Alabama football 2025 season preview, predictions: LT Overton

USA Today18-07-2025
As we look ahead to the 2025 college football season, there are few players on the Alabama Crimson Tide defense who have a greater amount of hype surrounding their potential this fall than LT Overton.
Entering year two in Tuscaloosa, Overton bypassed the NFL draft this past spring in order to return to Alabama for the 2025 season, setting the stage for what many across the college football world believe could be a career-year for the former top recruit.
With this, Overton likely enters the season as a potential first round pick in the 2026 NFL draft, and could possibly cement that status with a strong campaign this fall.
Here is a look at everything you need to know about Alabama's LT Overton entering the 2025 season.
LT Overton player information
LT Overton career stats
Over his three-year collegiate career so far, Overton has compiled a combined 90 tackles, six TFL, three sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery during his time at both Alabama and Texas A&M. Transferring to Alabama prior to the 2024 season, Overton had a combined 48 tackles, three TFL, and a sack while at Texas A&M in 2022-23.
LT Overton 2024 stats
Overton's 2024 season at Alabama was his first in Tuscaloosa after transferring from Texas A&M, with the move to join the Crimson Tide immediately translating to the career-year. Last season, Overton appeared in 13 games where he compiled 42 tackles, three TFL, two sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.
LT Overton recruiting ranking
Coming out of high school, Overton was considered as the nation's No. 14 overall player in the 2022 class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings, as well as the No. 4 rated defensive lineman nationally. Rated as a five-star recruit, Overton was also considered the No. 3 player in the state of Georgia where he attended Milton High School.
Overton also came to Alabama as part of the Crimson Tide's 2024 transfer portal class where he was considered by 247Sports as the No. 30 overall player nationally that offseason. The defensive lineman, who committed to Alabama in Dec. 2023, was also rated a four-star transfer, as well as the No. 7 overall player at his position.
LT Overton 2025 season outlook
There are few names on the defensive side of the ball for Alabama this season who could more of an overall impact than Overton.
One of Alabama's returning leaders on defense, Overton enters the 2025 season cemented as the Crimson Tide's starter at "Bandit," which you could argue is certainly a loaded position group. Overton will also bring a significant amount of experience to that group, and should rank among Alabama's most productive players on the defensive line as a player who can help both rush the passer, as well as stop the run.
Overall, expect a career-year for Overton in 2025, and for the Alabama defensive lineman to receive All-SEC honors at seasons end.

Previewing the 2025 season for Texas A&M TE Theo Melin Öhrström with his player profile

As we gear up for the 2025 football season, Aggies Wire is breaking down every player on the Texas A&M roster. Throughout the preseason, each profile will highlight a player's background, their recruiting rankings upon graduating from high school, and their projected role under head coach Mike Elko. There was significant turnover at the tight end position, with several players either graduating or transferring out of Aggieland. The only returning player with meaningful game experience in the current system is Theo Melin Öhrström, otherwise known as 'Thor.' Coach Elko had to hit the portal to add experience and depth, creating competition at the position as Coach Klein's offense requires a variety of tight end types. Öhrström is entering his fourth season at A&M after spending most of his early career on special teams. In 2024, he played in all 13 games, recording 10 catches for 184 yards and two touchdowns. His breakout performance came against New Mexico State, where he hauled in five catches for 111 yards—making him the first Aggie tight end since 2018 to eclipse 100 receiving yards in a single game. Preseason Player Profile Hometown: Stockholm, Sweden Height: 6-6 Weight: 265 lbs. Class in 2025: Junior Recruiting Rankings (Class of 2022) National: No. 216 Position (TE): No. 6 Sweden: No. 1 The former four-star recruit was the top-rated player out of Sweden, known for his impressive size and athleticism. He drew interest from several Power Five programs, though, like many international prospects, the lack of top-tier competition was a concern. Adjusting to SEC-level play required development, especially in his in-line blocking skills. Depth Chart Outlook Depending on how offensive coordinator Collin Klein evolves the scheme, expect plenty of two-tight end sets featuring a pass-catcher and a traditional blocker. On passing downs, it'll likely be between transfer Amari Niblack and Öhrström, though Niblack holds a slight edge in explosiveness and experience. That said, anticipate a heavy rotation among all four tight ends until someone separates from the pack. Previewing the 2025 season for Texas A&M TE Amari Niblack with his player profile

As we gear up for the 2025 football season, Aggies Wire is breaking down every player on the Texas A&M roster. Throughout the preseason, each profile will highlight a player's background, recruiting rankings out of high school, and projected role under head coach Mike Elko. Amari Niblack is one of three tight ends brought in to bolster a depleted TE room following offseason departures, whether from expired eligibility or the transfer portal. That left Theo Melin Ohrstrom as the lone returning scholarship tight end. Niblack arrives with a veteran presence and elite athleticism, ideally suited for offensive coordinator Collin Klein's system. Although he hasn't fully lived up to early expectations, he has a prime opportunity to rewrite the narrative. After three seasons, two at Alabama and one at Texas, Niblack has logged 26 receptions for 375 yards and five touchdowns. Preseason Player Profile Hometown: St. Petersburg, Florida Height: 6-3 Weight: 235 lbs. Class in 2025: Senior (Redshirt) Recruiting Rankings (Class of 2023) National: No. 146 Position (TE): No. 8 Florida: No. 17 The former four-star prospect Niblack was heralded as a two-way athlete but ultimately projected as a dynamic, pass-catching tight end. He lined up at both TE and WR in high school and delivered a monster senior season: 60 catches, 939 yards, and 10 touchdowns across 13 games. Depth Chart Outlook The tight end position remains one of mystery. With three transfers joining Ohrstrom, each brings a unique skill set to the room. Niblack, widely considered the most athletic of the group, may have a leg up in the competition, especially if his blocking improves. If he takes that step, the starting job could be his to lose. QB Marcel Reed listed as most important player on Texas A&M's roster by ESPN

When Marcel Reed's number was called to step in and take over the Aggie offense, the Texas A&M signal-caller made a long-lasting impression on the Maroon and White faithful. After former A&M quarterback Connor Weigman suffered an injury, Reed took his place and instantly impressed with his ability to maneuver in the pocket with ease and his deep-throw accuracy. In his first contest against Florida on the road in Gainesville, Reed completed 17 passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for 83 yards and one score on the ground for a 33-20 victory over the Gators. Through the ups and downs of his freshman season, the Nashville, Tennessee, native flashed his potential against competitive conference foes. Entering his second year in Bryan-College Station, Texas, Reed is undoubtedly the most integral piece to the puzzle for head coach Mike Elko to lead the Aggies to the playoffs. That testament was doubled down by ESPN in a recent list of the most important players for each school ranked in the top 25 before the 2025 season begins. As one can imagine, Reed was named as the player who could impact Texas A&M's success the most this season by ESPN writer Bill Connelly. Reed was grouped with fellow SEC quarterbacks like LaNorris Sellers (South Carolina), DJ Lagway (Florida), John Mateer (Oklahoma) and Austin Simmons (Ole Miss). Here is what Connelly had to say about his ranking of the young gunslingers in the league in his recent list on ESPN: 'It was a jarring and repetitive theme in my SEC preview: 'If [insert quarterback here] is awesome, [insert midlevel contender here] becomes a serious contender for a CFP bid.' Granted, the paths for Florida and (especially) Oklahoma are trickier, and Lagway needs to be healthy before he can really threaten to upend this season. But any of these five QBs could lead playoff runs. Meanwhile, these five teams will play a combined 15 games against projected top-10 teams, per SP+, and 35 games against top-25 teams. If they don't end up in the CFP hunt, they'll have huge roles in determining who does.' According to Connelly, the list of most important to their respective team goes as follows: Sellers (11th), Lagway (12th), Mateer (13th), Reed (14th) and Simmons (15th). Those listed are signal-callers that he considers as young, inexperienced, or new quarterbacks with both spoiler and contender potential.
