Vermont DMV warns about traffic ticket scam

MONTPELIER, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) – The state's Department of Motor Vehicles has issued a warning, urging Vermonters to watch out for scam messages. These messages make false statements about unpaid traffic tickets, urging recipients to pay. Such scams also claim that failure to pay may lead to a suspended license. Commissioner Andrew Collier noted that 'we send notices via the mail and use other communications that are easily recognizable as valid and official because they contain accurate and detailed personally identifiable information.' In a release, the organization emphasizes that they do not send messages which 'require' payment immediately through email or text. As with other scams, those that receive these messages should not click on links, provide personal info and offer payment. This warning comes after last week's release from the Department of Financial Regulation regarding crypto scams: Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
