Mystery of the human toe found in a box at Dash Point State Park has been solved
According to the Public Health – Seattle & King County, the toe was found to have been medically amputated, and NOT related to a death, an investigation found.
There will be no further investigation by the King County Medical Examiner's Office.
Here's what happened:
While walking on Dash Point beach on Father's Day, a Tacoma man stumbled upon a gift-wrapped box with a human toe inside.
'I found what looked like a little Christmas package is a little square box wrapped in green cloth and yellow string,' Kevin Ewing said.
Ewing thought it was a prayer box or message in a bottle-type thing at first, but it ended being the unexpected.
'Sat there in shock for a few seconds and then realized this looks like you know, a severed human toe,' he recalled.
He says the toe was wrapped in white cloth next to a feather, grass, sage and tobacco.
'A lot of things are going through my head like - where is the rest of the body? Like, did this wash in from the tide, or the water? Did somebody leave this here intentionally to be found?'
Ewing says he took photos of the box and told a park ranger immediately.
He says he also found a dead, mutilated seagull not too far from the box. He's unsure if the two are related.

Two killed in horror plane crash
Two men have been killed after a light plane crashed into a paddock before catching on fire in Queensland's Toowoomba region. Early investigations indicate the aircraft crashed near Oakey Cooyar Rd at Devon Park, about two hours from Brisbane, shortly after 3pm on Sunday. The ATSB identified the aircraft as a twin turboprop Reims Cessna F406, and that officers were being deployed from Brisbane and Canberra. The investigators, who specialise in aircraft operations and maintenance, will conduct a range of 'evidence-gathering activities', including site and wreckage examination. 'Investigators will also seek to interview involved parties, and collect relevant recorded information including flight tracking data,' the ATSB said in a statement. 'As well as pilot and aircraft maintenance records, and weather information.' Anyone with footage of the aircraft at 'any phase of the flight' or following the crash were urged to contact the ATSB. A report will also be prepared for the information of the coroner.

Man who was assaulted near Oregon Convention Center MAX station dies from injuries
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The man who was on Thursday died from his injuries on Friday, Portland police announced. 'The Multnomah County District Attorney's office is actively involved in this investigation and will consider any appropriate criminal charges,' officials said. Officers responded to the Convention Center's TriMet MAX Station just before 6 a.m. on Thursday and say the area of NE Holladay Street between Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. and Second Avenue was blocked for several hours. When officers responded, they found a man with serious, life-threatening injuries. He was transported to the hospital, and his current condition is unknown. The suspect was identified as Jordan T. Christ, 30. He was booked in the Multnomah County Detention Center and charged with second-degree assault — though additional charges are expected. 'The investigation revealed that the assault was a punch to the victim's head and did not involve a weapon. Modesto man dies after 3-vehicle crash that shut down road for hours
A man died in a three-vehicle crash that closed down a road for several hours in Modesto on Saturday afternoon, police said. The Modesto Police Department said the crash happened around 2:20 p.m. on Sick Road at Standiford Avenue. Police said one driver was taken to a hospital, where he later died. The identification of the driver has not been released, but police said he was from Modesto. An investigation revealed the driver was heading south on Sisk Road when he crashed into a pole in the center median. The vehicle continued and struck another pole before crossing the median into the northbound lane, where the vehicle struck two vehicles, police said. All people remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation and no other injuries were reported. Officers said it appears to be a medical-related crash.
