Devil's Den murder suspect Andrew James McGann would ‘tickle' girls, parent at his former school says
The teacher accused of murdering two parents in front of their young daughters at Devil's Den State Park in Arkansas once put a little girl on his lap and asked her to be his 'girlfriend' at his former Texas school, a disturbed parent recalled to The Post on Friday.
Andrew James McGann, 28 — who authorities say admitted to butchering Clinton David Brink, 43, and wife Cristen Amanda Brink, 41, on Saturday — put the 'little girl on his lap' and said 'things like, 'I wish I could date you, I wish you could be my girlfriend,' just really nasty like grooming behaviour', said Zacharri Polyak, whose son attended Donald Elementary School in Flower Mound when the accused killer taught there.

'This monster was around our children,' fumed the dad, who added that his son was occasionally in his class on Fridays.
'Mr McGann was giving a lot of special treatment to girls in particular. He was giving them candy, bringing them Sonic drinks, playing tag with them, tickling them, just really suspect behaviour.'
The north Texas school district, Lewisville ISD, told The Post McGann was placed on administrative leave 'following concerns related to classroom management, professional judgement, and student favouritism' while he was employed during the 2022-23 school year.

However, their 'internal investigation found no evidence of inappropriate behaviour with students'.
McGann resigned in May 2023, according to the school district.
But Mr Polyak expressed outrage that he was let off so easily.

'It should have been an immediate firing with reports to Child Protective Services,' he said.
Sierra Marcum, whose son was in McGann's fourth-grade class at the Texas school, shared that the alleged murderer was strange and stand-offish during her previous encounters with him.
'[He was] pretty cold. You could ask him a question, and he would give you a one-word response,' Ms Marcum said. 'Overall, just pretty disinterested in his students.'

He was the 'most stand-offish teacher' she had ever met, she said.
Ms Marcum reported some of McGann's behaviour to a principal after her son came home upset, she said.
'Eventually, he told me that he and some other classmates had noticed that Mr McGann was very touchy and showed a lot of favouritism to certain girls in the class,' Ms Marcum said, without elaborating.
'I guess [the murder allegations] did surprise me, because while I thought he was off, I never thought he was violent,' she told WFAA.
McGann was hired the next school year to teach fifth grade at Spring Creek Elementary in Oklahoma — which told The Post that a thorough background check turned up nothing to indicate he shouldn't be hired.
'As with all district employees, McGann underwent and passed all legally required national background checks,' the school district said in a statement, adding that no alarms were raised during his interview and that there was never reason to discipline him during his tenure.

McGann was set to start a new teaching job at Springdale Public Schools in a week.
SPS superintendent Jared Cleveland confirmed McGann had been hired for the teaching job, but said he 'has not at any time come into contact with Springdale students or the families we serve', according to 5 News.
McGann allegedly ambushed the parents and stabbed them to death while their two daughters, ages nine and seven, ran to safety. The two girls were unharmed.
Police tracked down McGann at a barbershop and arrested him mid-haircut after a five-day manhunt.
He was charged on Wednesday with capital murder.
McGann appeared in court Friday and was ordered held without bail, according to 5 News.
Investigators have yet to determine a motive for the deadly attack.

Bordertown domestic violence murder prompts calls for more funding in regional SA
A domestic violence murder and suicide in a small South Australian town has highlighted gaps in victim-survivor services, an advocate says. Police said a 41-year-old woman was murdered by her partner, a 47-year-old man, before he took his own life at their home in Bordertown on Sunday. Major Crime detectives attended the scene throughout Monday, but there is no other suspect in relation to the deaths. Bordertown has a population of 3,000 and is located near the Victorian border in South Australia's south east. Susie Smith is the co-chair of the state's peak domestic violence services body Embolden and Centacare's regional manager of domestic violence services. She said the town's location, 180 kilometres north of the regional city of Mount Gambier and 270 kilometres east of Adelaide, made it difficult to reach victim-survivors. "We have been advocating for many years for more services that are less centralised," she said. If you need help immediately call emergency services on triple-0 Centacare has been running outreach programs in Bordertown and the surrounding area since 2023, while most of its staff are based in Mount Gambier. She said these outreach programs in smaller, isolated towns could be successful if they were appropriately funded and resourced. "We have the evidence these programs are making a big difference," Ms Smith said. "We've worked really closely with the community of Bordertown and Naracoorte, and we've done some healthy relationships and recognising domestic violence within communities, workplaces and cultural gathering places. Police on Monday said they had been in contact with the man earlier in the year after a previous domestic violence incident, but that there were no court-imposed restrictions on his contact with the woman. Asked about the incident on ABC Radio Adelaide, SA Police Commissioner Grant Stevens said the force would review its interactions with the pair before their deaths. "It's not appropriate for me to speculate on the relationship or involvement SA Police had with that family; it's something we look at," he said. "I suppose there are potential circumstances where police could have done more; I'm not saying that's the case at this point in time, but we will be certainly looking at that. A leader at the Bordertown Islamic Community Centre, Hassan Mahmood, said the town's migrant community was resilient, but the murder-suicide had devastated it. "It will have a ripple effect. First of all, people culturally here are not used to it, and the children are grown and in a different environment here," Dr Mahmood said. "It's the kind of thing that will have a long-lasting effect." Ms Smith said Centacare's domestic violence support workers had been in Bordertown this week to mourn with the Islamic community. "We absolutely admire [them] for what they bring to the South East and the community of Bordertown. We are truly very saddened for them," she said.

Multiple soldiers shot at US Army base
Five soldiers were wounded at a US Army base after reports of an active shooter. The base commander reported an active shooter at Fort Stewart in Georgia and placed the sprawling compound on lockdown Wednesday, reports The New York Post. The soldiers were treated at the scene and transported to Winn Army Community Hospital, according to an update from Fort Stewart. Police sources told CNN the shooter was also a soldier — had been apprehended and there was no 'active threat to the community'. NBC has reported that the alleged gunman has been identified as Quornelius Radford. The lockdown began at 11:04am (1am, Thursday AEST) in areas of the base including Wright and Evans Army Airfield and the Fort Stewart Schools, with officials advising those on site to remain indoors and close and lock all windows and doors. Three on-base schools, including Kessler Elementary School, Murray Elementary School and Diamond Elementary School, have also been locked down in light of the incident, Superintendent Brian Perry announced in a statement. 'Per DOD alert the commander of Fort Stewart has issued a lock down. Diamond, Kessler, and Murray Schools are all in a lock down at this time. There is no immediate threat to the schools at this time. We will send a message when an all clear is announced.' White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said President Trump has been briefed on the shooting and that it is monitoring the situation. The FBI's Savannah office issued a statement saying it's aware of the incident and is 'co-ordinating with Army Criminal Investigation Division for any assistance that might be needed.' Georgia Governor Brian Kemp issued a statement that he was 'saddened' by the 'tragedy' at Fort Stewart, and assured that his administration has been in close contact with law enforcement personnel on the ground. 'We are keeping the victims, their families, and all those who answer the call to serve in our hearts and prayers, and we ask that all Georgians do the same.' Fort Stewart is the largest US Army installation east of the Mississippi River in southeast Georgia, and serving as home to the 3rd Infantry Division as well as a training area for a number of other military units. More than 10,000 soldiers, Army civilian employees and their families live at the base, which is located about 65km southwest of Savannah.
