deals believed to be worth £2m each. Wrexham have already shattered their club transfer record twice this summer, beginning with the signing of left-back Liberato Cacace from Italian team Empoli for an initial fee of £2.16m. That record was smashed once more with the signing of Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O'Brien in a deal the Mail reports is valued at £3m. An even bolder approach was attempted earlier in the transfer window to lure former Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen to the Racecourse Ground. Whilst the proposal was ultimately turned down, the Denmark international's representative praised Wrexham's project.
