After the driest spring on record, the rain finally returned to Gloucestershire.
But the grey skies didn't stop school pupils in Stroud taking the plunge.
Community fundraising, including a skydive, helped to raise the £60,000 needed to restore the pool at Leonard Stanley C of E Primary School, which was first built in the 1970s.
And the school children celebrated the pool's reopening by making a big splash!
There was also an historic new opening in Gloucester, and plenty of art on display in Cheltenham.
Historic: St Mary Magdalene Church in the Forest of Dean village of Hewelsfield is a Grade II-listed building dating back hundreds of years.
Discovery: Museum of Gloucester opened a new archaeology hub that "brings Gloucester's hidden history to life". The Discovery Centre, based in Eastgate Shopping Centre, will showcase artefacts from the museum's collection, many of which have never been seen by the public before.
Milestone: The Cheltenham Playhouse has announced it's reached an initial fundraising target of £50,000, offering hope for the future of the community arts venue. Bosses warned last month that there was "a high risk" the theatre would close because its finances are in a "critical state".
Fluffy newborns: Four penguin chicks have hatched at Birdland Park & Gardens in Bourton-on-the-Water. Birdland said this breeding season has been "especially significant" as the pairs - Pablo and Sunny, Broady and Kat, and Big Mac and Cookie - are all first time parents!
Artful: Cheltenham Open Studios has been taking place this week with 78 different exhibition venues displaying the work of local artists. Visitors have been able to meet the artists, learn about their practice and even have a go themselves.
Community purchase: A community group in Stroud had a £200,000 bid accepted to buy a meadow and woodland in the town. Rodborough Fields Preservation Group said it would set aside the land bordering the River Frome for recreational use.
Fancy owning a tram: Offers are being invited to give Cheltenham last surviving tram a new lease of life.
Tram 21 has been in storage for more than 30 years and Cheltenham Borough Council has offered it to anyone who is interested in doing something with it for the benefit of the community.
New heights: Gloucester Cathedral has reopened its iconic Tower, now complete with a brand new roof deck.
People can once again climb 269 steps up the tower to enjoy panoramic views of Gloucester, the Severn Valley and the Malvern Hills.
Sign of the times: Shops in Gloucester could soon be asked to improve their signage to reflect the city's history and heritage.
Gloucester City Council wants to make the city more attractive to residents, shoppers and tourists.

George And Mildred star Norman Eshley dies aged 80

George And Mildred star Norman Eshley has died at the age of 80, his agent said. The actor and writer, who had been living with cancer, died on August 2 at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital with his wife Rachel Eshley by his side, his agent Thomas Bowington told the PA news agency. Mr Bowington said: 'It is with great sadness that I have to announce the death of our client actor Norman Eshley. 'A warm, kind and grounded man with a great voice that I will miss not hearing over the phone again.' His wife Rachel said: 'Although our time together wasn't long enough I will be forever grateful for the wonderful times we shared. He was my husband and best friend and my heart will always be with him.' Eshley was educated at Bristol Grammar School and completed his training as an actor at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Born in Bristol on May 30 1945, Eshley began his career in Shakespearian plays, later performing in West End productions. He made his film debut in Orson Welles 1968 drama The Immortal Story and featured in TV shows including Canterbury Tales, an adaptation of Chaucer's famous stories, and Warship, which followed life in the Royal Navy aboard fictional ship HMS Hero. He became most known, however, for playing snobbish neighbour Jeffrey Fourmile in the popular ITV sitcom George And Mildred, starring opposite Brian Murphy and Yootha Joyce. The show was a spin-off of Man About The House, which he also appeared in as two different characters. In later years, he turned his hand to writing and co-authored a sequel to Charles Dickens classic Oliver Twist, called The Dreamtime Of The Artful Dodger, which re-imagined the life of the character after his transportation to Australia.

Harry Just Got His Chance to Confront William in Person After Reports His Brother ‘Absolutely Hates' Him With ‘Every Fiber of His Being'

Things have been getting better in the British royal family. Prince Harry and King Charles are reportedly on the road to reconciliation. King Charles' cancer is serious, but reportedly manageable. The divorce rumors surrounding Kate Middleton and Prince William, as well as Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle have pretty much died down. And yet, the relationship between Prince William and Prince Harry continues to draw attention, because it doesn't seem to be on the right path. And now, the two are set to finally meet face to face for the first time in years. The two are both set to be invited to the wedding of their eldest cousin, Peter Phillips, Hello! reports. Phillips announced recently that he is engaged to Harriet Sperling after one year of dating. More from StyleCaster Harry & Meghan's Ex-Staffer All But Confirmed Rumors They're Moving Back to the UK Amid Claims William Won't 'Welcome Them Back' Harry Just Responded to Claims He Left Andrew With a 'Bloody Nose' After 'Punches Were Thrown' Over Andrew's Backstabbing Comment Related: Here's what each royal inherited from Queen Elizabeth The couple announced the news with a statement that read: 'Mr Peter Phillips, the son of HRH The Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips, and Ms Harriet Sperling, daughter of the late Mr Rupert Sanders and Mrs Mary Sanders of Gloucestershire, have today confirmed their official engagement.' It went on: 'Both families were informed jointly of the announcement and were delighted with the wonderful news of their engagement. Their Majesties The King and Queen, The Prince and Princess of Wales, have been informed of the announcement. No date has been officially set for the wedding.' Phillips shares a close relationship with both his cousins, Prince William and Prince Harry. Hello!'s royal correspondent, Danielle Stacey, said his relationship with William, 'Peter has been viewed as a supportive older brother figure to Prince William, and the pair have held a close relationship since childhood.' She added, 'Peter previously said of his cousins that there was 'quite a gang of us' and they 'caused quite a bit of mayhem and chaos'.' Prince Harry recently skipped the wedding of Hugh Grosvenor, the Duke of Westminster, and Olivia Henson. The Duke is Prince Archie's godfather. He did attend the funeral of his uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes, but he did it without Meghan Markle. He also reportedly kept his distance from his brother, who was also at the funeral. But he has a close enough relationship with his cousin Peter that he would likely make the attempt to go to the wedding, even if security concerns keep him from attending with Meghan and their kids. And with reconciliation with King Charles in the cards, Harry might believe this is the time to talk to William. This all comes after The Daily Beast reported that, according to a friend of William, 'He absolutely f***ing hates' his brother. That same source also told the outlet that. 'William will never, ever forgive Harry for what he has done. Charles is the king; he can do what he likes. But make no mistake: William believes with every fiber of his being that giving Harry and Meghan back any royal imprimatur is a huge mistake.' Recent reports indicate King Charles and Prince Harry are on the way to fixing their relationship, with Prince Harry reportedly inviting his family to the next Invictus Games, which will be held in the UK in 2027. There are also reports that the King wants not only Prince Harry but Meghan Markle and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, involved in his funeral. But all of that doesn't seem to extend to Prince William, and now the brothers will have a chance to see each other and finally air out their grievances. That could be a really good thing, or a really bad one. Princess Anne's Son Peter Phillips Is Engaged to Harriet Sperling After a Year of Dating

Peter is the eldest grandchild of the late Queen Gist It must be royal engagement season—just one day after Princess Diana's niece Lady Eliza Spencer confirmed her engagement on July 31, Peter Phillips—the son of Princess Anne and eldest grandchild of Queen Elizabeth—announced his engagement on August 1. Peter is set to marry Harriet Sperling, an NHS nurse, though no wedding date has been set as of yet. The announcement comes four years after Peter's divorce from Autumn Kelly—with whom he shares two daughters—was finalized in one day after Princess Diana's niece Lady Eliza Spencer confirmed her engagement to longtime boyfriend Channing Millerd, Queen Elizabeth's eldest grandchild Peter Phillips—the son of Princess Anne—announced his engagement to Harriet Sperling on August 1. Peter and Harriet, an NHS nurse, have been dating for about a year. Peter was previously married to Autumn Kelly, whom he wed in 2008 and separated from in 2020. They finalized their divorce the next year and share two daughters, Savannah and Isla. Harriet, too, is a parent, and is mom to daughter Georgia. 'Mr. Peter Phillips, the son of HRH The Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips, and Ms. Harriet Sperling, daughter of the late Mr. Rupert Sanders and Mrs. Mary Sanders of Gloucestershire, have today confirmed their official engagement,' a statement issued to Hello! on Friday read. 'Both families were informed jointly of the announcement and were delighted with the wonderful news of their engagement,' it continued. 'Their Majesties The King and Queen, The Prince and Princess of Wales have been informed of the announcement.' The statement added that no wedding date has been set as of yet. Though three of Queen Elizabeth's four children went through a divorce, Peter is the first (and, heretofore, only) grandchild of the Queen to divorce. Six of the Queen's eight grandchildren are married, with the two children of Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh being significantly younger than their cousins. At the time of Peter's separation, a statement said (per People), 'Whilst this is a sad day for Peter and Autumn, they continue to put the well-being and upbringing of their wonderful daughters Savannah and Isla first and foremost. Both Peter and Autumn are pleased to have resolved matters amicably with the children firmly at the forefront of those thoughts and decisions.' It added, 'Peter and Autumn have requested privacy and consideration for their children as the family adapts to a new chapter in their lives.' Following his divorce, Peter dated Lindsay Wallace for three years, and after their split, Peter and Harriet debuted as a couple in May 2024 at the Badminton Horse Trials. Since then, Harriet has accompanied Peter to a number of events, often mingling with members of the royal family at occasions like Royal Ascot. In their engagement photo shared with Hello!, Harriet's ring steals the show as the bride-to-be wears a frilly white top and skirt. 'This is wonderful news for Peter and Harriet, but also the wider royal family,' Hello!'s royal editor Emily Nash said. 'Peter is close to the King and to his cousins, and Harriet seems to have been warmly welcomed into the fold.' 'The signs that this was serious have been there for some time, and seeing Harriet taking part in the royal procession at Royal Ascot this year convinced many royal watchers an engagement was on the cards,' Nash added. Royal photographer James Whatling agreed, telling the outlet, 'We were waiting for this news. You can't watch this couple for too long without noticing how close they are—they're so tactile and they're clearly so in love. It was only a matter of time.' According to Tobias Kormind, co-founder of 77 Diamonds, Harriet's ring 'appears to be a timeless trilogy design, likely showcasing a central oval or round diamond, flanked by trapeze-cut or triangular side stones.'
