Karnataka's Raichur thermal plant conducts mock drill to check readiness
People were sensitised on the measures and precautions to be taken in case of an air attack on India. Volunteers were taught how to handle the seriously injured and casualties in case of air strikes. Bombs were also simulated using fireworks.
In the mock drill that lasted for 30 minutes, fire and emergency services personnel also demonstrated to the public how to respond to any kind of emergency.
People were also shown how to extinguish fire and how to rescue people and move them to safer places.
Later, Raichur Deputy Commissioner Nitish K explained that the main purpose of the mock drill was to show citizens how to protect themselves in the event of an attack on India by enemy countries.
'Everyone, including students and youths, together with the district administration, should be prepared for any kind of situation,' MLA Basanagouda Daddal said.

Bihar: ‘Cat Kumar' applies for residential certificate in Rohtas; FIR registered
After 'Dog Babu', 'Sonalika Tractor' and 'Donald Trump', yet another case of fake application has come to the fore in Bihar after the Rohtas district administration received a residential certificate request in the name of a cat. A photo of a cat was also attached to the application, along with a phone number and an email address. Following the directives of Rohtas DM Udita Singh, Nasriganj revenue officer (RO) Kaushal Patel has filed an FIR under sections 132/61(b)/318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Nasriganj police station against unknown persons, and an investigation has been launched. Residents in the state are allowed to file online applications under the Bihar Right To Public Service (RTPS) Act, and each submitted application is assessed and issued by the official concerned after due verification. According to the FIR, the RTPS counter received an online application on July 27 with the mobile and email ID of the person who applied under the name. 'The act obstructed official work and appeared to be a conspiracy to tarnish the image of the government and public services. The name of the applicant, along with the listed father's and mother's names, are clearly false and intended as a mockery. The individual has attempted to ridicule the functioning of the government system by misusing the online platform, submitting fake details and a cat's photo,' the FIR stated. This bizarre application sparked a lot of laughter on social media, but a few users criticised it for wasting the time of officials. Another application was submitted in Samastipur district recently under the name of US President Donald Trump; the request was made through the government portal from the Mohiuddinnagar block. The document included a photo of Trump and listed a local address in Hasanpur village. The fake applications prompted an investigation into the matter and resulted in two officials from Patna, who were overseeing the process, facing departmental action. The government has taken serious note of these developments, and is planning to tighten RTPS to scan every application more carefully.

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar releases ₹1,247 crore under increased pension scheme
Patna: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday released ₹1,247.34 crore via direct benefit transfer (DBT) for over 1.12 crore social security pension beneficiaries, following his June 25 announcement of raising the monthly pension for the elderly, disabled, and widows from ₹400 to ₹1,100. Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar released ₹ 1,247.34 crore for six social security schemes on Saturday (PTI) The first instalment was disbursed on July 11, and the number of beneficiaries increased to 112 lakh from 111 lakh last month. 'I am happy that the number of beneficiaries was 1.11 crore last month and it has increased to 1.12 crore this month. This is good. Nobody should be left out of the benefits,' the CM said while addressing a gathering in Patna. The government released ₹1,247.34 crore for six social security schemes on Saturday, including Mukhyamantri Vridhjan Pension Yojana, Indira Gandhi Old Age Pension, Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension, Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension, Laxmi Bai Social Security Pension, and Bihar State Disability Pension. Social welfare department secretary Bandana Preyashi said, 'In the coming days, all the six pension schemes would be linked to the Right to Public Service (RTPS) at the panchayat level for the convenience of the beneficiaries, and they would not have to go to the block offices.' The government also launched a toll-free number — 18003456262 — to help pension holders seek information or lodge complaints, if any. Both Deputy CMs Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, social welfare minister Madan Sahni, and senior officials were present on the occasion. In view of the increase in the number of beneficiaries, the social welfare department received an additional ₹10,169 crore in the first supplementary budget for 2025–26, passed during the monsoon session. This has taken the department's overall budget to ₹18,837 crore. The first supplementary budget of ₹57,946 crore—the largest—was passed following the ₹3,16,989.5-crore Budget approved on March 3 for 2025–26, in response to increased requirements. Meanwhile, opposition parties have also promised higher pensions in the poll-bound state. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has assured ₹1,500 per month pension, besides ₹2,500 under its proposed Mai-Bahin Maan Yojana if voted to power. Jan Suraj Party leader Prashant Kishor has also promised a ₹2,000 pension should his party form the government. The Congress party has rolled out the Mai Bahin Maan Yojana, under which women in Bihar would receive ₹2,500 in their bank accounts once the Grand Alliance government is formed. With the Bihar election around the corner, experts say this could be a game-changer. 'This is a big social welfare initiative that will have a huge impact, as it directly affects the 1.12 crore poor families irrespective of caste and creed. Old age pension beneficiaries are around 55 lakh. Perhaps, that explains why all the political parties promised it, but there is always a difference between delivery and assurance,' social analyst Nawal Kishor Choudhary said. Former director of AN Sinha Institute of Social Sciences, D.M. Diwakar, said that in the era of competitive populism—especially during election time—the usually forgotten common masses become the main beneficiaries, as all political parties look toward them, albeit for a short time. 'No government gives anything to anyone unless it suits its interests and there are dangers attached to not doing it. Pressure does work, and more so during election time. Whichever way it comes, if it benefits the common people, it is good,' he added.

After ‘Dog Babu' embarrassment, ‘Donald Trump' denied residency certificate in Bihar, FIR registered
In Bihar's Samastipur district, an application was submitted through the government's RTPS (Right to Public Services) portal seeking a residential certificate in the name of 'Donald John Trump.' The application, dated July 29, listed the applicant's father as 'Frederick Christ Trump,' with the residence address mentioned as Hasanpur, Ward 13, Bakarpur Post, Mohiuddin Nagar Block, Samastipur. The supporting documents included a photograph of US President Trump and a forged Aadhaar card, which immediately raised suspicion upon review, officials said. Upon closer inspection, the Revenue Officer of Mohiuddin Nagar discovered several irregularities, including tampered photo IDs, barcode distortions, and altered personal details, prompting her to reject the application outright on August 4. The bizarre incident surfaced as the latest in a string of dubious requests. Since the beginning of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar, there has been a noticeable surge in applications for residential certificates. However, these certificates — a mandatory document required by the Election Commission for voter card verification — have also been attracting illegal applications, officials said. The Samastipur district administration labelled the application as part of a more extensive attempt to undermine the integrity of Bihar's digital governance system and mislead the ongoing electoral roll revision process. Authorities said the use of fraudulent documents, including a fabricated Aadhaar card, appeared to be a clear case of cyber fraud. Misuse of the RTPS system through fictitious applicants and forged documents has become increasingly frequent, they say, with officials now systematically rejecting such applications and registering formal FIRs. An FIR has been lodged at the Samastipur Cyber Police Station under Sections 318(4) and 336(4) of the BNS (pertaining to forgery and use of forged documents), and Sections 66(c) and 66(d) of the Information Technology Act, 2000 (related to identity theft and online fraud), for further investigation. Last month, a similar application was submitted under the name 'Dog Babu' at the Masaurhi Circle Office in Patna. The case went viral after it was revealed that a residence certificate application had been filed using an image of a dog. A full-scale investigation led to the arrest of a staff member of the Circle Office for allegedly submitting the fake application and sharing it online. Other districts have also reported unusual applications in the names of animals and vehicles. Shortly after the Dog Babu case, another application was submitted in Nawada in the name of 'Dogesh Babu,' with 'Dogesh ke papa' and 'Dogesh ki mummy' listed as parents. A probe was ordered in that case as well. Authorities have urged the public to submit genuine and valid documents when applying for public services and warned that 'submitting false information, whether as a joke or with malicious intent, could lead to severe legal consequences, including criminal prosecution.'
