"I would like to draw your attention to the extremely worrying and dilapidated condition of the realignment portion of Ganesh Ghat located on Indore-Khalghat section of Agra-Mumbai National Highway (NH-3) in Madhya Pradesh," Patwari wrote in a letter.
"The construction work of this section was completed in Nov 2024 at a cost of Rs 109 crore. Its length is 8.8 km and width is 10.3 meters and now it has been completely damaged after just 6 inches of rain.
Hundreds of deep potholes have formed on it, many of which are so big that an entire car can fit into it," he wrote.
Patwari said it was unfortunate that a reputed institution like the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is contending that "potholes will definitely be there after the first rain".
"This argument looks even more ridiculous when, after a deadly traffic jam in Indore some time back, NHAI had told in a court, why do people even leave their homes? This shows what their priority is regarding the safety and convenience of the people," Patwari argued.
He further said bus and truck drivers travelling on this dilapidated section of Ganesh Ghat have reported that due to the potholes, the vehicles ahead have to suddenly apply brakes, which poses a serious risk of accidents.
"At some places, even the patchwork material has completely disintegrated, which has further increased the risk of two-wheeler riders slipping. It is necessary to mention that there is one-way traffic of 25,000 to 30,000 vehicles on this new alignment every day, and due to these potholes, vehicles are taking an additional 30 to 45 minutes to cross this 8.8 km section," the Congress leader said.

"The construction company has to maintain the road for five years, but the quality of the patchwork done under maintenance is also under question. This clearly appears to be a major case of corruption where crores of public money have been wasted on poor quality construction," he said.
Patwari asked for an immediate high-level enquiry into the corruption in this stretch of National Highway and initiation of strict action against the culprits.
He also asked the Union minister to ensure immediate and quality repairs so that serious accidents can be prevented and inconvenience to lakhs of commuters is eliminated.

9 Golden Temple threats in 6 days, CM says guilty persons behind bars soon
1 2 3 Amritsar/Jalandhar: Two more threats of an attack on the Golden Temple were emailed to the SGPC on Saturday, taking the total number of such threats to the shrine to nine in just six days. With concerns over security at the Golden Temple rising, Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann said in Jalandhar that police were tracing people behind the emails and some IP addresses had been identified. "Soon, guilty persons will be behind bars," he added. The CM's statement came on a day Akal Takht former jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh, who now serves as the shrine's head granthi, objected to the demand made by Congress MP Gurjit Singh Aujla for deploying central security forces at the sacred site. He said the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) was capable of ensuring the shrine's internal security and emphasised the govt's role should be limited to preventing disturbances outside the temple complex. "It is both surprising and unfortunate to learn that Gurjit Singh Aujla, a Sikh MP from Amritsar, wrote to the Union home minister requesting the deployment of central forces at the Golden Temple. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo Such a suggestion is deeply regrettable, especially from Aujla, who represents the Congress, whose history with the Golden Temple is well known, from the 1984 military attack to the destruction of the Akal Takht and damage to other gurdwaras," said Giani Raghbir. He advised Aujla to refrain from making such a statement. On the issue of threat emails, Giani Raghbir said the situation appeared to be part of a larger conspiracy, especially since the emails continued even after the arrest of a software engineer in connection with the case. "These emails raise serious concerns about who, whether an individual, group, or agency, might be targeting the Golden Temple and attempting to create fear among the sangat (devotees)," he said. He urged the govt to conduct a thorough investigation, intensify the interrogation of those already detained, identify the masterminds behind the threats, and present them before the sangat with exemplary punishment to restore public confidence. Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan, too, visited the sacred shrine during the day. "One suspect has already been arrested, and we are confident that others involved will be brought to justice," he said, while speaking to media. He said Punjab Police were working day and night to ensure security outside the Darbar Sahib complex, in full accordance with maryada (Sikh code of religious conduct). "Have faith in the Guru's house—our agencies are actively working to apprehend the culprits, and they will be caught very soon," he added. Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring slammed the continuous threats. "It is both strange and concerning that there has been no breakthrough," he said. New threats despite arrest The two fresh emails threatening an attack on the Golden Temple come despite the detention of Shubham Dubey, a software engineer from Faridabad, whose involvement remains under investigation. SGPC chief secretary Kulwant Singh Mannan said the emails appeared to be originating from different sources, raising concerns about the nature and coordination of the threats.

Situation of many schools in state is deplorable: Satheesan
Kochi: Opposition leader VD Satheesan hit out at the govt on Saturday saying the situation of many schools across the state was deplorable. The condition of Thevalakkara school is particularly poor, according to the child rights commission, he said at a news conference in Kochi. Everyone is responsible for this condition, he said. "Govt needs to take the initiative to improve the poor state of schools. That's why opposition sent a letter to govt. An audit was initiated to check the safety of all schools in Paravur constituency. A questionnaire with 30 questions was prepared for this purpose," Satheesan said. "The audit will cover the safety of buildings and boundary walls, trees, kitchen hygiene and measures to prevent food poisoning. After receiving the audit report, various agencies, including govt, will be tasked with implementing necessary actions. Such tragic incidents should not happen again," he added. "It is not correct for a minister to say that the child should not have climbed up, which was the cause of the accident. Govt must take steps to prevent such incidents in future," he said. "Departments should not be blaming each other as everyone has the responsibility. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Govt's decision to resolve the strike at Kerala University is not being criticised. Opposition was the first to demand that the issues be resolved," Satheesan said. "It is the children who are caught in the conflict between govt and governor. Instead of discussing and resolving minor issues, a situation has been created where no one can enter universities in Kerala," Satheesan alleged. "If the protest was against the governor, why were universities shut down and staff and students beaten?" he asked. Satheesan expressed confidence of UDF coming back to power with over 100 seats. He said Rs 742 crores collected by govt for the poor in Wayanad was not being used. "Despite receiving such a large amount, no houses were built for the poor in Wayanad, no rent was provided, no assistance for the treatment of those with serious illnesses and no help for children's education was given," he alleged. Amid Trump claims, V-P Jagdeep Dhankhar says no power can dictate to India
Amid repeated claims from US President Donald Trump that he had brokered the ceasefire between India and Pakistan in May, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar Saturday said there was no power in the world that could dictate to India on how to handle its affairs. Addressing a gathering of the 2024 batch of officers from the Indian Defence Estates Service at V-P Enclave, Dhankhar said: 'Don't be guided by narratives outside. All decisions in this country, a sovereign nation, are taken by its leadership. There is no power on the planet to dictate India how to handle its affairs. We do live in a nation and nations that are a comity. We work in togetherness, we work in tandem. We have mutual respect, diplomatic dialogues. But at the end of the day, we are sovereign, we take our own decisions.' Dhankar did not name Trump but his statement comes a day after the US president reiterated the ceasefire claim and said that five jets had been shot down during the hostilities between the two countries. On Saturday, the Congress demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi make a statement in Parliament clarifying the issue. Taking an apparent swipe at the Opposition in this context, the V-P said: 'Is it required to play every bad ball? Is it required to have wrestling sessions as to who said what? One who scores good runs on the cricket pitch always leaves bad balls. They are tempting, but not attempted. And those who attempt, you have safe gloves of the wicket keeper and someone in the gully.' Dhankar said there would be challenging times that could create divisions, and drew a contrast between Israel and Palestine, and Russia and Ukraine, on one side and Operation Sindoor, India's response to the Pahalgam terror attack in April, on the other. 'For example, we have seen global conflagrations — two of them in particular, you know them. These have become open-ended. Look at the devastation of property, human lives and their misery. And look at our calibration. We taught a lesson — taught it well. We chose Bahawalpur and Muridke, and then brought it to a temporary conclusion. 'Operation Sindoor' is not over, it continues. Some people ask the question — why was it stopped? We are a nation that believes in peace, non-violence, a land of Buddha, Mahavira, and Gandhi. We do not wish to kill even living beings — how can we target human beings? The idea was to generate sanity, to generate a sense of humanity in the others,' he said.
