Saudi Arabia topped MENA region in e-government services for third successive year in 2024
The index, published by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, measures the maturity of government services provided through electronic applications and portals.
Saudi Arabia ranked first in the 2024 index, outperforming 16 other countries and achieving a maturity rate of 96 percent in delivering digital government services, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Ahmed Alsuwaiyan, the governor of the Digital Government Authority, praised the achievement on Monday, saying it was the result of collaboration among government agencies, the use of technologies and artificial intelligence, and the introduction of digital products to deliver government services.
The Kingdom ranked fourth in the index in 2020 and second in 2021 before taking the top spot in 2022 and 2023. Alsuwaiyan noted that the progress was due to significant improvements in digital services across essential sectors, including health, education, and smart cities.
Saudi Arabia has made significant strides in the healthcare sector by offering citizens and residents digital prescriptions, appointment bookings, and telehealth services, while remote learning platforms and electronic university admissions have been established in the education sector.

Saudi health minister begins visit to Australia
SYDNEY: Saudi Minister of Health Fahad Al-Jalajel on Thursday began a visit to Australia that will include stops in Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney. A series of meetings is scheduled to take place to discuss ways of bilateral cooperation in health, innovation and health investment, tha Saudi Press Agency reported. The visit includes meetings with senior Australian officials to discuss bilateral cooperation in public health and healthcare digital transformation, explore investment opportunities, and expand partnerships between the health institutions of both countries. The trip includes visits to healthcare facilities and specialized research centers, where Al-Jalajel will meet leaders in the health and biology sectors to review advanced experiences and expertise exchange, and explore cooperation horizons in innovation, health technologies, medical coding and ambulatory services. The health minister will also meet with Saudi scholarship students in the healthcare field.

KSrelief extends support to 5 nations in need
RIYADH: The Saudi aid agency KSrelief is continuing to make a significant global impact by providing critical assistance to some of the world's most vulnerable communities. The agency has launched a voluntary medical project for adult cardiac surgery and catheterization in Yemen's Aden governorate, in cooperation with the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen. Running until July 27, the project is set to perform 65 catheterizations and 30 surgeries, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Monday. KSrelief in Somalia has distributed 130 shelter kits, 100 clothing kits, and 10 tents to 1,440 people in 240 families in Baki camp in the Awdal region. The Saudi aid agency in Sudan has distributed 800 food baskets to families returning from displacement in Al-Jazirah state, helping 5,036 people. In Afghanistan, 90 food baskets have been distributed at Omari camp near the Torkham border, helping 540 Afghan returnees from Pakistan. In addition, KSrelief in the Syrian Arab Republic continues to help families affected by fires in Latakia, and has distributed shelter kits to 1,500 families. Since its launch in May 2015, KSrelief has implemented 3,602 projects worth more than $8.1 billion across 108 countries, in partnership with more than 323 organizations.

Saudi Arabia to host 8th Global Health Exhibition in Riyadh in October
RIYADH: The eighth annual Global Health Exhibition will take place from Oct. 27 to 30 at the Riyadh Exhibition and Convention Center, the Ministry of Health said on Thursday. The aim of the event, the theme for which is 'Invest in Health,' is to help accelerate the transformation of the Kingdom's healthcare sector in line with the goals of the Vision 2030 plan for national development and diversification, the Saudi Press Agency reported, while strengthening Saudi Arabia's position as a global hub for health innovation and investment. The four-day exhibition will give health sector leaders, investors and innovators from around the world the chance to explore partnership and investment opportunities, and showcase the latest advances in healthcare technology, including developments in telemedicine, digital health and preventative care. Organizers hope this year's event will further boost momentum in the rapidly evolving Saudi health sector, building on the success of last year's exhibition that attracted more than 100,000 visitors from 80 countries, who signed deals worth more than SR50 billion ($13.3 billion). The event also reflects the Kingdom's growing influence on the global health stage, according to organizers. Recent Saudi initiatives such as the National Biotechnology Strategy and the hosting of high-profile international gatherings — including the Fourth Global High-Level Ministerial Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance in November 2024, and the upcoming 2nd annual CPHI Middle East pharmaceutical expo scheduled for December — highlight the nation's commitment to shaping the future of healthcare, they said. The exhibition aims to serve as a key platform for fostering collaborations and driving investment in technologies and initiatives that support healthier, more sustainable communities across the region and beyond, the organizers added.
