BHOPAL: A ruling BJP leader's trader son was conned by a bunch of fraudsters, who while posing as sleuths of Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), allegedly extorted more than Rs 45 lakh from him over a period of eight long years. While the alleged racket operating from Vidisha district of central Madhya Pradesh was busted by cops from southeastern MP's Anuppur district police recently with the arrest of one of the accused, the victim 50-year-old Ashish Tamrakar, who is reportedly the son of a BJP leader Avdhesh Tamrakar in Kotma area of Anuppur district is yet to come out the long-drawn mental trauma. 'Despite being counselled thoroughly, he still believes that the tormentors will mentally harass him, demand more money and if the demands were not met, they would put him behind bars in some hawala business case,' a senior police officer from Anuppur district told the TNIE on Sunday. Back in 2017, Ashish Tamrakar, who is into the business of electronic goods, got in touch with some men claiming to be working for an investment/stock broking firm (operating from Bhopal and Indore). Air India plane crash probe: Captain RS Sandhu appointed domain expert
Veteran pilot and former Air India director of operations Captain RS Sandhu has been appointed as a domain expert by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) in the ongoing probe into the Ahmedabad plane crash, sources told PTI on Sunday. Sandhu, who was also a designated examiner for the Boeing 787-8 fleet at Air India, had taken delivery of the now-crashed 787-8 plane—VT-ANB—in 2013. Air India flight AI171, which crashed minutes after take-off on June 12, killed 260 people — 241 on board and 19 on the ground. 'AAIB has onboarded seasoned aviator RS Sandhu in the ongoing investigation of the Air India Boeing 787-8 plane crash in Ahmedabad last month,' one of the sources told PTI. Sandhu, who was with Air India for nearly 39 years in various capacities, is the founder of aviation consultancy firm Aviazione. He had also headed a team that worked on the integration of the Tata group airlines. The investigation of the plane crash has come under controversy after The Wall Street Journal reported that their source had heard the audio recording recovered from the plane, in which the junior pilot can be heard asking the senior pilot about switching off the fuel supply. Notably, the preliminary findings of the investigation have suggested that the plane crashed due to an issue with the fuel supply switch. Following the reports, pilots have raised concerns over the issue, and later Air India clarified that the fuel switches of all their Boeing Dreamliner aircraft—the same model involved in the Ahmedabad plane crash—are functioning properly. The aircraft manufacturer Boeing has also come under the radar of the controversy, and a 2024 report has resurfaced after the crash, in which a deceased whistleblower—a former Boeing employee—warned that the manufacturing facility of the Dreamliner 787 was plagued by 'shoddy work practices and poor oversight.' CPI(M) hits out at SNDP leader for remarks against minorities
Agency: PTI Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 20 (PTI) The ruling CPI(M) in Kerala urged people to remain vigilant against any attempts—by anyone—to 'undermine" the state's secular fabric. Without naming Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan, who had launched a scathing attack on minority communities for allegedly 'grabbing the opportunities meant for backward classes", a CPI(M) state secretariat statement said the Left Front government was committed to addressing the grievances of all sections of society. 'Social justice and secularism are the foundation of the government's policy," the statement added. Natesan's speeches—at Kottayam on Saturday and Kochi on Sunday—have drawn widespread criticism from various political parties. Speaking at a felicitation event in Kochi to mark his 30 years as SNDP general secretary, Natesan said he would continue to speak about social justice and 'the neglect of the backward Ezhava community", despite opposition from minority leaders. State Cooperation Minister V N Vasavan, who inaugurated the event, praised Natesan for his 'historic achievements" during his tenure. 'Only in a secular society can people of all faiths—and those with none—function democratically," it added. The LDF government's welfare programmes aim to address the challenges faced by the poorer sections across all communities, it further said. The Communist Party has drawn inspiration from Kerala's renaissance movements and has worked to ensure social justice, the statement added. The SNDP, founded by Sree Narayana Guru, upheld the principle that the essence of all religions is the same. 'The organisation should move forward in a manner that protects secularism. Anyone can raise the issues of a particular community, but not in a way that incites religious animosity," the statement stressed. Earlier in the day, Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan also strongly criticised Natesan's remarks, stating that any attempt to divide society must be opposed. Speaking in Kochi, Satheesan said Natesan's comments 'went against the very ideals upheld" by SNDP founder Sree Narayana Guru. 'Community leaders should avoid statements that create divisions among people," he claimed. Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) national general secretary P K Kunhalikutty also condemned Natesan's 'unwarranted" remarks against minorities. He urged the state government to examine Natesan's statements and take appropriate action.
