This ‘Elio' Deleted Scene Hints at an Alternate Version of the Movie
Pixar's latest film, Elio, may not have been a box office success, but once it comes home, audiences are going to discover they missed something special. The story of a young boy who travels to space and is forced to save his planet by befriending a group of aliens is funny, exciting, and extremely heartfelt. Yes, it had a long trip to the finish line, but once it got there, it stuck the landing. Elio is coming to digital download on Tuesday, August 19, ahead of its physical release on September 9 and eventual arrival on Disney+. To celebrate, Disney has given io9 the exclusive reveal of one of the release's several deleted scenes. This one, called 'Home Visit,' is taken from a version of the movie where the main character, Olga (Zoe Saldaña), was actually Elio's mom. In the final film, she's his aunt, which creates a whole new dynamic. Plus, as you'll see in the setup before the clip, directors Madeline Sharafian and Domee Shi explain how they went way too far overcomplicating this scene. Which is what makes it both perfect for deletion and to watch now. In the movie, it's much simpler how Elio clones Glordon, and that return to Earth hits much harder. So, we understand why this was cut. But you also see just how much things can change and the scope of the imagination happening at Pixar. Elio is truly a lovely little movie, and we hope you give it a shot when it's available in your home. Plus, here is the full list of special features with the digital release. Want more io9 news? Check out when to expect the latest Marvel, Star Wars, and Star Trek releases, what's next for the DC Universe on film and TV, and everything you need to know about the future of Doctor Who.

Aubrey Plaza Reflects on Grief and Her Husband's Death
It's been eight months since filmmaker Jeff Baena, Aubrey Plaza's husband, died by suicide, and while Aubrey has made a few public appearances since, she's kept her grieving private. Now, as she prepares for the release of her new film, Honey Don't!, Aubrey Plaza is reflecting on grief, even opening up about the loss in a new interview with Amy Poehler. Aubrey appeared on this week's episode of Amy's Good Hang podcast and addressed the topic right at the top. 'Just to get it out of the way, people want to see you and want to see how you are, they love you,' Amy began. 'You've had this terrible, terrible, tragic year. You lost your husband, you've been dealing with that, and you've been looking for all different ways in which to feel and find support.' She continued, 'On behalf of all the people who feel like they know you, and the people who do know you, how are you feeling today?' 'Right in this very, very present moment, I feel happy to be with you,' Aubrey answered. 'I'm here and I'm functioning, and I feel really grateful to be moving through the world. I think I'm okay, but it's a daily struggle, obviously.' Aubrey continued, likening her experience of grief to the AppleTV+ film The Gorge. 'It's [an] alien movie or something with Miles Teller. In the movie, there's like a cliff on one side and there's a cliff on the other side, then there's a gorge in between, and it's filled with all these monster people that are trying to get them. And I swear, when I watched it, I was like, 'That feels like what my grief is like,'' she said. 'At all times, there's a giant ocean of just awfulness, that's right there and I can see it,' she continued. 'Sometimes, I just want to dive into it and just be in it. Sometimes, I just look at it, and sometimes, I try to get away from it. But it's always there.' Amy and Aubrey moved on from there, but Amy ended the episode by encouraging listeners to check out some of Jeff and Aubrey's work. The couple collaborated frequently throughout their 13-year relationship, releasing Life After Beth, The Little Hours, and Spin Me Round. Watch The Little Hours
