Former Liverpool captain Henderson joins Brentford after Ajax exit
Ajax confirmed the termination of Henderson's contract, initially set to run until June next year, with immediate effect on Thursday.
The 35-year-old will strengthen Brentford's options in midfield following their former captain Christian Norgaard's move to Arsenal.
"I'm delighted that I'm here, I'm very excited to get started and get going... it was clear for me that I wanted to come here and it was an easy decision in the end," Henderson said in a statement.
"I'll try my best to pass on my experiences, especially to the younger players. But, at the same time, I still need to perform and do my job on the pitch.
"It's a given that I'll help everybody around me but, even at my age, you can still learn a lot, you can still improve, and you can still get better, which is what I want to do at this club."
Henderson returns to the Premier League after a two-year absence, having left Liverpool in 2023 for Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq, a stint that lasted only six months.
He later joined Ajax, making 57 appearances and scoring once during his time with the club.
In March, he earned a surprise recall to the England squad under new manager Thomas Tuchel after being excluded from Euro 2024 contention. REUTERS

"We have worked hard to tailor ourselves. It is inevitable that this year will be very challenging. "But there is a very recent past that we must never forget. We must learn lessons even from negative things. What happened two years ago must be a lesson, especially to the environment. We are on the field and we work, there will never be any flights of fancy. We will be very humble." Napoli have strengthened their title-winning squad with the addition of Belgian playmaker Kevin De Bruyne, Dutch winger Noa Lang and Italian centre back Luca Marianucci, among others. De Bruyne, regarded as one of the greatest midfielders in Premier League history, lifted 19 trophies at Manchester City since his 2015 move from German side VfL Wolfsburg — a haul that includes six Premier League titles and one Champions League crown. Conte hopes the 34-year-old can help Napoli take that extra step. "He comes to us to take on a new challenge, it is a different situation for him too: he has already reached very high levels in his career and has a lot more to give to football," Conte added. Speaking ahead of Saturday's friendly against Reading, the Dane, who succeeded Ange Postecoglou last month, underlined his commitment to a high-intensity style rooted in courage and ambition. "I'm very clear in my principles. I want to see the team be brave, aggressive and attack. Brave is linked to 'dare is to do'," Frank told reporters. He also had empathetic words for his Australian predecessor Postecoglou, who was dismissed by the club despite leading them to their first major trophy in 17 years with victory in the Europa League final. "First and foremost, Ange will forever be a legend here at Tottenham. One of only three who have won a European trophy here and the first in 41 years," Frank said. "I think it was extremely positive that they won (Europa League). The first aim is that we need to be able to compete in all four competitions. That has to be the aim. LONDON – Manchester United have reportedly agreed to sign Cameroon winger Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford in a deal worth an initial £65 million, as manager Ruben Amorim steps up his overhaul of the team's misfiring attack. Mbeumo attracted Amorim's attention with 20 goals in 38 Premier League games for the Bees last season. Tottenham Hotspur, now managed by former Brentford boss Thomas Frank, were also chasing the 25-year-old before United's improved offer sealed the deal after their two previous bids were rebuffed. The Red Devils will pay an additional £6 million in potential add-ons to Brentford. Mbeumo is due to undergo a medical examination in time to travel to the United States on Tuesday as Amorim's men start their pre-season tour.
