POST Rotterdam project in Netherlands tops out

Multidisciplinary company BESIX has announced that the POST Rotterdam project in the Netherlands, a development that merges the conservation of a historic site with contemporary design, has achieved a pivotal construction phase with its topping out at 155m.
The topping-out ceremony brought together partners and the project team, highlighting the culmination of meticulous planning, technical expertise, and the efforts of many professionals and site workers, stated the company.
POST Rotterdam is a revamp of a historic post office in the centre of the city.
BESIX COO construction Jan Van Steirteghem said: 'Bringing the core to its final height of 155m required exceptional coordination, engineering, and execution. Thanks to the use of hydraulic climbing formwork this was both efficient and precise. The result is clearly visible in the Rotterdam skyline. The core itself houses critical elements such as stairwells, lift shafts, and structural stability walls, making it the backbone of the tower.
"Together with our partner Rizzani de Eccher, we are proud of what has been accomplished here and of our continued contribution to the evolution of this city.'
Designed by US-based architect ODA in partnership with Netherlands-based architect Braaksma & Roos, for Omnam Investment Group, a real-estate group, the project integrates a national monument over a century old with a contemporary residential tower.
The historic post office, which withstood the bombings of World War II, is being converted into a five-star boutique hotel, offering 238 rooms.
Meanwhile, the newly erected 155m residential tower will house 305 apartments, with 102 units for sale and 203 units available for rent.
The tower's facade features custom-designed staggered arches and vertical columns crafted from glass fibre-reinforced concrete, paired with an energy-efficient aluminium curtain wall system.
Following the structural completion of POST Rotterdam, the construction team's attention now turns to the facade's completion and the interior finishing of the apartments.
The initial batch of rental apartments is fully finished, and the concrete work is finalised, while the complex facade construction has reached the halfway mark.
In September 2024, construction of the Aramco Stadium project began in Saudi Arabia, for which BESIX and ALBAWANI are handling the stadium's design and construction.

Methodology: For this study, GOBankingRates analyzed the 50 largest U.S. cities by population and determined the salary needed to live comfortably in each location. GBR determined the top 50 cities by population using the U.S. Census American Community Survey (the most recent available). Using the same survey, GBR sourced 2023 and 2022 data for the total population, population age 65 and over, total households, and household median income. One-year changes in percent and amount were calculated for each variable. The single-family home value was sourced from the Zillow Home Value Index from May 2025 and May 2024. By assuming a 10% downpayment and using the national 30-year fixed mortgage rate of 6.75 as sourced on July 21 from Federal Reserve Economic Data, the average mortgage cost was calculated. With the average mortgage cost and average expenditure cost, the average total cost of living was calculated for each city. Using the 50/30/20 rule, which states that needs should not exceed 50% of total household income, the total cost of living was doubled to find the comfortable cost of living. The cities were then sorted to show the largest one-year increase in total population. All data is up to date as of July 21, 2025. Putin meets Trump envoy as Ukraine peace deadline looms

Vladimir Putin met Thursday with U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff amid President Donald Trump's looming Friday deadline for the Russian strongman to start talking peace with Ukraine. Trump hailed the meeting as 'highly productive' and claimed 'great progress' was made, without elaborating. 'Everyone agrees this war must come to a close, and we will work towards that in the days and weeks to come,' Trump posted on his social media site. The president didn't mention his deadline for Putin to start taking unspecified steps toward ending his war with Ukraine, raising obvious questions about whether the threat is still hanging over the Kremlin. A Kremlin spokesman said the meeting lasted three hours and was 'useful and constructive.' The spokesman suggested Putin presented some kind of proposal for Witkoff to convey to Trump, but did not elaborate. Trump last week set a stricter deadline of '10 or 12 days' for Putin to wind down the war against Ukraine or start peace negotiations and threatened 'severe tariffs' and other economic penalties against Russia and its economic partners if it refuses. Moscow had so far shrugged off Trump's deadline as empty bluster, noting that he has given numerous previous ultimatums on various issues that turned out to be toothless threats. Russia believes it has the upper hand on the battlefield, at least in the short and medium term, giving it little reason to agree to even a brief ceasefire. Its troops have made modest advances along the long front line in Ukraine's eastern Donbas region and ousted Ukrainian troops from a sliver of a Russian border territory that they had previously seized. Russia has also mounted increasingly deadly missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian civilian targets. Earlier, Witkoff took an early morning stroll in Moscow with Kirill Dmitriev, the Russian president's envoy for investment and economic cooperation, which was captured in footage aired by a Russian news agency. Dmitriev played a key role in three rounds of direct talks between delegations from Russia and Ukraine, as well as discussions between Russian and U.S. officials. The negotiations made no progress on ending the three-year war following Russia's invasion of its neighbor. Trump has recently flip-flopped to a much harsher stance on Russia after seeing Putin spurn his demands for concessions for months. But Trump has shown himself to be unwilling to take a firm stance of defending Ukraine and sticking to it, giving Putin an incentive to wait out any threats. The new deadline and threat to impose 'secondary sanctions' on nations that buy Russian energy, like India, China and Turkey, are particularly problematic because those economic powerhouses have no control over Russia's stance on Ukraine. They are unlikely to cut economic ties with Moscow in response to such U.S. demands, especially when Trump himself was cozying up to Putin just a few weeks ago. The White House announced it is tacking on a new 25% tariff on products imported from India, raising the total tax to 50%, which suggests it doesn't consider Putin has met the deadline.

Redfin found that home prices fell in 14 of the 50 largest US metros during the final week of July. The price dips are a result of higher mortgage rates, which have cooled buyer demand. With fewer buyers, sellers are offering more perks to those still in the market for a home. It's been a tough market for homebuyers in recent years, but things are finally looking up. Oakland, California, saw the largest year-over-year decline at 6.8%, followed by West Palm Beach, Jacksonville, Austin, and Houston at 4.9%, 3.1%, 2.9%, and 2.8%, respectively. Nationally, the median home price increased by 2% year-over-year in July — but it's still down from the 5% to 6% gains seen in late 2024 and early 2025. By year's end, Redfin economists expect a 1% annual decline in the national median price. "Home prices are starting to dip because high mortgage rates have pushed many buyers out of the market, weakening demand," Redfin chief economist Daryl Fairweather told Business Insider. After years of buyer demand outpacing housing supply, the dynamic has flipped in some cities. According to Redfin, many areas now have more homes for sale than buyers. As a result, properties are sitting on the market longer, and many sellers and homebuilders are finding it more difficult to close deals. Those who can still afford to buy are benefiting, as motivated sellers are cutting asking prices and, in many cases, offering incentives or concessions to help buyers reach the finish line. "With fewer buyers in the market, some sellers are more willing to negotiate on price and terms — but others are choosing to delist rather than sell for less. That dynamic is giving buyers a bit more leverage, but it's also keeping inventory tight," Fairweather said. An April report from Redfin shows that home sellers offered concessions in 44.4% of home sales in the first three months of 2025 — a near record high. Concessions can look like a home seller covering repair costs, helping a buyer with down payment or closing expenses, or giving them money to offset higher mortgage rates. Anna Lagos, a San Antonio real estate agent with Our Texas Real Estate, told Business Insider that buyers in her market definitely have more bargaining power. "It's become much harder for homeowners to sell their existing properties," Lagos said, adding that she's seen some sellers offer as much as $10,000 to buy down a buyer's mortgage rate. Lagos said that home builders are feeling the pressure, too. "I'm seeing a lot of price reductions," she said. "One of my clients needed to move right away. The homebuilder offered to start construction as soon as possible and cut the asking price by about $30,000 to $40,000."
